My first day there, the guy at the front desk asked me to let him practice the new credit card reader with my visa. I said no and when I came back later that evening, he and his cohort asked me again. There were no charges on my cc, but I'm a guest at the hotel. not an assistant. I don't want to be bothered. The hotel is clean, but there are ants in the bathroom. On my third day, other guests and I witnessed a case of domestic violence in the kitchen. This part bothered me the most. Their kitchen area is separate from the hotel and is at the back corner of the lot. Their free rental bikes are kept by the kitchen. When I went to use the bike, I saw that the front desk man was arguing with a woman. I asked to take the bike and he said ok politely. When he thought I was gone, he continued to argue with a woman, and lunged at her and beat her. There was a small child in the kitchen, he was not hurt, but he was crying. She cried out and screamed. The other guests and I did not know what to do. We stared at each other. I was scared and wasn't sure what to do. I feel that violence should not be tolerated. The front desk guy was usually not at the front desk. The other guests and I would joke that we should bring pillows to nap while we wait for him. On my last day, I requested airport transfer, because my stay includes airport transfer. When I was dropped off, the hotel asked for payment and refused to acknowledge what my reservation covers.

I absolutely loved Villa Ban Phanluang. My first impression wasn't the best- I am a very quiet person by nature and cannot rest when there is noise. Well, I won't lie, the place is loud in the afternoon. The owner, Ben, and his wife have a very young son who plays in the check-in area on a rolling walker. I thought I wouldn't be able to sleep. However, at around 6:00pm, the place becomes so calm and so zen and just so perfect. I slept like a baby for all four nights was there. Housekeeping cleaned my room and made my bed daily, and they did an excellent job. I actually lost several small items during my stay, and housekeeping always found them and left them sitting in my room, so I know they clean well. Also, the bed was incredibly comfortable and huge for this solo traveler. I loved the bathtub, and the water was always hot. The shower has excellent water pressure, which seems so rare in SE Asia. There is an extensive breakfast menu (included in your room price!!!! And breakfast is cooked-to-order daily. The walk across the bamboo bridge really added to the experience for me, so I didn't mind staying a bit far from town. Please keep in mind that the walk could be a bit difficult if you have joint problems or are disabled at all. There are a lot of stairs. I believe Ben offers a shuttle for those with mobility issues. Finally, I would like to praise Ben, the owner of the guesthouse. I had a motorbike accident while in Luang Prabang. He took time out of his day to help me
