La Playa is a unique combination that's hard to find. It has a pool, first of all, which is hard to find right in the town of Carmel. It's very close to the beach. And close to shops and restaurants in Carmel (but a few blocks away which makes it more quiet and spacious). All in all it's a very unique combination. The breakfast each day is fantastic- great freshly made waffles and omelets, and a beautiful view with a little bit of an ocean view. All in all a really special place.
This hotel lost its glory some time ago. Although the rooms are very clean, its all out dated. Champagne breakfast? O well, not that great. There is no restaurant but they have bar snacks. Bar area was not clean and the service was very poor and unfriendly. The service at the desk was great and gives you all the information you need. The pool is ok and the garden is small, which has open access to the back street. One night stay is fine.
The hotel was fantastic. My wife and I enjoyed a quick weekend away from the kids. The hotel is close to downtown and to the beach. The room was clean and nice. The included breakfast buffet was fantastic and there is a great view of the beach from the eating area. The hotel has great character and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
The overall atmospheres was charming but the room was plain, small and very overrated. I would not pay the extra for the "ocean view." Extra tourist fee at hotel. I found it overpriced n for what you got.
Absolutely amazing historic mansion that has been converted into a hotel, it feels like old Hollywood and reminds me of Palm Springs charm. I literally felt like I was a guest in a private mansion, staff was very friendly and nice, the property is beautiful and I slept solid. The room was all white and had windows that open with shutters. We had a room by the pool which was a suite with sleeper sofa, sitting area, and extra large bathroom. ( there's only 3 rooms by pool) I love history and found this place so very charming just a short walk to Carmel beach and can hear the ocean out back window. Yes the parking is off street but didn't mind. We don't do valet, (don't like someone else driving our $80,000 car.) The breakfast was outstanding as well, only thing is the only non dairy milk was soy and I would like to see almond milk available. Just a tiny request, loved the stay though! Will recommend!
We loved La Playa, it was the best hotel we stayed in on our two week trip to California. It was very special for us as we got engaged there and would love to go back. The location is great, easy walking distance to both the beach and centre of town. Our room was lovely and bright with a great sea view, the bathroom was quite small as others have noted but room enough and had some lovely toiletries. The bed was really comfortable too. The little extras really added a nice touch, such as milk and cookies in the evening - those cookies are divine! And a champagne breakfast! All the staff were friendly and helpful. Sean, the barman, gets a special mention - he made me an excellent cocktail.
A beautiful facility two blocks from the most precious, gorgeous beach on the planet. Also, is an easy walk to Carmel town. The hotel itself is a mix of good and bad elements. Pro: great staff, lovely, quaint grounds, superb breakfast, wonderful experience of Carmel oceanscape. Con: silly, toylike bathrooms (smaller than any cruiseship accomadations), The hotel bar is severely understaffed and, of all things, closes at 10 PM on Friday and Saturday nights, overpriced, but what hotel in Carmel isn’t. Another comment about the hotel: this hotel allows bookings with a set of notorious, slime ball third-party operators. We booked with CancelOn months ago. Throughout the entire website purchase of the reservation, it was reassuring that the reservation could be canceled in an appropriate amount of time before. The reservation came back after the credit card was processed with non-transferable, and non-refundable. And we didn’t even get a super rate. I have since learned that this third-party broker is well known as cheating it’s customers by simple non-response. Why this quality Hotel La Playa Carmel would associate itself with these scumbags is in explicable.
Wow, we've stayed in many Carmel/Monterey resorts but the Playa Carmel tops them all!, the view, the breakfast, the cookies and milk and the sangria were more The staff, view, breakfast and other amenities were amazing. We got so much more for our money than just a place to stay.
Every moment was fabulous - however - we wish they had pet friendly rooms so we could bring our purrrrrrfect gentle kitty-boy with us to celebrate our upcoming 25th anniversary ! Now back to our stays at the La Playa: incredible grounds, rooms are lovely with views to die for, their food is incredible, cozy bar with stiff yummy drinks lol, staff ever pleasing and professional, the swimming pool is huge by Carmel standards and heated year round, lovely guests, we do miss the wrought iron gazebo as we were married in it. We would love to come back but our vacation stays are not complete without our fury friend.... Ah but cherished memories abound.
Carmel is a very quaint place and the hotel sits on the corner of a residential area. The breakfast has a very good choice with an omelette chief on hand. The room was fairly small but the building dates back to 1910 and has its own charm.Gardens are well kept and the staff were all very helpful.Great place to stay and 5 mine walk to main town with lots of restaurants and shops.
