The staff is great, very helpful with directions and very friendly. The rooms are very clean and the bed and pillows are very comfortable. It is easy to walk to restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. You feel safe walking around. It’s only two blocks to the bus stop, for the free bus ride to more attractions. I would stay here again.

This hotel is a unique gem! In a historic 1920s building, its rooms truly are like those one finds in many European hotels (as the Varden website describes). They are smaller than the typical room in a chain hotel, but I've stayed in similar sized rooms in upscale hotels in NYC (i.e. the Kimpton Muse). My room at the Varden was beautiful and clean, with compact, neatly designed features and amenities to allow for a comfortable stay. The staff was welcoming, warm, and accommodating from the minute I walked in after a long drive. No elevator in this old building, but plenty of staff offers to carry my bags up and down the stairs. Parking is beside the hotel in a private lot for $12/night, and when I asked if I could pay to keep my car there after checkout because my conference would not be done until late afternoon, I was told "Of course you can! You don't need to pay extra!" Morning breakfast in lobby offered wide assortment of coffees, teas, and juice, as well as simple pastries -- perfect quick start to long days at a conference. The location allowed me a nice 15-minute walk to the Convention Center and easy access to a wide variety of restaurants. Perfect hotel for my 2-night stay in Long Beach! Would stay again!

I had a surprisingly great stay. The hotel was just 10 mins from long beach airport. And the hotel was also was just a 3 mins walking distance to an anytime fitness and a golds gym. ...and just a block from light rail stop.

Very nice surprise! Hotel is great and the staff are very professional. Room was clean. Highly recommend!

Convenient downtown location and next to Light Rail Station. Walking distance to restaurants. Tiny room, but great for single on business trip. USB and plenty of outlets.

Amazing place, very nice joint. Me likeee long time

This hotel is a great place to stay in downtown Longbeach. It is within walking distance to all the local attractions. The hotel rooms are clean and cozy and the service from the staff is beyond excellent.

I stayed in a single double bed room. The room was quite small but very well appointed and the bed was as comfortable as I have ever had in any hotel. My room did not have a view, but as I was there on business that was not important to me at all . The staff was exceedingly helpful. The owners have done a wonderful job of keeping the 1920s beach hotel look and feel. I highly recommend this hotel.

Only there for one night. Very helpful staff and comfortable

Fantastic location. Great base from which to explore the city. A clean, functional hotel room with a comfortable bed, a good shower, and great WiFi.

Very nice retro style hotel and a very friendly staff.

The staff of this hotel are exceptionally nice. I travel a lot for business and haven't encountered this level of hospitality elsewhere. The only drawback of this hotel is the size of the rooms. It's hard to even turn around in the shower or use the sink they are so small, but for this price and location, I cannot complain!

Great location, very friendly staff. Rooms are a bit small but perfect for a short stay.

Was GREAT. Clean, very affordable, great friendly staff, centrally located

The staff was excellent and very hospitable. I was in town for the Jet Blue Long Beach Marathon and I was able to get enough rest before my early morning call time. I enjoyed the complimentary coffee, tea, and water, as well as their complimentary American breakfast each morning. The hotel also offers a happy hour which provides wine and snacks near the lobby.

This little hotel is spotlessly clean, newly renovated and a fantastic choice in this price class. The rooms are small, no frills, but very stylishly renovated. No closet but rack that does the job. The bed and bedding feel like sleeping inside a marshmallow. The best part was the staff. It's been a long time since I've stayed in a hotel where the staff was so helpful and attentive in a genuine way. Not often I walk away from a stay and think that was a great customer experience. The Varden was all of that and more.

Great hotel - very clean with small rooms. Nearby Golds Gym - was nice to walk to gym. Gym fee is $10.

We spent just one night here and were delighted by the small but very ergonomic room. We were impressed at the spotless bathroom and easy and close access to amenities offered in the living room. Could not have asked for a more comfortable bed. Would definitely consider staying again.

A super petit boutique hotel. Probably 9x9x9 ft . Very clean and great service. Very confortable bed. However the room is very small and limited. Awkward size of vanity sink and mirror. Too small of a table for laptop or to use as working table. Wifi will require login every time the phone or laptop restart from sleep mode. Signal strength should have been better.
