I stayed in a single double bed room. The room was quite small but very well appointed and the bed was as comfortable as I have ever had in any hotel. My room did not have a view, but as I was there on business that was not important to me at all . The staff was exceedingly helpful. The owners have done a wonderful job of keeping the 1920s beach hotel look and feel. I highly recommend this hotel.

Only there for one night. Very helpful staff and comfortable

Fantastic location. Great base from which to explore the city. A clean, functional hotel room with a comfortable bed, a good shower, and great WiFi.

Very nice retro style hotel and a very friendly staff.

The staff of this hotel are exceptionally nice. I travel a lot for business and haven't encountered this level of hospitality elsewhere. The only drawback of this hotel is the size of the rooms. It's hard to even turn around in the shower or use the sink they are so small, but for this price and location, I cannot complain!

Great location, very friendly staff. Rooms are a bit small but perfect for a short stay.

Was GREAT. Clean, very affordable, great friendly staff, centrally located

The staff was excellent and very hospitable. I was in town for the Jet Blue Long Beach Marathon and I was able to get enough rest before my early morning call time. I enjoyed the complimentary coffee, tea, and water, as well as their complimentary American breakfast each morning. The hotel also offers a happy hour which provides wine and snacks near the lobby.

This little hotel is spotlessly clean, newly renovated and a fantastic choice in this price class. The rooms are small, no frills, but very stylishly renovated. No closet but rack that does the job. The bed and bedding feel like sleeping inside a marshmallow. The best part was the staff. It's been a long time since I've stayed in a hotel where the staff was so helpful and attentive in a genuine way. Not often I walk away from a stay and think that was a great customer experience. The Varden was all of that and more.

Great hotel - very clean with small rooms. Nearby Golds Gym - was nice to walk to gym. Gym fee is $10.

We spent just one night here and were delighted by the small but very ergonomic room. We were impressed at the spotless bathroom and easy and close access to amenities offered in the living room. Could not have asked for a more comfortable bed. Would definitely consider staying again.

A super petit boutique hotel. Probably 9x9x9 ft . Very clean and great service. Very confortable bed. However the room is very small and limited. Awkward size of vanity sink and mirror. Too small of a table for laptop or to use as working table. Wifi will require login every time the phone or laptop restart from sleep mode. Signal strength should have been better.

This was a very nice hotel. The room was a little small and the lack of a closet was inconvenient. However, the staff was quite friendly and helpful. Since I was traveling by myself, the room was adequate. The breakfast was adequate, but the wine and cheese in the evening was a nice touch.

Everyone was so accommodating - making sure I had coffee, water, etc. Very fun boutique hotel - I love this type of place in a big city - unique, clean and staff was exceptional.

The Varden doesn't look like much on the outside, but don't judge a book by its cover, right? The inside is really nice & clean, the staff is super helpful & the continental breakfast/wine hour was a nice touch. However, for what I paid...the room was very small with a double bed, there is no closet & there is a tiny sink at the foot of the bed. I'm pretty sure what used to be a closet was converted to the bathroom with shower/toilet. Regardless, it's a nice room...just really small! It was fine for what my boyfriend and I needed it for, but I don't think I would have wanted to stay much more than a night or two. Bags would get in the way, you wouldn't be able to hang much & with no where to set toiletries, your room would be bound to get cluttered. It had a nice location with easy walking to the aquarium, waterfront, Pine Street with lots of restaurants/bars, etc.

Very nice hotel, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a very nice look and has everything you might need. I don't have a problem with the small showers/sinks per se, but I do think the bathroom is the only thing that would change this into a 5-star rating for me. Because the shower has a curtain and not a sliding door, it is indeed impossible as you shower not to have a lot of water get onto the bathroom floor, without any way to get it out of there. Also, the curtain tends to fly all over the place when you shower - a slim sliding door would solve all that. I would also install a fan in the bathroom for proper ventilation. Otherwise, excellent hotel in a great location in Long Beach.

From the very attentive staff to the complimentary wine tasting in the early evening, the Varden Hotel was a great find for a nice get away. Although the room was small and a bit unconventional by American standards, they perfectly function for a restful break from the ordinary. Location is an easy walk to the heart of downtown Long Beach and the Metro Blue Line Stop. My wife and I enjoyed the sparse decor and appreciated the friendly staff. The Hotel Varden is highly recommended.

Personal touch was very nice. The concierge gave you all necessary info and escorted you to your room. Room was rather small but cozy and nice modern amenities. All said, I'd def stay again.

It's a small building with a private parking lot (~$10/night) and when you walk in, are instantly greeted by whoever is in the lobby. In our case the gentleman showed is to our room, up a flight of stairs and down a short hallway we enter the room and it couldn't have been more than 300 or 400 square ft. And everything was very white and very clean; super modern/simplistic feeling. The bathroom is partitioned off by a giant sliding mirror and there is a storage space as well as a laundry drawer under the full sized bed and also a rod for hanging up any clothing. There was free wifi and tv (with HBO I believe) and it was a very cozy place to stay for two people to stay two nights. The gentlemen who had different shifts at the front desk were extremely courteous and helpful; offering suggestions for places of interest nearby, and directions and accommodating our needs within the hotel. (There was complimentary breakfast, coffee and wine tasting, although we didn't partake) the place is within walking distance of many of large Long Beach touristy attractions and is not getting 5 starts only because the bathroom shower was very claustrophobic and the floor became very slick when wet, maybe some floor mats would be helpful...

Great staff - they were very helpful when we had trouble getting a rental car very late at night. They also went out of their way to make sure the complementary breakfast and coffee items were to our liking. Our hotel room was comfortable and stylish but very tiny. It was fine for our quick trip but wouldn't be ideal for a longer trip with a lot of luggage.
