We stayed in a pool suite with sea view, which was worth the extra $. The view of the quiet harbor just beyond our private yard was lovely. The plunge pool was refreshing after a walk on the beach. The suite was large, stylish, and the bathroom lavishly appointed. The bedding was very comfy. The living room was very large. The three restaurants were excellent for dinner and the breakfast buffet was delicious with vast offerings. The large pool area was beautifully landscaped. We took the dawn nature walk with the ranger and learned a great deal about the local flora and fauna.
We were here for 3 days. We are a family of 3, our son is 6 years-old. While the resort was nice and affordable, I think the use of "luxury" is a bit far fetch. Here are the pro's and con's from my perspective: Pros: we had a pool access room. Essentially, there are 6 rooms sharing a communal plunge pool. This was nice and convenient. The room was also a nice size The Coral Nursery and the Young Marine Biologist program. It's great to see that the Andaman is actively giving back to the environment by cultivating the beautiful corals to be placed back into the ocean. Our son loved learning about the coral nursery and participating in the YMB program. He liked it so much that he wanted to enroll in the program again, but we ran out of time. The two restaurants, (the seafood and Malaysian) served up fantastic food. Very tasty and reasonable. The pool area was great, especially with the slide. This was a great hit for our son. The beach is very nice..soft sand and warm aqua waters. The only thing is there was something in the water that kept stinging myself and my son, and some other patrons. At times the stinging was quite painful. The complimentary photo session. It's nice to have a family picture taken by a professional at no charge. The Cons: The all day restaurant is a waste. The food was horrible and tasteless. We went there once for dinner, (because all the other restaurants don't open until 6:30 or 7 and we had a child who needed to eat earlier) and it was bland and horrible. Our waiter even tasted our food and admitted it was tasteless. We decided to give it another try for lunch, and to the same dismal result. The rooms were quite dark. While size wise it's decent, it was very dark, thus making us not want to be in the room. We found that a good majority of the staff could not communicate in English, which made it a big challenging.
Beautiful panoramic and nice landscape surrounding the resort. Even a bit far from the airport but the journey to the resort is very peace. the best to relax and very nice food. the staff is very professional especially Mr Razif, miss his cocktail will come again because of him sawal ( his staff)
Another visit to this wonderful hotel, fantastic location set on a great beach only shared with the Datai hotel. The service and the food is excellent in all 4 restaurants, my favourite would be the fish restaurant, the view in the evening is stunning. The rooms are of high standard with great showers, and King size beds. The beach is wonderful for walking nice and flat and the sea clear. look forward to my next visit.
Great hotel with fantastic F&B offerings. About 40 Mins away from the airport. Ideal location for couples or even a single business trip. The pool is decent and also a great hang out area to catch the sunset.
We liked the location at the Datai bay and nestled in the rainforest. The spa is great, you hear all the sounds of the animals while having a massage outside in a bungalow overlooking the bay. The hotel has several restaurants, we liked the malaysian food in the beach restaurant the best.
A wonderful place to relax! The hotel is located in a forest with lots of moneys and squirrels and facing the ocean. At night we sleep with the sound of the wave. The air is so fresh. It is our second day here. We enjoy the private beach which is very clean and well maintained. The beach towel is so clean. Wifi covers all areas with good connection. The service we didn't expect is the staff serving everyone with a cold face towel smell of Lemon grass during the hottest hour-2pm, followed by a glass of ice water. I was very satisfied. The hotel also offers many activities which are free. E.g jungle walk, snorkeling, etc. we did kayaking which is so fun. The nicest thing is not so many people around because it is a private beach. The buffet breakfast is also very good- international buffet, also having champagne and Bloody Mary free flow for free. The rooms are clean. Shower room is big. All towels and bed linen are very clean. Our room faces the ocean also. We really enjoy our stay here. Everything is good here so it worth the price.
The setting in Datai Bay is one of the most beaitful we've ever been to - and we travel a lot. Pristine, idyllic paradise. No loud motor boats, no trash, no hawkers on the beach - just an incredible view, soft sand, and the sun. Overall we had a good experience. The resort feels a touch dated but not extremely so, and everything was very clean. We are SPG gold and were upgraded to an executive beach view - which was a slightly larger room that included a couch/sitting area and large soaking tub. We requested this via email in response to their pre-trip note. They also sent a lovely cake to us in celebration of our anniversary. Breakfast was over the top with bubbly and way too many choices! ~$20-25 US per person it was a decent value and really kept us full until dinner. The only miss for us in terms of food was the wine list - really poor quality and over priced. Go with beer or mixed drinks. Maybe we are a bit spoiled coming from California wine country though. Service is inconsistent. Some servers were engaging, anticipated needs, and went above and beyond, but others not so much. At the beach bar, if you ask for a glass of water, you're simply not going to get it - even if you ask 3 different people. The bonus of its location is that you can enjoy many of the restaurants and amenities of The Datai down the beach, super luxurious. Do not miss the Datai's Gulai House (reservation required) or the lobby bar for sunset drinks! Tip: buy snacks and big bottles of water at the Duty Free grocery store on your way from the airport, it's on the right side of the street about a mile after the airport.
From the moment we arrived we knew we had made a good choice. All the staff were very friendly. Our room was very clean and comfortable and it was nice being in a rainforest room. The hotel is set in an amazing location. Breakfast had loads of choice to suite everyone's taste, fruit, cereal, salad, dim sum, Indian food, every type of egg, English breakfast, all types of bread, cakes, juice, there was also sparkling wine and bloody Mary's for breakfast. Breakfast was til 11am so meant you could eat later. There were 4 restaurants in hotel, the only one we didn't eat at was the Japanese. They all had a good choice of food, our favourite was Jala, ate there twice and loved it! The staff were so welcoming. We went to the marina one night for a change and the datai for lunch one day, the datai is close if you like a variety. We used the gym everyday and this was a great gym, all machines were in excellent condition and facilities were fantastic. They have classes you can go to and the staff in the gym were really helpful and gave you tips when training. My two favourite things about the Andaman is the beach and the spa! The most relaxing massage ever, you can here the waves beating as you are in the spa and the setting is the most beautiful I have ever been in, great view. The spa staff were so lovely! The beach was amazing, lots of space and waiter service so you didn't have to move from your sun lounger! All round I can't fault the Andaman, they have everything you need for a week of relaxation - morning nature walk, coral walk, evening nature walk, bus to the other areas on the island if you fancy a change, all types of food and drink, beautiful beach, amazing spa, spacious pool, great customer service, great gym and all set in an ancient rain forest. I had a week of being in paradise and can't wait to go back!
We stayed here for 5 nights and absolutely loved everything about this hotel. The location is perfect, with a gorgeous white sand beach and crystal clear sea yet set right in the middle of the rainforest so lots of wildlife to see, including eagles, hornbills, colugos, monitor lizards and best of all dusky leaf monkeys, we even saw one of the orange baby monkeys which are so cute and fun to watch playing in the trees. We booked a rainforest room but were upgraded to a treetops room which was a really good size and had a great view. There was a balcony but it's a Juliet balcony so nice for stepping out on and taking photos but not big enough to sit on. Whilst some of the other reviews mention rooms being a bit tired, we didn't find this at all, ours was well presented with everything we could want. We ate at all the restaurants except Jala, only because we don't eat seafood, and they were all excellent, we joined Starwood preferred guest scheme before we went and you get 15% off food at the main restaurant and the Japanese restaurant. Food and drink prices are reasonable for a five star location, service could be slow at times, but being on holiday in an amazing location, it wasn't too much of a worry. The hotel offers lots of complimentary services, guided nature walks, yoga and exercise classes, free bus into town etc and has a great spa and wellness centre but apart from one aqua yoga class we were content to just relax in the fantastic surroundings. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough if you want a great hotel in an amazing location.
