The room was clean, comfortable, and the staff was really amazing and helpful. I asked for some hot water and they immediately offered to take an electric kettle to my room. They were extremely accommodating and allowed me to check out a bit later as my flight was in the evening. Overall, had a great experience. The main important points about my stay - really great staff and location.
Great central location. You can basically walk anywhere or quickly get the metro or a taxi. Located in a nice neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants. Nice hotel and rooms. Great deal for the price I paid. Highly recommended!
Loved the central location. Just a couple minutes walk from Sol, Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace. 20 minutes walk to the Prado. We stayed for 3 nights here, and had a lovely view of the street. Good air conditioning and modern Windows that kept most of the street noise out if you wanted it to.
At first I thought, What have I done? No sign over front door, and no reception area on ground floor Lights in entry way and hallways are motion-sensor triggered and take a couple seconds to come on. Feels like a private apartment building. However, the nervousness disappeared upon checking in upstairs. Friendly front desk staff, and room cleanup added some nice touches (organized my toiletries.) Hardly saw anyone else in the place, so the computer in the 2nd floor common area seemed like my own personal PC. Fast and reliable. Great location just steps from the Opera Metro Station in a busy area with places to eat and people watch. Short walk to Palace.
Second time in Madrid and at Hostal Oriente Madrid. Quiet rooms and staff very friendly, close to the Real Palace, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Gran Via, etc. Me and my wife enjoyed been there.
The hotel it's situated just in front of the opera anf few steps from puerta del sol, inexpensive and really good hotel!!!

The location could not have been better, as the hotel is set in the heart of Madrid's main tourist spots, an easy walk to the cathedral, the palace, and the Prado, etc., etc.; and this is a closed pedestrian street full of eateries and shopping. The Spaniards were all so nice and friendly. I had been told all of these things but was still shocked at how very wonderful the experience was. Wish that my trip had been for a longer period of time.
The location and proximity to Puerta del Sol was great. Room facing the street can only be described as noisy; we were tired and able to sleep with earplugs. Staff was helpful and took pride in their establishment.
I was my first time at a hostel and I have to say it was great! It's seriously close to everything you want to see! It's right in the center of the city! Only problem is that the check in time is at noon and my flight got in around 9 so I was there at 10 and had to leave my bags and go out to lunch and walk around so I was scared of leaving them there (I dont know why, just was) but it's cool. the lights and power in the room are operated by your key card to the room so you can't charge anything while you are out. Only problem: thin walls, you can hear muffled conversations and intimate moments haha
Hostal is minutes away from major attractions and it's located right across the Metro station. The room is very clean and staff is friendly. My single room is a bit small but for the price I can't complain much.
Very convenient to everything....Metro, buses, shopping, attractions, restaurants, and all. Didn't have to worry about my kid joining the club crawl 'til 5am.
Great location near the subway and the Opera building. Minutes from most of the downtown attractions. Friendly staff. Clean and cool (air conditioning in the room - a must in 100 degree weather). An added plus internet and wifi. Highly recommended.
Hostal Oriente is amazing. It's in a central location in downtown Madrid (Opera), near many subway stops and walkable to many sights. I got a single room with my own bathroom, and it was really affordable. I have never had a hostel as nice or as clean as this! And free wifi!
This hotel is right in the middle of everything! The location can't be beat. The national palace, cathedral, playa mayor, zona de huertas (restaurants, bars and clubs) are all within walking distance. Reception and all the rooms are on the second floor as there are other offices and residences in the building. The clerks speak little to no english, but not much is needed to check in and out. They have power outlet adapters behind the counter for free so ask for one. Now the bad part...the room is the smallest hotel room I have seen or stayed in, ever. There is a twin bed, a small night table, a tiny desk, a little flat screen TV, and a bathroom that barely fits one person. The shower is so small you can't reach down to touch your feet. The closet was tight although it was big enough to fit my suitcase in sideways and had enough room to hang a couple items. The room was about 5 feet wide and 10 feet long. Also note that parking is tough to find in the area and the streets are not clearly marked with parking rules. It's better to park in the nearby underground lot although it will cost you almost 30 euros per day. Despite the size of the room, I enjoyed my stay. It's a great price for the location. If you are traveling alone as I was and the room size doesn't matter to you it's a steal. I definitely recommend Hostal Oriente!
The Hostal Oriente office is on the first floor (not ground floor). My room was a single. It was small but efficient and very clean. The staff do not all speak English, but they understand pointing at a map. Free WIFI for all rooms and also free internet on second floor lobby.
The hotel, Hostal Oriente, is located on Calle de Arenal near Opera Metro stop, a great location near Sol and shopping as well as walkable distance to the Prado. While the price was very reasonable for the location and the room was fine, it was a different from a regular hotel visit in that there was no front desk on the ground floor: we were buzzed into the building and went up a floor to a reception area, then our room was up another floor, almost like an apartment. Not a problem, just a bit impersonal compared to places we'd stayed earlier on our trip.
If you are looking for bang for your buck, this is it. Young guy at the front desk really nice guy, very helpful. Not a glamorous hotel by any means but sufficient. I would stay there again. The view from our room was aweful but this seemed to be a common thread throughout Spain. For some reason there was a lot of 'door slamming' going on!! Great water pressure and lots of hot water. no real complaints!
Friendly hotel personnel. Beautifully decorated although rooms are very small. I think cozy. Comes with free internet - a big plus. Great location. Great price. Would stay again.
