My family and I visited April 22-April 27th. I highly recommend spending the extra money for Club Mobay. They greet you as soon as you get off airplane and walk you through customs and you wait for your shuttle in a room with drinks and snacks. It was awesome. The drive from airport took nearly 4 hours because it was Jamaica’s Easter Monday so traffic was bad. The bus was air conditioned and comfortable. Beaches met us at the front with warm wet towels and were very nice. We had the garden view room which were very nice and comfortable. The resort was very clean. I wasn’t expecting it to be a buffet style breakfast every morning so we got up early to beat the crowds. Food was okay. Even though we were up at 7 the first morning, beach chairs were all “spoken for”. So we woke up at 630 the next morning, all were spoken for...but hardly any one there until 830 or so. The next morning we woke up at 6, chairs were all reserved again. We settled for non shaded chair with a view of the shaded chairs in front of us, as pictured. It was really annoying that they put the chairs with the tents over them in the front because you couldn’t see anything if you were behind them. We decided that maybe they were all coming at night to reserve them. We placed some items on a chair at 9pm. We woke up at 630, had breakfast and went to our reserved chair. My items were gone and someone else’s belongings were there. I asked the life guard once he got there (1030) and he said it was a first come first serve... apparently not. I mentioned we have been there since 7, and 90% of these chairs that had been reserved had not one person in them since. I asked what we were supposed to do. He said to wait til he’s on duty and he will remove the items. We eventually gave up. See picture. We would eat breakfast, go to the beach til 11 and eat lunch. I recommend going early because it gets really busy and its the only restaurant open that is nearby the beach and pool. Food there was good! Drinks seemed a bit weak so I stuck to the mimosas. Dirty bananas were really good. Most, not all, of the staff seemed like they really didn’t want to be there and never really smiled or made conversation. There were a handful of people that were friendly and funny. It was my 30th birthday and my daughters 11th birthday. They specifically ask reason for visit and we listed that. I heard they do something special on some of the reviews but they never did anything... no biggy-we were in JAMAICA! Pools were nice and entertaining for my 6 and 11 year old. The excursions were fun and we knocked them out all in one day. We also got the girls hair braided by the local lady next to the beaches private resort and it was extremely awkward. I read the reviews before going there and it seemed everyone enjoyed it and was safe. I was just wanting half the head done and after she kept doing it I told her that was good enough, she kept going. Same thing for other child. It was $2/braid and we only brought so much with us at the beach to pay her. There was other men walking around with big black bags and going behind the area and just made it awkward. I was just in a hurry to leave... I wouldn’t do it again. It was nice and all, but for the money I guess we expected a little more... we would have received the same experience if we had stayed in the states at a beach here. They made check out easy, and bus ride was comfortable. It was a quick process going through customs and we were through the airport in no time. Anyway, if you don’t mind spending the money, enjoy eating the same things every day and hassling for decent chairs then I say go for it.
We just arrived back from Beaches in Ocho Rios yesterday and had a great experience. Andrea (in the pic), the culinary concierge, was awesome. She was personable and reassuring. The staff made my son feel so special. My son has severe life threatening food allergies and was able to order anything from any menu, prepared safely for him and delivered to anywhere we were eating on the resort for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also made special desserts for him and a banana with brown sugar crepe! This is the first time we've traveled internationally and I was very nervous. Andrea eased our concerns and made this past week extra special.
Wonderful staff, everyone is friendly and genuine since the moment we arrived to the resort. We came and ate lunch and met with Sashane who took amazing care of us and made us feel at home! I will definitely be coming back and I can’t wait!
We had a great time. The kids 9/12 were entertained the entire time. They were either on the slides or playing volleyball in the main pool. The staff was awesome and a special shout-out to Dillon at Bayside. The kids also enjoyed Tom Cruz, Alex, and the T's. They all were great with the kids and adults. Jamaica is a special place and the people are nice and they appreciate people visiting their country. We have already booked for next summer. It's a must if you like resorts.
The people were GREAT and the resort was clean, however, the food was HORRIBLE. If you go to Beaches in Ocho Rios, only go to the Italian restaurants. Go to Neptune for the view, but go with a full stomach because the food is uneatable, the steak was ALL fat and the chicken hard. The ceaser salad was good, but for what we paid to stay at the resort, I'd like more then a salad. And don't waste your time at the French restaurant, 2 out of 3 of us couldn't eat our meal. The lamb chops were all fat as well as the steak. Rashane (Tom Cruise) MADE our vacation, he is the main reason we even gave Beaches another chance this year. We go on vacation every year, and we will never go back to a Beaches resort again. We will miss Rashane and the rest of the staff, they truly made our vacation. If you go the Beaches in Ocho Rios, please tell Rashane, Brady's family said hello and we miss him.
We had a lovely stay at the Beaches Ocho Rios resort. The two main highlights were Hank and his fabulous staff at La Parisienne and the pool. Hank and his staff were fabulous, the only disappointment being that we tried this restaurant on our last night at the resort - next time we will eat here every night! The pool is great, well sized for the number of guests during our stay and the water park is fab, the kids loved it. Swimming in the warm waters is divine but the walk up to the water leaves a bit to be desired. There isn’t much sand over a very hard surface. The other disappointment was the attitude from the aqua staff when booking things like kayaks, they are far from helpful. The food at the other restaurants was reasonable, plenty available but the overall quality could be improved. The room was good, with a split level which helped to feel like there was more space between us and the kids on the couch converted to bed and the pull out trundle. It is a hike from the Montego Bay airport, the website says 90 minutes but when we got on the bus it was 2 hours. The bus itself could do with an upgrade. Definitely recommend a visit for the right deal!
We just got home and we already miss everything. We are a family of 5, 3 boys (9,15,17) and stayed in a King ocean view deluxe. There was plenty of room if you have a rollaway bed, if not it would have been really tight having my wife, me and a 9 year old in our bed. So be sure to ask way in advance for the rollaway and you will have no problems. The rooms are nice and cleaned in the morning with a turn down service in the evening. The bathrooms are large and they always keep fresh towels. The rooms are kept cold due to tile floors and the humidity. The seals on the door could be replaced to keep this out better, but it’s not a complaint. The staff are amazing. I read a ton of reviews that said some were rude and just put on a smile, and I will say I could see why, however it’s because they are trying to be professional and honestly, I see how some guests are just jerks and rude. If you’re nice, the staff will be able to enjoy their jobs instead of being rude to them and they will be straight faced and just do their job. They are very well trained. We made very good friends with some, Kameaka, whom was our savior the first day and Latoya B. Whom was a life guard. Kameaka was very professional, however she made every second we were in her area very enjoyable. She made us feel as if we were the only people at the resort. Latoya B was so great it felt like she was on vacation with us, while still doing her job very well. Claude and Delano were also awesome and we got to speak with them numerous times. This is just 4 of the people out of the over 500 employees on site and they remembered us every day as we did them. Every member of staff was awesome! The restaurants were very nice, some better than others, but all offered something for everyone. I ate steak everyday, but was given anything else we wanted on top of it. It’s all inclusive, if you want steak and fish and lamb chops, you can have them all. If you want every desert on the menu, you can have every desert on the menu. Anyone that complains about food just didn’t know what all inclusive meant. Kameaka even had someone run to a different restaurant to bring a certain type of desert from their for my 17 year olds birthday. They sang to him twice in the morning and evening. It was great. The French restaurant was by far our favorite, but all of them were very good. The gentleman that runs the French one is awesome, we just didn’t catch his name. Lunch at the BBQ place is great. They have burgers, nachos, chicken, pizza and other stuff. Basically food all day all you want! Water sports are great and again, you just have to open your mouth and ask. They will take care of you, even teach you to sail if you don’t know how. If you don’t want to learn, they will take you out and you can just enjoy. Snorkeling was awesome and the kids loved the banana boat. The guys that drive the boats are hilarious and make sure you have fun. The pools can get busy and seating did get to be an issue in the afternoon. However, we did what some other reviews said and grabbed seats early. We stayed at the slides pool most of the time trying to glide across the water. This is wearing the infamous kid slides across the pool and walks out. We tried, but only made it within 3 feet of the wall. Latoya B. Judged my wife and I and said we tied, even though I’m sure I won! Haha The kids area is well guarded and if you’re not a kid, you’re out. Which is awesome for the little ones and gives them their own area and space without the craziness of people jumping and splashing. There are special slides for them, and all kinds of nice things for them to do in the water. The excursions are a little pricey, but Dunn’s River is a must. Just be warned, when walking out of the falls back to the buses the locals are very rude and very very in your face about buying stuff. I thought I’d out smart them by buying from the first person and I still got ambushed by 7 others. Just know they are not with the resort and keep walking to your bus. The drivers for the resort are extremely nice and good drivers. It’s scary to ride in a vehicle in Jamaica, but they do a great job. The alcohol seemed to be watered down and the beer selection was Red Stripe and we found one Heineken Tap. I realized the last day the alcohol, which again is included, probably wasn’t watered down. I was always full from eating so much it had little effect. The last day I drank just as much as I had been but we had not eaten. There was plenty of alcohol! The 2 bad things for us was the WiFi in our specific room. I’m sure it was just due to the location because every where else on property we did not have an issue. The other thing I did not like was they wanted to put a $400 US hold on our credit card, stating no cash on property and it was the only way to buy things at the gift shop. First, you can just use your card at the shop, it’s just nice to be able to use your room number and name. Second, they have locals on property to sell their carvings and trinkets, they only take cash. So maybe it was miss communication, but just for your knowledge, you don’t need to put a hold on your card if you don’t want to. Neither of these things took away from our trip or made this a bad experience. They have tons of stuff all the time into the night for teens, kids and adults. If you get bored, you just need to come out of your shell and enjoy it. This was my second time in Jamaica and the rest of the family’s first. We will definitely go back and when we do, we will be staying at Beaches.
This place is amazing, and the service is impeccable. Especially want to say thank-you to Sashane at Bayside restaurant for always being so kind and friendly! She helped make our vacation easy. Loved the atmosphere of this place. Yah-mon!!
The good: We had a fantastic vacation at Beaches. We got a beautiful room at the beach with Concierge service, both Shelly and Amoy were amazing. We took three excursions, Blue Hole, Dunns Falls and a Catamaran ride. I think Dunns falls was the best, but my kids thought cliff diving at Blue hole was better. All very reasonably priced. Natalee who was at the excursions desk was fantastic. My wife and daughter spent a lot of time at the spa, everyone there was so nice. Shanice, the receptionist was always accommodating and polite, we really liked her. My kids also went Scuba diving with Ryan and he was very helpful. He was very patient and my kids felt very safe with him. All the food was amazing, Davion at the Venetion was so nice to us, he made my kids laugh and even took pictures with us. I think my favorite places to eat was Neptunes and the French restaurant, Hank was hilarious and helped a lot. Dillon at the buffet told us a lot about the culture in Jamaica, we really enjoyed our talks with him. The evening entertainment was a lot of fun and even when there wasn't a show, there was plenty to do. We felt very safe at the resort and even during our excursions. You could tell that the people who lived there appreciated us being in their country. The bad: The medical center at the resort is a total scam. The nurse was very polite, but was not very clear on charges and I felt like her only job there was to get people to have the Dr. come to the resort so they could make more money. Be careful. Rose one of the managers was supposed to get back to us on their charges, but we never heard back, that was disappointing. The bus ride to the resort wasn't air conditioned as advertised, that was rough and several of us did not feel well when we got to the resort. The ride back to the airport was better and air conditioned. Also, tt would be nice if they changed up the menus a bit at the restaurants, so we got more variety. Would we go back to a Beaches, absolutely. Probably Turks and Caicos next time.
We just returned from 8 amazing nights at Beaches Ocho Rios. We loved seeing both the sunrise and sunset over the water from the ocean view suite. The resort and beach were always immaculately clean. The beach area was small but never crowded. The pools and water park were both great. Daily activity options were plentiful and nightly entertainment was engaging and family friendly. The highlight for us was the people. We made friends with two amazing bartenders at the swim-up bar, Paul and Andre, who taught us all about cricket as well as some local slang. We also made friends with our concierge team, four of whom went above-and-beyond to make our vacation comfortable, memorable, personalized, and fun. Shaine, Juanel, Sitha, and Courtney all treated us like their own family and made our kids feel like Jamaica was their second home. The only downsides: 1. Getting there takes 2 hours by bus. Though the bus was clean and safe, there was no food or beverage on board - the trip felt long. 2. The check-in process wasn’t as seamless as it has been for us at other similar resorts. (Checkout was a breeze) 3. The food at the resort was not great. It wasn’t bad and all restaurants were certainly kid friendly... Just not gourmet or authentic. The jerk chicken was the biggest disappointment of the whole trip, having tasted the real thing elsewhere. 4. No hammocks anywhere on the resort. Lack of shade at the beach All in all though, we ALL had a truly fantastic week and a solid resort.
