Formentor, a Royal Hideaway Hotel5.0 out of 5.0

this hotel location is a slice of paradise but watch out for the price of the food and beverage - it's just not worth it and i don't understand why hotels grossly overcharge for F&B. The grounds and the hotels itself are great and by and large, the service is good.
Everything they promise is true. The superb location, the lush garden, the pool, the view, our room was nice and the service kind and fast. BUT: The food they offer is more than horrible, it has nothing to do with a hotel of this category. pre fixed, tough, not fresh, not tasty at all, every freeway restaurant in europe offers better meals. The problem is, to find an alternative, you have to drive miles and miles back to Pollenca. We will go back, but bring our own food. There are major remodeling plans going on, let's cross our fingers that Barcelo does not wipe out the nostalgic atmosphere !
Formentor is idyllic, the staff are unbelievably kind and helpful and we were on a cloud the whole time we were there. That's not to say there aren't improvements that could be made (for us, it was the plumbing and limited out of season dining options). But we will definately stay at Formentor again without a second's hesitation and highly recommend it as a place of beauty, tranquility and relaxation. You'll not want to leave.
Since almost everything has been said about this gem of a hotel I may add that it is indeed a royal hideaway. Calm, amidst pristine gardens, there is nothing that can keep you from having not a care in the world. The staff is well trained, friendly and attentive. Your day starts with a perfect breakfast buffet which caters to every taste and need. The various lounges are stacked with exquisite coffee table books in case you don't feel like going to the pool or beach which are only a few meters away. The only downside in my opinion is the dinner arrangement at the El Colomer which is the main hotel restaurant. Even if you have only a banana or a small salad, you pay around 60,- € without drinks. You are actually paying for those guests who load their plates fully 3 times at the (fabulous) buffet. The reception staff was helpful and solution- oriented when a major problem occured that had nothing to do with the hotel. Here I would like to mention Rosa to whom I am very grateful. Will definitely come back again!
We spent 3 days here in September once again in this beautiful location. Ongoing improvements evident from the pool and gardens to the reception and new carpeting. The food and service remains outstanding with very friendly staff. Look forward to visiting next year.
a beautiful hotel set in a perfect location. friendly staff who went out of their way to ensure you had a perfect stay. first class selection of beautifully prepared dishes at every meal. I would highly recommend you visit!
This has to be one of the finest properties anywhere. Exquisite gardens laid across a quite wonderful setting, very extensive and beautiful sea frontage, wonderful clear calm sea (why bother with the Caribbean?). Many of the rooms are delightful, the service is charming and thoughtful, the food is generous and excellent quality. Don't necessarily feel you have to go for a sea view room - the garden and mountain views are often charming too.
A gorgeous location, two super swimming pools, beautiful gardens, lovely public areas and absolutely delicious varied meals (buffet breakfast and dinner of an exceptionally high standard) and very drinkable wines. Soft towels matched the luxury label BUT the size of rooms, bathrooms/showers (not much water pressure) and bedlinens were not quite what we would have expected to match the 5* experience. That said, we were seldom in the room as the weather was perfect and there was so much else to do (or not do - lounging by the pools was absolutely lovely). The service was impeccable (except perhaps for in the bar where it was not quite of the standard shown elsewhere throughout the hotel). Would happily recommend this hotel for family, friends or couples. Just below the hotel, the beach has lots of watersports with very friendly people organising them and it is a short walk to the ferry if you want to go on a boat trip or catch the ferry to Porta de Pollenca.
An excellent two day stay including a "Sunset Classic" concert in the grounds. The hotel has recently been modernised, but they have managed to retain its charm. Our room was excellent. The triple opening window is very nice and provides the feel of a terrace without the additional cost or loss of privacy. The dining terrace is glorious, and all food very good. a great stay.
Stayed here recently and found everything to be just great. For a thoroughly relaxing holiday I don't think it can be bettered. Fabulous gardens, a lovely couple of pools, soft towels, great food and drink, gorgeous views - what more could one require? We particularly enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner, and the impeccable service. We will most certainly be going again!
