A very smart hotel right in the centre of Lisse – lots of shops and places to eat nearby. If you visit in the spring this is perfectly placed to enjoy the Kugelhof Gardens and see all the bulbs. Free WIFI and very helpful staff. We had a double room on the first floor which was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Breakfast consisted of cold meats, cheese etc. scrambled egg, bacon, yoghurt, fresh fruit, rolls, bread …. Delicious. We were a group of 35 musicians and found the staff very helpful and accommodating to our requests of leaving instruments and luggage in the locked room. Yes we would definitely return - its lovely.
The hotel is situated in an alleyway between a car park and the high street. No problems parking. All the staff we spoke to were pleasant and welcoming. We stayed in one of the 'Senior Suites', with a living area/kitchen separated from the bedroom and bathroom by a set of stairs. The bathroom was clean and relatively modern and the twin beds and linen were clean and fresh. What really let this room down was the shabby furniture in the living area which was tired, a little stained and dusty. The sofa is actually a bed settee, although the room is only advertised for 2 people. I opened it up out of curiosity and the mattress was quite stained - maybe why it is only advertised for two. The black velvet chandelier was, well, interesting. I was a little surprised to see bare wires exposed in one of the plug sockets (see picture). We were disappointed that there was no tea/coffee/kettle provided.
We stayed at small economy room. But is was clean, has good beds and bathroom. Wifi was working and usable. Did not tak breakfast, but hotel is in town centre, so you can have your coffe elsewhere. Keukenhof (awesome place, where tulip exhibitions take place) is 10 min. walking. Hotel staff are polite and attentive. You can rent bike at the hotel.
The reason we opted to stay in Lisse was to be able to walk to tulip fields and Keukenhof early in the morning. Hotel De Duif served this purpose, the room is clean and comfortable for 3. It is just behind the cute town of Lisse for many restaurant options. It is about 5-10 minutes walk to Keukenhof. There are stairs to our room, must drag the luggage, but not big issue
I highly recommend this hotel. The hotel room was a two story accommodation. Downstairs was a kitchen living room combination. Upstairs was a bedroom/bathroom combination. Breakfast was fantastic. We chose this hotel because of its closeness to the Keukenhof Gardens which was our main reason to visit the town of Lisse. The only disadvantage was the lack of parking. We always found a place to park our car; however sometimes it was a challenge. Except for the parking issue, I would have given it a higher rating. The hotel staff were very friendly and cordial.
Location is about the only thing this hotel has going for it. Be prepared to drag your luggage up one or more flights of stairs. No elevator out room was very dark, black drapes and grey metallic walls. Another flight of stairs in the room was the bathroom access in our senior suite you are allowed one bath towel, a hand towel and soap. No other toiletries provided. To use the kitchen you had to horror from the restaurant. Buddy was $11 Euros
The Senior Suite was perfect for the family of 4, (2 young school age children). The bed upstairs made it seem like we were in a different room entirely, but also allowed my children to feel comfortable when sleeping. Parking was free in a small public lot in front of hotel. There was no designated parking but we had no trouble leaving and returning to find a space. The amount of places to eat within METERS of the Hotel is huge. There were so many different types of place and price ranges to eat. It is a perfect spot for the Keukenhof within easy walking distance. Super easy driving (30 min) into Amsterdam.
My daughter, granddaughter and I had a brief and pleasant stay at this hotel. We elected to stay there as it is located just a short walk from the Keukenhof Gardens. The hotel allocated what they describe as a senior suite which is on two levels and has a bedroom and bathroom upstairs and a kitchenette and living room downstairs which includes a sofa bed so can be used as a second bedroom. I mention this because if a family were intending to visit the gardens and stay at hotel de Duif booking a senior suite might be an economical option for the family.
My wife and I stayed at Hoel De Duif in April. Staff is friendly and location is good, especially Keukenhof. The hotel has bikes to rent, so no hassle compared to going to the Garden to rent. Ask for an updated or remodeled room. Ours was a little tired. No elevator.
The plus of this hotel is its walking (12-15 minutes) distance to the entrance of Keukenhof. That was the primary reason of our booking this hotel. Room: We rented the 'senior suite' which has a spacious sitting area and a small kitchen (range and refrigerator) on one floor and the bedroom, toilet/shower on the top floor. The stairs to the bedroom was quite narrow and steep. From the check-in area to the door of the room, one has to climb a good number of steps. So if you got heavy luggage, that can be a challenge because there is no elevator. There are no bellman or no other staff to help you. So you are really senior or with poor physical condition, you have to make sure that you book the right room. The pots/pans/utensils are not provided automatically. You have to ask the staff to send them to you. The fridge needs some defrosting. The indicator light of the range (electrical) heating elements do not function properly. The beds are reasonably comfortable. There is no central air conditioning. One has to hand dial (from 1-5) on the radiator heater to get heat in the room. So there is some trial and adjustment to get the right temperature. Staff: For most of the time, there is only one staff on duty, who will take care of everything from answering phones, to deliver cookware, etc. To be fair, this is B&B like small European small city hotel and one would not expect too much from the staff, although they are quite friendly and willing to be helpful. Food: The breakfast is not included in the room charge. The separate charge is 11.5 Euro per person. It offers scrambled eggs, bacon, cold cuts, yogurt, cheese, bread/pastry, and cereal/milk, and coffee. So it is a reasonable breakfast but not fancy. They also offer lunch boxes for one to spend a whole day in Keukenhof. So if cold cut /cheese sandwiches and fruit juices, snicker bars are ok for you, you can order ahead of time. There are a number of restaurants nearby for dinner and drinks. Internet/wifi: Provided free Parking: There is public parking spaces (not dedicated to the hotel guests) in front of the hotel but they are mostly occupied. The staff will tell you to go to other public parking spaces in the nearby alleys, which will take a few minutes to walk. So the parking is free but not as convenient as one might think. Overall, set your expectation to be a small town hotel. It is functional but not at the level which will satisfy a lot of needs like swimming pool and exercise rooms beyond the basics. During the spring tulip season, one may need to book at least a couple of months ahead.
