I will start this review by saying that it is the entire Shangri la team that we met during our holiday that made this such an unforgettable experience ...... with no exceptions they are all outstanding , friendly , professional , genuine people. The airport staff at Male to assist you to Gan on both the outbound and return are fantastic . On arrival at the island several hours late and in torrential rain our welcome was warm and welcoming and the start of our holiday of a lifetime began. I could write forever about our Ocean View Tree house villa but it was stunning and we never wanted to leave it . Perfection in every way. The bikes were great to get around the island on and great to cycle around this beautiful lush island. Every restaurant fantastic , particular shout out to everyone at Dr Ali's . M lounge watching the sunset every night we will never forget and again thank you to all the team who looked after us so well. Golf course brilliant and the team there so friendly and helpful. The golf equipment an excellent standard too .What makes this hotel so special taking aside how stunningly beautiful it is is the people. You are all truly fantastic and made our holiday simply perfect and I cannot recommend your resort highly enough , without a doubt the best place we have ever stayed.

We have just returned from a two week holiday to Sri Lanka and the Maldives with Kuoni. Having spent an action packed week touring Sri Lanka we were looking forward to a week of relaxation in beautiful surroundings and we were not disappointed! We have been fortunate to have visited the Maldives five times previously so our expectations were high as we have our 'wish list' based on prior experience. The service at Villingili is arguably the best we have ever experienced and Deepthi who looked after our beach villa throughout our stay deserves a special mention. Irina our island host was also outstanding. Management staff were very visible and took the time to speak to us on a daily basis to check we were happy. This was very much appreciated. Our beach villa - 211- was superb and of the highest standard in all respects. Not only did we have a palatial villa, our own beach area and private pool but also a separate lounge too! The three restaurants were exceptional both in terms of the quality and variety of food on the menu but also in terms of the service too. We ate at all three restaurants and were suitably impressed by the range and variety of food offered and the service in all three. The M Bar staff also deserves a special mention as they were extremely busy making a variety of cocktails during Happy Hours but still managed to find time to socialise and chat to guests. We were lucky enough to see over 100 dolphins - close by our boat- on our dolphin boat trip and we saw numerous fish snorkelling on the House reef. One of my personal highlights was spotting a Green turtle swimming close by the beach and being able to get near enough to video it close up! This was an unforgettable holiday and we would like to thank all the staff for making our holiday so special - thank you!

We visited the Shangri-La Villingili the end of October and beginning of November and had a wonderful relaxing seven days. The weather was mainly beautifully sunny with a warm constant temperature with some rain mainly at night. We were extremely lucky and had a upgrade to a water villa which is amazing as you have direct access with steps to the ocean which is as clear as crystal . The snorkelling is amazing,so many colourful fish, you can use complementary snorkel and flippers from the dive centre. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are three restaurants on the island and the food was very delicious with plenty of choices. I also used the Chi spa and had a wonderful massage with warm shells and coconut oil which made you feel completely relaxed. Everyone has bikes to easily get around the island or you can just phone for a golf buggy which will take you anywhere on the island at anytime. There are lots of water sports,a golf course, dive centre and swimming pool,so plenty to do if you like to keep busy or you can just chill out and relax. We would definitely come back to the Shangri-La, it’s an excellent choice if you are thinking of coming to the Maldives .

Hubby and I were there to celebrate his 40th birthday. It was our first time in Maldives and I fell in love with the pictures of the resort. We opted for a water villa because coming from a cosmopolitan city like Singapore, this is an experience that you cannot get here. Weather was amazing despite us taking the chance that it is supposed to be the "rainy season" for Maldives. Took us an International flight, a domestic flight, a bus and a speed boat to reach the island resort but it was all worth it! We didn't even need to check in at the reception as our island host was there to meet us at the hotel jetty and send us to our water villa straight away. The water villa was amazing and the view was breathtaking. Breathtaking. Breathtaking... The room was huge, with a 2-part outdoor area - one that is more sheltered for you to admire the sea while hiding away from the direct heat and another one that is just inches away from the crystal clear blue ocean. The hammock was nice to get some shots done but not exactly where you will hang out for long. The room was well equipped with aroma incense, Nespresso machine, gourmet tea, moisturiser, after sun lotion, insect repellant and life jackets etc. Plenty of areas to lounge around. Just the way I imagine a Maldives holiday to be. There was an walk in wardrobe that I have always dream of having. The bathroom is huge with 2 separate sinks so that we could put out our own stuff. The outdoor bathing area was pretty cool too. We mostly got around the island in our bicycles. Granted the bicycles were not in the best conditions but understandable through wear and tear. The experience of being about to cycle around the island, taking in the sights and the sounds was pretty incredible. I love that the island is HUGE and mostly covered by coconut trees and green foliage. Roads were a bit bumpy to cycle on but hey, it is an island after all! We went running around the island twice during our stay. It was a lovely experience and gave us the chance to explore the property as well. One could easily clock 6km around the island. Staff was friendly and genuinely welcoming. Makes us feel really at home. Some more attentive than others. Which is expected. Staying in a water villa does mean that any request will generally take longer to materialise. So if you have any housekeeping needs, it will take about 20minutes for the staff to appear at your doorstep. But hey, we are on a relaxing holiday in Maldives and these people do not have wings. So I think it is ok to wait a little. Besides, the view of the ocean in-front of the water villa and the peace+tranquility of the surrounding is to DIE FOR. I have never seen such a beautiful view before. The restaurant food quality was good but rather pricey. A simple meal for 2 with drinks can easily cost you USD100. Dr Ali was nice but Fashala was the most romantic restaurant I have ever been in my life - a sea facing view with soft lighted candles and live band to serenade love songs.... N because Fashala and Dr Ali are actually very romantic by design, I kinda regret spending the money on Dine by Design on Mt Villingi, which cost USD500+ for 2 with 2 glasses of wine. Though to be fair, it was a very lovely set up and the staff (Ali) and chef (JK) were super attentive and warm. What didn't go so well? - hotel missed out on our housekeeping one day and we had to call for one - would have been nice if the hotel has done more to make the stay more special as I did mention in my email that it is my husband 40th year and this was a surprise trip. They did accommodate my ask for a free birthday cake but I guess that's pretty standard of any 5 stars hotel. If they had done anything more without me asking, that would have really been the 6th star in my mind - wifi speed was not so good but didn't bother me that much since I really do want to disconnect for a few days (can't say the same for my husband. haha) Overall, I think we picked the right time to visit - early Nov. Seems like it is not a peak season for them and there are not many guests. Which is just the way we like it! It was a really amazing experience for the 2 of us and I want to thank all the lovely people we met at the hotel for taking care of us.

Amazing 3-nights stay, it’s my 1st anniversary of wedding and I really was lucky to choose shingri-lla as my location of this apportunity. I statyed in the deluxe villa wich is a little expensive than the beach villa but more private, but you cannot swim at that side of the sea. I had an amazing romantic dinner experience which was the best experience with professional service and great staff. I didn’t try the activities. The arrangements of your flights during arrival and departure are excellent. I hope to come back soon to stay longer. I don’t know if the prices was expensive, but I really feel it’s fair.

Shangrila Villingli was absolutely surreal. Mr Alwyn (He himself was very attentive and Courteous) and his team were amazing ans so was the property. Beautifully built and located. Special mention to Asif (Director F & B) , Chef Latif (Taking great care of us with his delicious Indian Meals), Chef Aman Singh, Anastasia (Diving Center), Amaie (Diving Center) , Adam and the cute lady photographer at the photo lounge. Serving staff at the restaurants, buggy driver and so many other people who made this trip wonderful. Thank you everyone at Shangrila Villingli. We shall remember the trip for life. Everyone looking for a perfect vacation in Maldives - your search for a good property ends at Shangrila.

Takes a quite long flight to GAN (Male then Gan airport) then another 10 mins speed boat to Shangri-la island. But it's worth it. Their beach and view were awesome, crystal water along the island. We stay 4 days in water villa and it's superb, enjoyed snorkling around the villa and very good service that you could ask almost everything for your food, beverages, etc. It is a MUST before you die.

We have been to the Maldives three times in the past; once to Karumba and twice to Soneva Fushi. I would recommend both places for different reasons, but this was a truly excellent holiday. We took two Deluxe Pool Villas for us and our two children. This was probably overkill because, to be honest, the villa comes with a huge sitting room which is entirely separate from the palatial bedroom and bathroom. Our children could have slept in there, except for the fact that there don't appear to be black-out curtains in the room. The main bedroom is exceptional; huge amounts of cupboard space, a beautiful huge bed, a vast bathroom with egg bathtub and two separate basins. An indoor shower is complemented by a fabulous outdoor shower, which I used every time. Every detail is taken care of and a house keeper comes twice a day to sort things out so we felt very well cared-for. Speaking of that, the Maldivians are excellent at service and are exceptionally gracious. I would choose this part of the world over the Caribbean any day, where the service is sullen and slow by comparison. We were on half-board and the breakfasts were excellent and bountiful. The evening meals were held at their main restaurant. The children had a good, reasonably-priced kids menu, and the food was generally very good. The service in that restaurant varied from excellent, to slow and forgetful. It's a lovely location, right by the beach, but can also be moved indoors in inclement weather. It was the venue for the inclusive Saturday night cocktail party, which was a delightful way of meeting other guests. There was live entertainment all night of a good standard, coupled with an excellent seafood buffet with jumbo shrimps the size of a lobster! There is another bar, close by, which is all white lounge chairs with white sun shades billowing in the wind. A perfect venue for watching the sun set. The two other restaurants were of a very good standard and the settings beautiful. There is a main pool but we used it only once because each pool villa has its own. We had hammocks in our garden, which I used for the odd nap. Villas 126/7 are great for proximity to everything, including kids club. Their beaches are full of coral so not pleasant to walk on, but that didn't bother us at all as it was the view that we were most keen on. The kids club is excellent. Both my children turned their noses up at the concept when I first mentioned it, but ended up spending a lot of time there because the activities were really enjoyable and creative. We loved riding around the island on our own bicycles, there's something so liberating about it when you come from a world congested with cars and narrow roads. We used bicycles to get to the snorkelling location which was also excellent; the corals are in decent condition and there was lots to see off the house reef. It is very well organised with a locker to leave your things in and a well-marked avenue through which to access to main reef and drop-off. We took the snorkelling trip to see turtles and saw plenty. This is an island that has a turtle nesting site and a fair few green turtles were spotted. The diving was amazing; including manta rays, huge sharks and healthy coral. My kids gained some pool training and the elder was allowed out in the ocean with an instructor whilst I took a refresher and did the same dive but much deeper. The real highlight of the holiday was the trip to see the dolphins. I cannot begin to express how incredible it was. There sea was full of them and there must be more than a hundred that swim in the area. They are spinner dolphins that swim alongside your boat and do the most extraordinary aerial tricks; truly one of the best things I have ever done. Overall it is a terrific holiday and my children are begging to come back!

shangri la resort was a breath of fresh air and an experience in paradise!! was a beautiful getaway from the mad city life and stress of work!! the place was amazing and very well maintained and the service was special and personalised! i must mention Ayan, the person assigned to take care of my stay, thank you Ayan, you were wonderful! all the staff were very friendly and always ready to help .and i want to say a big Thank you to all of you for making my stay absolutely enjoyable. ahmed of the water sports was amazing too! i highly reccomend this awesome place and am sure it will be a fantastic experience to be at shangri la, maldives. i am coming back again soon!

Booking. Strongly recommend the package which incl 2 days swimmim pool villa 130m2 + 2 days water villa 166m2. It also incl transfer service ($1000)and evening buffet ($200). Buffet allowance could be net off the set manual price which is offered in other restaurants starting from $135 per person. Service. 1. The bar tender named Anvtar (I mayspell wrong) who is from Kazakhstan and only has worked here for one month, shows his great talent in hospitality industry. He is able to remember my name and favorite snacks only after meeting me once! This is very high standard of 5 stars hotel. 2. Hotel GM gave us a free ride when we were walking to the swimming pool bar for each Saturday sun set party :) In the party, all wines incl champagne are FREE as well as elegant snacks. This is a new program which is created by the new mgt team, who show great potential to raise hotel service standard to a new record level. 3. For island host service, it might be improved a little bit. The hand over work btw hosts was not smoothly when we changed to water villa for the last 2 days, while a blond hair hostess showed great hospitality to her guests and, along with mgt team members, talked to guests during Saturday wine party. Room. I like the water villa design which has a long corridor connecting bedroom and washroom. Private outdoor shower is interesting. The water villas located on north of the island have lower water and closer to the coral reef area for snorkelling. Water villas at the south west area have clearer water but deeper water. It may not be good for kids or people with poor swimming skills, like me :( Food and activities. Dinner costs $100++ per person at least in the restaurants with marvelous natural view and decorations. We asked for a dinner in villa by design which costed $530 in total. Candles were dotted on the villa water platorms with flowers. One exclusive waiter and a chef were working for us and standby outdoors for those 2 hours. The experience is worth of the price! Of course, the millionaires can book private dinners in the sea with additional yacht rental $400 per hour! We attended dolphin watching $60++ per person and saw handreds of these lovely animals jumping over the water one after the other. Too exciting! However, sea fishing in the evening $90++ per person didn't bring us good time as my we only caught one small fish... Thank the sailors for their fush gift which released our depression.
