I experienced Madrid once before while studying here, and so it was important to me to have a central location for a hostel when I came back to visit. The Hat is beautifully situated just south of plaza mayor and sol and is phenomenal. It is clean, modern, energetic, and also has blazing fast internet for those of us who need to stay connected. The staff is extremely helpful and the hostel offers great meet ups for people to socialize. Highly recommend.

Incredible decor, great rooftop bar, good and safe location for exploring the city, nice rooms, clean and wicked showers, friendly staff. We were only here for one night but will gladly stay again our next trip to Madrid.

Dorm rooms are clean and beds are super comfortable. Great location and facilities. Breakfast finishes by 10am which isn't great for those recovering from a night out, but there are self catering facilities and several restaurants and cafes nearby.

This hostel has everything you need! It is very clean and has a good atmosphere. I loved it and would not hesitate to go back if I am in Madrid. Located near the Plaza Mayor, it is the ideal place to discover the city.

Sparkling clean, very cute hostel in great location. Can walk from many train and bus station right near the shops and meson square and heaps of restaurantss Cheap and friendly, also has an affordable laundromat and kitchen. Highly recommend

Posh boutique Hostel with a good rooftop bar (not a bad lobby bar either). Trendy twist on Hostel which appears to be popular with young and not so young set. We had a drink in the lobby then proceeded to finish the night with the hip set on the upper 5th floor terrace. Cocktails in jam jars....wine by the glass. Closes early at Midnight which is very early for these parts.

Prior to arrival - booking was cancelled by the hostel. Although communicated via email (and the venue sought and booked alternative accomodation) it demonstrated low security in booking guarantee. The location, staff and facilities did seem nice when visited (hence 2 stars), but in accomodation booking security is a must. Poor.

The Hat in Madrid is a lovely and modern hostel right in the centre of town. It has extremely comfy beds and a gorgeous rooftop bar. The only thing that I found a little disappointing was that the kitchen area is super small, so making a meal yourself is not really possible (there's only a grill, kettle and microwave and little workspace). Aside from that I guess it's not the best hostel to meet people as it hasn't got a lively communal area besides the rooftop bar where people from outside the hosel come too. This wasn't an issue for me though as I was only there for one night. Furthermore it's clean, the staff is friendly and they offer a perfect 'homemade' map of the city.

We stayed at this hostel and were surprised by it's smart, modern style. Rooms had all the basics of a hotel, good shower, tv etc. Breakfast was a basic help yourself buffet in a small space, not great if you coincided with the odd school party but perfectly adequate. A really nice rooftop bar. And all in the centre of Madrid on a small, traditional street. Can be noisy in the evening but then so can all of Madrid. If you're young at heart and want a stylish budget place to stay, this is great.

The best thing I found on The Hat was its location, really close to Plaza Mayor. From there you can walk to almost all Madrid main attractions, or if you prefer, you can just have a 5-10-minute walk to Sol or Opera Metro stations. It is completely safe to walk around by night. The hostel is modern, well decorated and very clean – one of the best hostels I’ve been up to now. The room (4-bed room) didn’t have many space bu has a nice locker. The beds are made of wood and don’t make much noise with people moving during the night, letting you have a pleasant and comfortable sleeping time. There is good sound insulation. The weakest part of my experience was the breakfast. It is served in the main entrance, so there are no big tables or space to eat calmly. Regarding the variety of bread, fruits and so on, I would say that is mediocre when comparing to similar hostels serving the same type of breakfast. Anyway, if I forget the breakfast, as I said, it’s one of the best hostels I’ve been up to now.
