Rooms are in desperate need of refurbishing. The pool and the gym are nice. The restaurant food has a charming kitschy feel that almost makes up for the sub par food. Close enough to charming town center to walk. Nice grounds and polite service.
We thought it would be a nice stop on the way home, but the place was filthy!! Ceiling was patched, towels had stains, walls were all marked up and some sticky track on the elevator floor was there when we got there and was still there when we left.
Old musty rooms. Windows do not open AC loud needs to be cleaned or replaced. Took two days to clean laundry room down the hall it was a mess with lent and dried paper from the drier Good staff and breakfast. Restaurants don't waste your time walk into town.
Room is dated, but ok. Beds comfortable and ok pillows. Terrible, 1999 internet speeds. Comical, and even worse with very poor area cell phone reception. Other options, not sure if any better. No receptionist n parking, all spaces near entrance dedicated to hotel managers.
I was here for a week. The common area of the hotel is welcoming, but the rooms are in need of new, well, everything. From the dark green (and very stained) carpeting to the dark red bedspreads, nothing is welcoming. The bathroom countertop was separating from the wall. Housekeeping was ok. As others have noted, the tv reception can, on some channels, look a bit fuzzy, but this is not a big deal. What is a big deal is the internet. The wi-fi is very, very slow and drops often. Perhaps this is a function of its location being a bit out of town (and a small town at that), but it was a remarkably frustrating thing with which to contend. I did not eat dinner at the restaurant, but can say that the bar staff tries its best and gives good service. The hotel bar is also popular with non-guests who come for trivia (Wednesday) and karaoke (Thursday). The breakfast buffet was decent, with varied choices during the week. I was torn between 2 and 3 stars, but the friendliness of the desk and bar staffs make it a three.
Spent two nights while attending nearby theater festival. The room was larger and the bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows to choose from. Two sinks, one outside the bathroom, was a nice option but hall area could use better lighting. However, the sinks were badly cracked and need replacement. TV was fine; wifi was a bit weak. If you want a hot breakfast on the weekend you might look elsewhere. The eggs appeared to be powdered one; but the potatoes were excellent. On the weekend they do not have the "grab and go" breakfast sandwiches that were listed on the menu in the room - too bad. Good place to stay if you can get a good rate but not worth the $200+ a night that I first saw when looking for a hotel.
This is one of the worse hotels I have stood in during my life. The internet is extremely poor quality and I was unable to FaceTime with my wife and daughter because it would constantly lose connectivity. As you enter the room, you are immediately overwhelmed with a thick musty smell, the AC unit is very loud even on low and the tv cable also has poor reception. It is obvious that the management hasn't put any effort back into the hotel for renovations since it was built many years past. The towels in the bathroom are old and on their last life, I ate breakfast and 1 evening meal both meals were good and my compliments to the food staff. The walls in the common area are in a dire need for a painting and my room has several deep scratches and a smashed flying insect that the previous occupant probably killed and the housekeeping staff never bothered to wipe down. I recommend that anyone that must come to this area for training consider getting a rental car and stay at the quality inn, it is more centrally located and commute to the Clarion to catch the government transportation in the mornings.
Beautiful sunsets, very friendly staff, clean rooms and a great place to eat, The White Horse Tavern. We enjoyed two very nice days at the Clarion. Enjoyed the pool and the staff was ready to help in any way they could. Highly recommended. I will also take this time to caution anyone wanting to visit Harpers Ferry The mayor and police are out to get visitors. Parking is HIGHLY restricted, if you get a Federal parking permit you can park several miles away and be bussed in or you can park at the train station in town. ALL other parking is at the command of the town and if they feel like it you will get a ticket $50.00 CASH payable in 48 hours, unless you go to the police station then you can use a credit card.
This is a somewhat dated, but clean and well-maintained hotel with clean and comfortable rooms. The free breakfast was above average and the in-hotel bar and restaurant was a convenient choice for a beer and meal after a day of seeing the sights.
This is an older property that is the only large place outside of Martinsburg or Charles Town. We had several rooms for a family gathering, and it was "o.k." for the most part. Front line staff, including the desk, tavern and dining room and Housekeeping, were friendly and helpful, the lobby has an inviting area for sitting and reading or visiting (and had complimentary coffee service during the morning), the outdoor pool area was great for the kids. This is also a conference center and was hosting a wedding and reception at the time of our visit. It took much longer than expected to receive our food when we ordered lunch in the tavern and breakfast in the dining room (although there is a breakfast buffet). My main complaint is with the ordinary maintenance. The toilet in one room backed up, we had only tepid (not hot) water for showers on Saturday afternoon while getting ready for our event (although it was hot on Sunday morning), our television remote control didn't work properly, and the reception was "snowy" as if on an old antenna. We had two toilet seats that were very loose, a towel bar that fell apart and a headboard that fell off the wall! I want to like this place, and since they host training events for the Government there is the expectation that things should be in tip-top condition. With a little more attention to room upkeep, they could be.
