Due to a mistake from the website I booked it, I found myself in the Pavillion instead of the Palace, which was not a nice start to my visit in Luxor. But that's not the hotels mistake. Though they really couldn't help me move from one to the other, as those two are 2 separate hotels with shared facilities. But the Pavillion is not worthy of the Sofitel brand. Rooms are big and comfortable, but no decoration, no amenities, only had 2 big towels, no hand towel, no bathrobes, no slippers,... Nothing is provided and I've asked for a few things at least 3 times, and it was still not delivered. The room was super noisy due to the ambient street noise. Breakfast was OK, but I found the choice very limited compared to what i'm used in f.e. a NOVOTEL! Only powder orange juice, really not tasty in the morning. Big plus is the ground of the hotel with it's gardens and swimming pool, that's the only "winter palace" experience you get from staying at the pavillion, but if I knew it was going to be the Pavillion I would have stayed with my first choice: Steigenberger Nile Palace. That's truely an amasing hotel in Luxor!

Very Nice hotel, in a fantastic place and atmosphere. The staff is very friendly, good food and drinks, but it could be even better if they would be more carefully about some details. Some furniture and, sometimes, the shower , need to be fixed, and a little more cleaning in the rooms and outside would be appreciable.

This is a great hotel if you love charm + history connections making this the oldest hotel in Luxor and privy to much of the magic and mystey that Egypt holds from TUTANKHAMUN to Agatha Christie. I have stayed in both hotes and highly recommend the Pavillion if Winter Palace is booked. TIP- use your ACCOR membership to receive fiscoint on 5 day stays or more! I love the charm of this hotel and outstanding period interiors.

This was yet another fantastic visit to Luxor, staying once again at the Pavillon Winter Palace. From the moment we arrived it was like coming home, remembered and welcomed by everyone. All the staff where exceptional as always but once again special mention should go to Mr Altyb for the outstanding service that he and his staff give in the breakfast restaurant. Sally at the front desk was very helpful in making our travel arrangements for us, and Mrs Wessam Farah as usual goes above and beyond in her friendly advise on shopping trips and sight seeing and also tours around the wonderful Old Winter Palace. This was our first time to Egypt in December and as you might expect it was much cooler than our usual period (April/August) long trousers and light jumpers where needed a few early morning's and late evenings, however during the day shorts and t-shirts where still fine. The pool was heated to a perfect temp although if a breeze was blowing it was a bit chilly when you got out however the great guys at the pool will give you extra towels to rap up in.

The grounds and gardens are fab. The service is promote and efficient. The staff are friendly. The hotel is clean and the food is delicious. The pool is heated and clean. It was a wonderful experience. However, no gym or spa😔.

Did I arrive in a Winter Paradise or at the Winter Palace in early December? The difference is sometimes hard to find. I can go on all day about the facilities and amenities offered by this great hotel, both the Winter Pavillon and the Winter Palace. The stunning gardens, the enviable location, the first class security or the good value rooms, all under the watchful but discreet eye of Mr Nabil Ali and team. But a good hotel, sorry a great hotel is surely more than the sum of its facilities. You see it's all about ambience. Meet a German Egyptologist at the ample buffet breakfast who knows a thousand Egyptian hieroglyphics and talk about the 'Neuen ausgrabungen' on the west bank, talk to a famous Irish doctor while enjoying your morning stroll in the fabulous gardens,or look out for a Suzie Wong look-alike wandering the hotel in total awe. And so on to the main building that beacon of divine Victorian elegance, that place where the old English Diva meets her passionate Egyptian lover, their warm embrace now sprinkled with delicate French kisses- courtesy of the Sofitel group of luxury hotels. Take dinner in the Corniche restaurant or better still in the 1886,.Dare to ask Mohammed the chef for your favourite potatoes, mine Pommes Duchesse and ladies fall into the eyes of Mohammed the waiter when he so carefully takes your order-or gentlemen,if you will. Chat to Mr Rashid of his twenty years experience here, rub shoulders with an Oil Sheikh,or just marvel at the great halls studded with antiques. I have wasted the last three years trying other, lesser hotels in this ancient capital-my last posting on these pages being in 2014, but sadly nothing comes close. They are all but a facsimile,so you see dear reader, the choice is yours. The real thing or a cheap copy. So Monday it's back to Brexit, Boris Johnson and Theresa May and snow so maybe it's not goodbye after all but aurevoir or as one Californian governor once said " Hasta la vista, baby!" Jeffrey Powell and Lutz Henning Schmidt winter 2017 PS, Better still, join the Accor group's loyalty program, collect points and get free nights. I stay at the Winter Palace at least twice a year and every time it gets better and better. The staff are friendly and professional welcoming you as an old friend, the rooms are great, the pool fantastic and there is just the right balance of formality and relaxation to make the visit very special. It has the best location as you can get easily to all the sites and never feel cut off as in some of the other 'resort' hotels and it' has a feeling of both old world charm and modern sophistication. I cannot recommend it highly enough

After spending 5 yearly visits to the Winter Palace,I decided too try the Pavillon Winter Hotel after reading reviews on TripAdvisor, both good and bad,so I booked a 25 night stay,so that I could write my own review. The Pavillon Winter Hotel is located on the same beautiful landscaped grounds and pool,as the Winter Palace. All facilities are opened to all guests of both hotels, including the large pool and restaurants. The hotel staff from both hotels are friendly, polite and always greet you with Hello, and are willing too help with anything you might need and you are treated like a VIP. Special Thank You to all the staff at both hotels, especially Mr.Ahmed and Mr.Shawer, for for the surprise upgrade to the top floor rm.5020 suite which was wonderful and overlooked the pool and gardens. From Montleb and Sally(desk clerks),Hofny,Tarek, and Fatma(cleaning crew),Elaria(Guest Relations,Palace) to Rahman and Mamdouh(Pool Supers)for keeping the pool 24m x16m,and 1m-3m deep sparkling clean and inviting, that I swam every day. Like other reviews, the hotel needs renovation to upgrade the standards of a Sofitel hotel, which I was informed by the manager that renovations will begin at both Hotels late 2018.

Great value for a great hotel and professional and outstanding staff!!! Let me mention Mahmoud from reception staff and all pool restaurant staff!! Really felt very wellcome here...!! Just loved to have breakfast in the old Sofitel building... Also the manager offered me a date jam to take home...!! Will return for sure...!! Pls keep that way for the good of tourism in Egypt...!! Really enjoy Egypt for my holidays!!!

Our stay in the Pavillon this year was for 4 weeks and I have to say that since we have been coming here (1993) it was the best time we have had. It is very difficult to single out particular members of staff because in our eyes they are all 10 STAR. Our room was always clean and tidy, and on arrival there was a spectacular display of flowers on our bed with the message "Welcome Home". It is things like this that make a holiday. We always ate breakfast in the Pavillon restaurant as we have known all the staff their for years. The Manager Mohamed El Tayb is always very welcoming, and indeed we have perpetuated the greeting of the late Sir Bruce Forsyth "Nice to see you, To see you nice". All the English guests understood it well, and each morning we had a really good laugh! His deputy, Rashidi is always so courteous and their is nothing too much trouble for him. With the departure of Chef Nasser to the Old Winter Restaurant, we were well looked after by Chef Abdul Kamel who without doubt makes the most delicious omelettes you will ever taste. The pool attendants with Abdul in charge all work so very hard to make your stay by the pool as welcoming as possible often under very difficult circumstances. The waiters at the pool restaurant are always so obliging and helpful which makes a day by the pool the next best thing to Heaven. In our dealings with the management, we have always found Mr. Nabil, Madame Randa and Madame Wesaam and all their staff to be very helpful. The new General Manager, Mr Selim Shawer is very approachable, and in our view has made a number of excellent changes in his recruitment of younger staff who all speak excellent English. Numbers of guests at the Hotel are improving and there is a "buzz" about the place, which we feel shows that the Winter Palace complex is "ON THE UP".
