This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The Tree Villa was perfect. The food is fantastic and the service is not beatable. Enjoy dolphin watching, diving or just relax at the beach. It is a paradise.
Been here for our honeymoon in Jan2016. It is an amazing resort, we had a water villa that was exactly like the one I have been dreaming for years! Photographer of the resort is really good, food is amazing, we met the Italian chef Filippo Abisso that was really nice with us. Everything was perfect.. except the last night when we supposed to have some nice romantic time instead we found 5/6 cockroaches into the room (something that happened even in the other days) and it was so late that we could not call the reception to ask them to do something. We mentioned that after we checked out and they offered us a discount to stay there in the future... well not sure when we could go back there! We asked to convert it to another Shangri-la but they said it is not possible, but it would have been really appreciated to be honest.
Visited the Shangri-la Villingili resort just last week for a quick extended weekend R&R and had the most fabulous experience. Getting to a resort in the Maldives is not the easiest and one has to usually take long boat rides and multiple plane hops to finally get to the resort. However, the Shangril-la is only a short 7 min boat ride from GAN international airport, this makes the journey extremely convenient. Exited the airport and were greeted with Azure waters of the ocean and smiling staff from the Shangril-la who were extremely organised and on the ball. We were welcomed by a gentlemen named Zenith, perhaps it was preordained that our weekend here was going to be the Zenith of 2017?! :D As soon as we arrived we were introduced to our island host Asad who swiftly took us to the breakfast buffet and made sure that we were well fed. Post breakfast we were taken to our stunning water villa where the check in takes place in the room itself. I thought that was pretty cool and convenient. The villa was extremely gorgeous and spacious. Perfect for couples or even small families. The bathroom had an indoor & an outdoor shower as well as a HUGE bathtub. The outdoor deck area had a hammock over the ocean which was my partners perch for a good part of the weekend. If it wasnt for the rain, i think he would have slept on the hammock thru the night. The island is large and you need to cycle to get around (or buggies). As soon as we arrived at the room Asad made sure that the cycles were adjusted for height for the both of us, its the little things like this that make you feel well taken care of. The resort has 3 restaurants catering to different cuisines. All were really good, my fav was the Jaavu cafe (italian) while my partner loved the Indian at Dr.Ali's. Thank you Rohit, that Pina Colada was one of the best ive had. If i am to point out one flaw or something we wished that was there during our stay is PIZZA. Really wish they served pizza somewhere on the island. Something about the hunger after a long snorkel session that only a pizza and a cold one can satiate. The Dive centre was really good too - Katrina really took good care of us and took us beginners to a beautiful dive site. We saw with a giant turtle and that was perhaps the highlight of my trip. Since it was my first dive i was quite nervous but Katrina really made us feel secure and was extremely vigilant. The good part is they assign you a dive instructor based on your language proficiency. Katrina has a wicked sense of humour too, so if you are an english speaker ask for her! The corals outside the water villas are natural and stunning and one can spend hours exploring with all kinds of gorgeous colorful fish. We were told that they have 42 turtles in the Bay - we spotted 2! A giant one while diving and one little guy while snorkelling outside our water villa. Many resorts in the Maldives charge an arm and a leg for snorkelling equipment and it is usually advised to carry your own. But here they give good equipment complementary so thats a plus. Pro tip: best time to snorkel is from 12-2pm when the sun is on top and you can see right down to the corals clearly. What really strikes me about this property is that everything is so well thought through. All the restaurants have such a great vantage point and one can watch the sunset while sipping on a cocktail. Or waking up to the sound of the surf... everything is just stunning. The amazing thing is that this place is great for all kinds of groups. We had the most romantic setting but saw some families having an equally good time. To summarise, this was perhaps one of my best trips and would 100% recommend it to anyone who plans to visit here.
It has been some time since my last stay, but I had the privilege to stay at Villingili for 10 days on 3 different occasions, in fact 3 consecutive years. Every trip, every moment of each trip, was sublime. The first time we went was my first Maldives experience so the wow factor impact was the biggest then. This resort has all that you expect at a top Maldives luxury resort; a personal butler, personalized service, attention to detail, amazing and delicious food, perfumed cooled face clothes waiting for you after every activity, wonderful excursions and snorkeling and a peaceful and magical Spa. We stayed at a Beach Villa, an Ocean Front Villa and a Water Villa and all were amazing.....if I had to choose a favorite it would be the Beach Villa. I have stayed at the Maldives in another 2 resorts so I have a base for reference, and Vilingili ranks amongst the very best on any comparative scale. The ONLY negative is that its pricey, maybe just a touch too much......but how to put a price on Paradise.... After 3 visits I am not sure I will be back as I want to explore the rest of the Maldives and stay at as many resorts as I can. But I do recommend it very highly for anyone seeking Heaven on Earth in the Indian Ocean.
This is my second visit to this place and i have fallen in love all over again with all the details... Just a few drawbacks but not to an extent that would make annoy me.. What makes this one special is the service ! We where a very big group a total of 16 ! 8 adults the rest are kids and infants and i think they have managed to make everyone happy. On top of the list comes My dad which is usually very hard to please in such trips , he gave a lot of criticism yet each staff member tried their best to make him happy and to solve any problem that he faced. They attend to any problem in an exceptionally quick and convenient manners . First , the weather was not that good out of 6 days we had only one sunny day but for me that was kind of expected , however the staff members made sure our arrival went as smoothly as possible, we arrived after breakfast and dad requested breakfast that was complementary since we missed the breakfast due to the delay of Transportation caused by the bad weather, anyways later the breakfast was billed to us which left dad with disappointment, i believe it was a mistake and after talking to the manger they took it off from the bill again. It was my 5th anniversary and that is why i choose this place since i spent my honeymoon there , they have arranged a room for me with a welcome back decoration however since we were a big group i was checked in in a different room by mistake ! My parents took the one with the decorations which actually made us laugh Later on, in my anniversary night they have arranged for me bed decorations and bath tub too which was very nice. In the same night we have managed to have a romantic private dinner in dr ali, again with the excellent service everything was impressive , when we just made a comment that the food is very spice the waiter insisted to change it so we can enjoy our meal. My sister who wears a hijab have requested to put a fence around the pool and in few hours that was made so she have enjoyed her private villa pool to the most. The drawback was when i visited the hotel 5 years ago they had more activities like classes that were interesting aside from the beach activities , taught us how to make bags and fruit baskets with the tree leaves , so we could also enjoy some things in the bad weather, that classes doesn't exist anymore . When it comes to the breakfast the choices where quiet limited and was repetitive, we were wondering why they dont serve Arabic breakfast in any day however again a great Egyptian chief named hassan i think managed to prepare for us in the 4th day a great tailored Egyptian breakfast which was such a pleasant idea made us all happy. Also 5 years a got there was a proper villa host service so for example our host during my honeymoon was aref and he was a great help visiting each day to check our schedule and let us know what we can do, that didn't happen again this visit! Although i think we were assigned a host who greeted us on arrival but didn't see her again throughout the trip, moreover i have actually requested while booking to have aref again as my host , but that didn't happen so i though he is not there anymore , however in the middle of our stay we asked about him and we realized he is in the island and than we met him and he was checking on us everyday again . This guys is just great ! Very few activities for the kids the club is quiet small and boring for them they could easily add few more interesting things like story reading class, movie time , etc Another thing is that although we have booked full board, the drinks were not included durung the meal time in the restaurant we had to pay extra if we will drink "both soft drinks or juices ".. As i mentioned the drawbacks were very few , and again this place is extraordinary especially when it comes to service, comparing to other hotels that i stayed in , even in Maldives such as Jumeirah. Special thanks to the manager who had a long meeting with my dad to Make sure he is happy and dropped us at the last day to the speed boat. And also to Aref " honeymoon host" Over all i am very happy with this visit and will repeat it again in my 10th anniversary inshalla. Thanks shangrila..
It was such a great honey moon . We visited shangrila vilingili in november but since a couple of years . This hotel was over expectations in everything . The tree hous villa with private pool was stunning , its infinity pool is looking for a nice view to the ocean and surrounded by amazing big green trees which gives you total privacy. The room is divided into 3 parts : the beed room and the bathroom ( which is very big and amazing with the outdoor shower and the bath tub in the middle of bathroom) living room which is nicely designed and equipped with coffee machine, speakers and tv off course and the outside deck which is facing the ocean and totally close to the ocean and opened. The breakfast was always yummy and the view while taking breakfast is one of the best views ever . You will be provided with bikes and also there is buggies also if you want to call anytime for pick up . We had a private romantic dinner at the villa which was super super amazing , the decoration, the food , the chef and everything. Also tried their jungle dinner and liked alot the mood where the theme was in a middle of the trees and all the light only by candles and it was a barbecue menu . The lobster night was also very nice to try . We had a boat trip to see the dolphins and this was such a great experience . Really if you are looking for a romantic place to have fun and relax in a private place then this resort is highly recommended.
There is no doubt that Villingili is as good as it gets. We were also convinced that the staff was very well intended, polite, and helpful. And yet a resort with such claims needs to be well managed. This is exactly where this beautiful resort fails miserably. We travelled half way around the planet to go to the Maldives because we needed a good rest and recharge our batteries. We were ready to pay the top price for the chance, which we did. Our disappointment started when we realised that the photo and description on Bookings.com was misleading. We thought we were staying on the beach but found out that the room was far from the beach and required calling a buggy service each time. Not only that, the proximity of the villas are so close that you cannot escape large families with noisy small children. Our first morning we woke up at 5 am, against our will. We soon found out that they had a policy of not allowing the guests to swim after 6 pm in the sea. They offered the pool instead. Imagine going to the Maldives and finding out that the access to the sea is restricted! The management seemed kind enough to offer us a better villa on the beach when we complained about the noise. but only to find out that this time we were put in the middle of a construction area where villas right and left were being repaired and refurbished. The air conditioning in our new villa broke down twice, the fridge had to be replaced thrice, and soon we had repair crews in our villa every other day. Toward the end of our stay the room service started to lag behind with towels left on the floor, dirty. The Chinese food in the restaurants is extremely disappointing, very sweet and feels like a take away from Wok Express, except that it cots ten times more. Their Indian food feels more real. I must also add here that I ate one of the best steaks one night. The dive centre is very good but insist on an interesting site. The Spa is wonderful. In the end we were given two nights off of our bill, but I would have preferred paying the full price and enjoy a decent stay, which I do not have the chance to enjoy for another year now. Nothing is more disappointing than to have been mislead by fake images on the internet and being sold a construction site after all.
Room - tidy, big and clean, free fruits and coffee Food - very nice, specially lamb and wonderful buffet breakfast, Snorkeling - not too bad, the sea very clean, a lot of fish nearby, if you have luck, you can see the turtle and shark baby
We visited the resort in June and the weather was stunning although they told us it's low season , it never rained once and the sun was up all the time . We are family with 3 kids (11,13 and 6 ) we had really enjoyed this resort . The resort is the last resort on the island of Maldives hence u have to take a 70 min flight from male airport to reach their but it's worth it . They are the only resort with golf court in Maldives . We truly enjoyed the fishing trip we took private boat to a stunning location and we were able to fish around 21 fish and they grilled and fried for us as per our taste . We also did the planting coral activity and we arranged them up then wore our snorkelling gear and planted it down the ocean after naming it and dedicated it to the Maldives . They promised to send pictures and updates about the coral for 2 years every 6 months which I loved. The island is extremely friendly and they have amazing shisha lounge and Indian restaurant there aside from fancy dining and the and international one . They have many sports activities my kids did the parasailing and tubes but they also have banana boat and jet ski and of course diving lessons .
We discovered the Shangri La hotel first in Oman in 2016 and thought that it was amazing. Due to that fact when we decided to come to the Maldives Shangri La was the obvious choice. The journey to the hotel was a nice surprise in itself We landed in Gan which used to be an old RAF station during the 2nd world war , there is now a small modern airport then we got onto a small coach to drive about 300 yards to the boat stain and then Got a speed boat to the resort. There is no charge for this unlike many other resorts. It was rather late when we eventually arrived but were greeted personally by the GM Mr A Drago which was a lovely touch. We stayed in a lovely beach villa 2 adults and three children. This resort has its own golf course and provides you with cycles so that you can get around the island complex or you can call a golf buggy to take you wherever. The food in the restaurants is brilliant, service produce and presentation plus variety is amazing. Breakfast buffet , again amazing most of the staff are amazing our whole family still remembers the omelette station chef "Clive " with great fondness . Apart from the occasional rain it was a amazing holiday and I look forward to coming back . This is an amazing place fantastic hotel fantastic management with a fantastic attitude. My only regret is not doing more when I was at the hotel. Hopefully I will rectify that on our return.
