We just spent two days out of a planned 3 day stay at this revolting hotel. It is nothing as shown online and is extremely dated. Our room had 3 spiders in two days, all of which were still on the wall from being squashed despite the room being 'cleaned'. Our sheets were full of little black bugs and were riddled with holes. The wallpaper was peeling - quite badly in places - the carpet is thread bare and the whole establishment has an odour to it. Half of the lights in our room didn't work and the the bathroom vanity had the hot/cold water tap in the opposite position to the one in the bath/shower - a nice scolding to my daughters hands. I complained on arrival and wasn't relocated to another room. Disgusted. On our second morning the cleaning 'man' knocked once and walked in to our room - whilst we were getting dressed. Even more disgusted. The walls are paper thin and you can hear other guests which included toileting and other bedroom activities. I feel like vomiting now! The breakfast was a joke - days old croissants and cake greeted us on day 1 and the following morning was just as bad. The front desk receptionist that took our key on check out was a rude and abrupt woman who couldn't have cared less how we felt - she should not be working in any job with any customer service required. This hotel will prove themselves - they will either admit their fault and refund our money or continue to dupe future guests. They should be ashamed of their behaviour, particularly in a place like Lourdes. In any case I certainly hope anyone considering this hotel reads these reviews first.
The most beautiful Hotel in the Pyrenees Mountains with closest proximity to the Grotto of Lourdes and the Sanctuaries....The Front office Manager - Mr. Nicolas was very kind and hospitable. He made sure that all our needs were catered to and that we were absolutely comfortable during our 8 days stay. The Housekeeping girls were very efficient...The Hotel is situated at the gates of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes....Will Surely return to Excelsior...Best regards, Darryl Rebeiro
Stayed here with 2 friends on a stop over from a hiking trip in the Pyrenees. Staff were fantastic - very friendly and helpful. They happily stored bags for us for 5 days while we were hiking. Rooms were slightly old fashioned, but that didn't bother us at all (I have seen some people's reviews highlight this as a huge issue, and it really isn't). Free wifi available in the lobby, 2 minute walk from the santuary. Suited us perfectly for what we wanted. Also...fantastic view of the castle and river from our room.
If you are interested in caring and excellent service this is the place to be. They treat you like family. I spent 2 weeks at this hotel and found the experience to be the best I have received in my world travels. From the front desk to the restaurant and concierge. All excellent. I had an unexpected health issue and they went beyond the call of duty at no extra expense. A rarity in my travels. Further, they were very accommodating to my special diet needs, again without charging extra. Yes, it is an older hotel but very clean. After a short while I didn't notice the carpets or other older features which are mentioned in other reviews because of the service. This hotel was chosen by my tour group leader but I intend to recommend this to my friends and stay here on my return visits. Jane from Chicago, IL USA
The situation of the hotel is perfect. But, this is really not a 3 stars. Maybe 1 star. Dirty old rooms (we've changed our room after 1 day). So poor breakfast, and you can't choose your place in the restaurant (you're assigned to a table -we changed it every morning, because we received a small table against the wall- and the staff is very angry when you do so) Staff at the reception is friendly and helpfull. Have a look at the kitchen when you went to the garage: dirty and not hygienic. Nicolas
Basic but very adequate hotel. Ideally situated for shops and grotto. Staff very accomodating and helpful. Breakfast was very nice continental style. Nice bar area to sit and have a drink. Rooms were cleaned daily and looked after. The hotel is very dated but thats what makes it appealing and they have kept all original features and maintained the character to be in line with the history that pilgrims go to lourdes for.
Stayed here again after 3 years, not much changed, Nicolas and reception as good as before, waiting staff much better, Ate here lunch and evening meals, perfectly adequate. Room was clean and made up every day, bathroom entirely acceptable, so no complaints, very handy for the entrance to the Sanctuaries. If you go looking for a reasonable budget hotel it is fine. Would definitely stay again. Yes some areas a bit "tired" but good budget hotel.
I recently stayed here for a week with a small group I was leading! The location couldn't have been better! We all loved the incredible basilica views! The staff treated us like family - Nicholas and Karine couldn't have been nicer or more helpful! Dinner each evening there was a delicious feast! Everyone in my group wants to come back! So, See you next spring!
Well, w estayed here for about 2 days on June 1st..the staff were very courteous But the rooms were not well maintained with the unclean upholstery and the floor carpet in the washroom was stinking..This was in the case of a few rooms on our Floor..However the staff at the restaurant and the food was very good...
When we go to Lourdes we don't often look for luxury as it isn't the most relaxing holiday, but we don't like to rough it either! It was very misleading as the photographs online made it look fantastic and new, but when we got there it was totally run down. There were cobwebs and dust everywhere, along with an old smell of must. The bedroom door wasn't exactly the safest and anyone could've walked in regardless of it being locked. Poor facilities along with very run down furniture. The only good things were some of the staff, particularly the porter from Paisley who tried to make us feel at home and cater to our needs and the fact that it was close to St. Michael's gate. However I wouldn't stay here again, as much as I tried to like it as I was in the most amazing place ever I just couldn't.
