Stairs and carpets leading to rooms needs updating/sanding/painting.

Many ants found in the bathroom, very poor wi-fi connection

Great pool! Short (board)walk to beautiful beach. Dog friendly. Black-tailed deer ambling thru property.

The room was clean and the beds were comfortable . However, the accommodation overall was disappointing. The block we were put into was quite far away from the resort centre overlooking a builder's merchants with the grounds, car park and accommodation block open to the public. We felt insecure whilst we were there. This was exacerbated by the fact the safe in the room did not work and despite promises by the management was not fixed for us. No phone or tea making facility. The accommodation is clean and comfortable but basic and very much in in need of modernisation.

Amazing space for tranquility combined with opportunity to walk on dunes/beach. Near town but feels far from everyday stresses of the world. The historic buildings echo a time past. Lodge offers space to mingle with others but seclusion and nature only a few steps away. Staff friendly, helpful, and seemed to enjoy their work. Room rates reasonable. I’ll be back😊 Downside was high cost of meals.

I like this hotel for it location and ammentities. Lots to do with using a car.

Great location and staff! It is my "Refuge By The Sea" as the name Asilomar stands for....

This is a great place to stay if you keep a few things in mind. 1.This is a conference center and a CA state park. Conditions are more primitive, with dated furnishings and a bit of a walk to your room door. 2.Yes, it is more expensive than one would expect, but this is CA -everything is expensive. Realize where you are! This is one of the most beautiful, unspoiled stretches of beach in the world!! The Inn at Spanish Bay is just down the coast, and their starting charge was almost 5 times what I spent for my night here. 3. You may be tempted to rush out and do the tourist things -Monterey Bay Aquarium, the art galleries in Carmel, but take the time to enjoy where you are. Walk around the complex and enjoy the unique architecture. Walk on the boardwalk and look at the flowers. Walk on the beach and let the peace fill you soul.

While the proximity to the beach is nice, we were on the first floor and there were constantly other guests strolling the grounds and could see right into our room. Our room also didn’t have a TV or a coffee maker and microwave.

Nice and walking distance to the beach. Would stay here again.

Interesting property nice surroundings but not exactly quality

The Cypress rooms need renovated. Dark and dingy rooms with hard mattresses. The hotel and conference center could not maintain a comfortable temperature for the guest. The temperature was 30 degrees and guest sat through the conference in winter coats and hats. Very uncomfortable! Price was $190/night.

Facilities built originally in the 20's and designed by Julia Morgan, one of the first female architects in San Francisco. The design and materials are beautiful...mostly old redwood. We checked in at the Great Room, a massive room with a large fireplace, cafe, comfortable couches and chairs which is open all night. Went to the Aquarium one day, 17 mile drive, beaches are close, lots of restaurants. There is no tv in the room but wifi was strong; rooms felt spacious. Each room had a private, outside balcony on which to eat. The facility had a nice pool in addition to the beaches being within walking distance; the grounds had a fire pit for gathering around at night. This is a conference center as well so you'll see various groups gathering.

the room was a little disappointing - we had to stand on the sofa to see anything outside. the other window was on a busyish sidewalk - I'll try another place next time. The location and the beach is fantastic.

When a hotel has rock hard beds (and I love a firm bed ), no AC, no TV, no ph0ne, what could possibly go wrong? Won't go back won't recommend.

Location is wonderful, and the grounds and buildings are gorgeous. There's a sense of peace at Asilomar, with the ocean right beside you, and the beautiful cypresses overhead. Everyone staying there always seems friendly and interesting, and the staff is lovely. Be aware the rooms are NOT luxury hotel rooms. They're more like a cross between hotel rooms and bunks at a summer camp. And it's meant to be that way. No TVs, no landline phones (though the free Wifi is good!!). There's a sense of simplicity and minimalism and calm that's good for the spirit. And some rooms, like the small doubles on the north end of the grounds, have amazing, windswept ocean views. The large common spaces are really lovely. Go hang out by the fireside or play pool or listen to a guest play the piano. Walk along the beach. And the breakfast in the big common room is tasty, plentiful, and rather elegant, and you can have fun conversations at the big round tables with guests from all around the world. Plus it's a quick drive from Asilomar to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, or whale watching cruises. Great place to come for a conference or for a vacation with extended family...they have rooms and smaller buildings that will accommodate quite a crew. I always feel better about life after spending some time at Asilomar.
