I stayed at the hotel in June 2017, the hotel has undergone renovations that are not yet completely finished but there is no disturbance to hotel guests. The rooms were renovated and the room I was in was amazing. Large room, large shower, very spacious room. The receptionists are amazing in service and smile, very helpful. The hotel itself is within walking distance of the palace and the Grand Cathedral. 5 minutes walk from the metro and taxi station. Breakfast is reasonable. A hotel I highly recommend.
Prior to staying at the hotel Mercure, I had been reading a lot of negative reviews, mainly because the hotel is undergoing refurbishment. I need to say, people are fussing over nothing. We were allocated a new room on the first floor, a bright, fresh room with lots of space. The hotel reception staff are courteous, friendly and helpful, particularly Michela, who was nothing but helpful in getting our boarding passes sorted out. Michela, you are an asset to the hotel!!. The hotel is in a great location and whenever we needed help with anything they were brilliant. Madrid is a city that captivates and this hotel helped considerably in making our stay pleasurable. Thank you hotel Mercure!!
Yes, there was major renovation going on but it did not disturb us & our room was spacious, newly decorated, clean & comfortable. Tea & coffee in room was a bonus! Staff were welcoming and helpful & we enjoyed the breakfast. The hotel is handy for the Metro but most of the historic city was within walking distance. We look forward to visiting again when the work is finished.
During my stay the renovation of the hotel was still ongoing, but was disturbing at all. The room we stayed in was remodeled to a modern, but simple room. The room was clean, the breakfast was good and the staff helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel. Price-quality this hotel is a no brainer under 85 euros, including breakfast.
Hotel is being renewed and we were very surprised to find a "battlefield" in the reception when we arrived - this should have been mentioned during booking. Although reception staff mentioned it wouldn't be noisy in the room, we woke up in the next morning with a lot of noise. We were lucky we have booked just one night, as we were with our 2-year-old daughter. Room was completely new and very clean, but unfortunately bad service level erased that. Reception staff in general were very unfriendly and they did not even try to be nice. We have payed for late check out at 17 p.m., and when we went back from lunch, our room was locked - we went through reception and nobody even mentioned that, we had to ask room maid to open for us. As our flight was late at night we have asked to stay till 18 p.m. to avoid staying with a toddler too many hours in the airport, and reception staff just agreed after a very contempt face, saying he couldn't do more because hotel was full (althought we just saw very feel guests walking around). He could have been nice knowing the hotel was more like a war zone with all the construction works. Even if he hadn't accepted that, he could have been nice and said in a better way - after all, it's his job. After that, we were so mad that we have decided to leave at 17 p.m. I do not recommend the hotel, specially with family.
The hotel is currently undergoing renovation so it may be better afterwards, but currently, the place should be shut down - the hallways, lifts, reception and breakfast area are covered in dust. I'm surprised they are allowed to serve breakfast in such an environment. There is dust and debris all over the floor, and dust all over the counters. The room was nice - I'm guessing one of the refurbished ones, but a huge amount of dust in the air and the smell of construction work - not great to sleep in. I wasn't informed of the construction work when I booked so glad this was just a business trip for one night. Although for a price of EUR 185, I would have expected better. I honestly don't believe this place should be open given the amount of work it's undergoing. To add to that I was woken up by a call from reception at 6am even though I hadn't asked for one - there went my lie in. I asked for an iron at around 6pm, called again the following morning to say I still hadn't received it, and was told I'd have to wait until 9am (because there were no staff to bring it to me), or that I would have to come and get it myself - not the kind of service you would expect for the price! Employ more staff!!! Overall not a pleasant experience at all and wouldn't stay here again.
We stayed for 4 nights in early May 2017. The hotel is still under renovation. I asked for a high floor room with a view and informed the hotel via email that the trip was a surprise birthday trip for my partner. We got a room on the 5th floor but the windows were locked and covered in film 'frosting' out any view but allowing in sunlight. There were some amenities in the room including hairdryer, the usual coffee making facilities, free safe, TV and minibar, etc. We asked for a change to a room with a window you could actually see out of... but were told there were none available due to the building work and all rooms were the same. This was understandable but we didn't know this when we booked. The room was large, modern and with a comfy bed and good bath/shower and was cleaned well every day. From day 2 the stairwell to the ground floor was blocked off for building work meaning often a long wait for the only lift in operation in the hotel. Drilling and banging started from 8am every morning. The continental breakfast selection was good. All of the staff we met were friendly and helpful. We had a minor complaint when we left but this was resolved very quickly and professionally which was impressive. The place is also central; only a couple of minutes walk to Plaza de España. When the renovation work is complete I'm sure the place will be great. We would stay again but only when the building work is over. We'd never visited Madrid before but it really is a fantastic city full of culture and spirit and we were made to feel very welcome, so thank you!
We stayed at the hotel between the 8-10 May 2017. While the room was clean and comfortable (no doubt due to the recent renovation work) we were not expecting the hotel to resemble a building site. We booked the room through Hotels.com where there was no mention of ongoing renovation work. We also checked the hotels own website where it clearly states "The hotel features 97 spacious and bright rooms with a modern design, which were RENOVATED in 2017." Nowhere can we see any mention of ongoing and extensive works taking place. On arrival work was ongoing at the entrance to the hotel, the entrance later moved to the side door. Breakfast on the first morning was situated either in the lobby (where on going building work was taking place) or a cramped side room. The following day breakfast was moved to its presumed new location (still not completed). Using the stairs to get to and from the room, meant passing through poorly lit landings with exposed wires hanging down (probably not live but still unacceptable). There appeared to be only one working lift and many of the public areas had incomplete decoration. At no time when checking in or leaving was there any mention of the building works or apologies made. Had we known the building works were in progress, and the extent of them, we probably would not have booked to stay at this hotel. As it was, with only a two night stop in Madrid, we did not want to go to the hassle of finding alternative accommodation and the loss of money already spent on the hotel. Madrid is a lovely city, just a shame that the state of the hotel impacted our stay. Since our return we have emailed the hotel manager directly and also contacted the Accor group and have heard nothing. Visit Madrid, it's a great city! One lesson we have learnt is that on checking reviews if you see any mention of building work in the last six months avoid it like the plague.
The hotel is being repaired, in reconstruction, so is full of dust. Is very insecure, no emergency exit, etc. The breakfast is poor, only boiled eggs, no crumble, or other type of preparations. I recommend to close until it is finished.
We Just had 3 nights at this hotel with 2 other couples . Yes the building work is still on going .but it really didn't effect us other than having to wait for the lift stairwell has no exit at the bottom. The newly refurbished rooms are 1st class the beds are really comfortable. And Rooms kept spotlessly clean. Coffee machine in room.free safe .fridge with complimentary water and soft drinks nice touch..air conditioning one of the best we've had . Slippers and bath robes the wife used them .toiletries also provided . Good continental breakfast on offer. It's a shame the bar was not open yet. Hotel is in a excellent position. All staff very friendly and helpful When this hotel is finished i think it will be a top hotel. Finally the open top bus is a fantastic way of getting round madrid 25€ for two days
