Shaw Park Beach Hotel All Inclusive3.0 out of 5.0

Food was bland but some dishes were pretty good. Needs repair but if you report an issue, they are on it withing like 10 mins or less...literally. Staff is genuine, fun, efficient and helpful. It is not a high end all inclusive but very good value for money.
My husband and I visited the hotel for a short day trip. We had lunch before departing on a boat to climb the falls. Although, we didn't stay over night, we were still amazed that people actually booked this place. The lunch in my opinion was not good at all (maybe to others it was good but not to us). The beach was nasty. It was brown. I'm amazed that there were some comments that referenced a nice beach. I don't understand what they saw that I didn't. The beach was disgusting. In addition, the buildings look run down. Also, the bathrooms did not have running water they day we were there. They were placing gallons of water on the sink so you could wash our hands. Toilets were also not flushing. It was gross. Running water seems to be an issue based on the reviews. I hate writing horrible reviews but this place is in need of a complete makeover. I would not book or recommend this place to anyone.
The Shaw Park Beach Hotel & Spa is a small, personable all inclusive resort a short hop outside the tourist hub of Ocho Rios, Jamaica. This is most definitely a budget hotel and this is manifested in the amenities. For my room, opening the patio doors was a workout in itself. The extractor fan in the bathroom does not work and the bathroom door is peeling as a result of the build up of condensation and yes, I had hot water for the first night of my stay but none thereafter (4 days). Other than that, the room was an acceptable place to lay ones head. From what I could surmise, this hotel seems to thrive on the throughput of day trippers and overnight guests. Long term guests seem to be at a premium. As for the entertainment there is nothing to write home about. There is a club and my one visit to the same comprised two quests on the dance floor. There was some live entertainment; a visiting karaoke impresario on two nights of my stay. All in all, the staff was pleasant as was my stay at the hotel. Yes, the amenities could be improved and the shortage of guests lessened a certain vitality that could be achieved. One strong recommendation would be an improvement in WiFi coverage. This can only be accessed in the lobby of the hotel and even then the signal was so weak one mightn't have bothered. I will stay at the Shaw Park Beach Hotel & Spa again and I would recommend it to family and friends with the caveats as referenced above.
Checked in 6/22/17 for three nights but had to check out the next morning. I was reimbursed because our complaints were obviously true and too numerous. My room was on second floor and friends were on the ground floor. The entire place including the staff, the rooms and decor are old and depressing looking. The bathrooms are too small with nowhere to hang or place anything like toiletries and no ventilation. The place was built in 1962 and appears to have not undergone any remodeling/upgrading. The food buffet is outdoors steps away from their very un-appealing beach; despite the scenery, dinner was miserable, food and music was horrible and several cats were constantly under the tables trying to get food and the staff seemed to not care. Rain started very early in the morning, it rained heavily as it had been the days before so it was unbelievable when they did not have the sense to move the breakfast buffet inside. We got soaked getting breakfast and thats when I went to the front desk to let them see me soaked and that I was not staying there another minute. Most of their clients come from employers in Kingston whose employees have to be on that side of the Island so they are not paying and therefore were not complaining. There was a large group of them who just seemed accustomed to this treatment although some did speak up agreeing with me. My party seemed to be the only foreigners. We are Jamaicans living abroad, by the way. We in Jamaica often staying in Negril and other areas of the Island so we are by no means foreigners. The first evening, I was at the bar and observed the bartender washing the drink glasses without running water, dipping them in a soapy pan and into another pan to rinse but that water was also soapy....I asked for a plastic cup for my drink. This place should not be in business!!! Any good review is a LIE!!!! Dont listen to them.
CLOSE IT DOWN, DO NOT GO, TELL YOUR FRIENDS NOT TO GO, THE PLACE IS A DISGRACE, RUN ON A SHOESTRING AND IN A STATE OF DELAPIDATION most of the week only 4 to 6 guests! staff did the best they could, friendly & helpful but had nothing to work with! Most days a skeleton staff of 1 or 2, hence slow service as they tried to take orders of food and run back and forth to the kitchen then take bar orders to do the same. Quoted meal times not adhered to, usually a wait of 45 minutes or longer, often menu items not available and no buffet style dining. Service very slow and portions very small. Lack of fruit and vegetables, not even a banana or orange & they both grow in abundance on the island. Desserts terrible,I paid a taxi to go off site to buy ice cream for the 6 guests! Zero entertainment any day or night. Bar drinks OK but all very cheapest brands, NO Appletons or Wray&Nephew rums, both being Jamaicas famous brands and cheap! Small sandy strip of beach but little effort made to rake seaweed each morning. Plenty of loungers as there were no guests...sensible! One good point was linen and towels lovely and white and changed daily. Bathroom extractors didnt work in any rooms. No mosquito mesh on doors to balcony so leaving door open guaranteed a plague of the biting pests. LOTS of mossies around the outdoor dining area, legs and feet bitten mercilessly. The inside dining area was not available as " not enough guests".Place needs spraying. NO entertainment any day or night and just the one CD played steel band all day every day ...apparently the owner doesn't like reggae music,(OR GUESTS!)..he just likes steel bands. I holiday in JA every year and this was my worst experience..2 of the guests had never been before and said they'd never go back..I had to tell them it was just Shaw Park, everywhere else was great. I advised Mchael the manager that I would be very honest on Trip Adviser and it would be a damning review.
I stayed at your hotel for 4 days,3 of those days there was no hot water, the management did not warn us until we were naked in the shower we find out,Your hotel needs upgrading also your menu needs updating. One thing I can say the workers are very nice and polite.
Loved the food, people and the view, this place is a place of solitude! This is the place if you want to feel safe and relaxed in Jamaica! One of the best beaches in the world, water was crystal clear and the sand was fine and welcoming. I went by myself and enjoyed every minute of it.
My fiance and I visited Shaw Park for a week and had the most relaxing trip imaginable. The food and drinks were excellent, we enjoyed eating authentic Jamaican cuisine and the bartenders were great and making whatever drink we requested (but our favourite was definitely the pina coladas!). Staff overall was also A+. In terms of accommodations, our room walked right out on to the beach and we could even hear the waves crashing as we fell asleep at night. My fiance celebrated his birthday there and the staff went above and beyond to make it a special day for him, especially at dinner time with our own specially decorated table, birthday cake and card. This is a very quiet resort with little entertainment, but some lovely steel pan music at dinner time played by a super friendly musician. Our only word of caution is that this resort is truly for relaxation purposes; the place was very quiet and there wasn't a lot to do (i.e. not great for young kids or people looking to party). It needed a little sprucing up in terms of some small repairs and re-painting, but the beach was beautiful, the music was great, the food and drinks were awesome. If you want a super relaxing, private vacation on the beach with phenomenal service, this is the place! Thanks to all the staff for providing such a wonderful experience.
My husband and I read negative reviews before booking but couldn't resist the deal. We also read several positive reviews so we thought maybe some people had high expectations. We loved our room, the staff, the food, and the spa. We felt like VIPs until the night that we were informed our water was being shut off but would be fixed Asap. The next morning we went to breakfast wondering how they managed to prepare food without water. Our servers had no idea there was no water and other patrons were showing up looking as fresh as daisies. When we went to the front desk we were told we could take showers in another room. We had to get our toiletries from our room with the toilet full of urine and walk across the lobby to another room. That room however, had no hot water. We went back to the front desk but the front desk staff had us wait until she confirmed there was no hot water then mad a phone call. She then walked us to a suite and checked the water. She let us know to make sure we returned the key to the front desk when we were done with our showers. When we left to visit my parents at 11:30 a.m. there was still no water in our room. No one offered to compensate us for staying in a room with no water from 9:00 p.m. on Saturday to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. I wanted to give a great review but instead we had to hear my parents say they told us so. They stayed at another resort.
My family and I (9 people aged 4-71) just came back from the most wonderful week at this hotel. We have been to many other resorts and this is the only hotel where our patio was on the beach. We sat outside in the morning looking at the waves crashing twenty feet away!! This is a 3 star hotel which creates the true Jamaican experience. The people are wonderful; so warm, friendly, kind and helpful. The food is outstanding. Every meal was a delight. There is real authentic Jamaican food plus international dishes as well. You can get a true Jamaican plantation breakfast every day - fish, calaloo, yam, dumplings, as well as muffins, pancakes, French toast, bacon, eggs etc. The hotel was built in the 1960’s in plantation style and although older, it is very clean. There are no planned activities, but as this is a small hotel, our group was on a first name basis with everyone and we felt completely at home, comfortable and safe. This is a place you go to for relaxation close to Ocho Rios’ wonderful attractions. We can’t wait to return. A special thanks to all the staff, especially Oliver, Milton, Smiley, Tony, Prudence, Janice and Roquelle, Eukley (for creating some lovely drinks) – you made our holiday wonderful.
