We recently spent 12 nights at the andaman and had a wonderful holiday. We like our food and drink so for us the all inclusive package was a no brainer. This covers pretty much everything except the fish counter in Jala (there's a 25% discount) and the more expensive drinks. The included wines were of good quality We opted for a seaview room with a glorious view across the bay. It is very tidal so at times a lot of coral is exposed but don't worry it will look beautiful again when the tide comes in! Room was fine and excellent bathroom all kept very clean. Bed supremely comfortable We tried all the restaurants - teppanyaki at the Japanese the only disappointment as the meat was not great quality Main restaurant excellent for all meals in a lovely setting. Sea bass with orzo pasta and the grilled lamb chops highly recommended. Teppian laut. Lunch was good but it would be nice if a Caesar salad and a garden salad both on the main restaurant menu were added. Cobb salad didn't hit the spot! Evening Malaysian menu. Husband loved this and the setting is truly wonderful. I do not eat spicy food (however mild) so it would be great if a couple of plain unmarinated grills could be added to the menu to be cooked over the coals. Naan wonderful Jala was excellent service particularly good here Beach bar. Wonderful setting with the added bonus that sunset isn't till 1930 so you can have a long day on the beach. Service always friendly - hello Taufik - but at times a bit chaotic! It would be good if all you ordered was a glass of wine and a beer it did not sit in a queue behind 15 individually made cocktails. We avoided 'happy hour' which was a bit of a scrum but you could still wait sometime at 630 for a drink! But we spent many happy hours there!! Wine sometimes too warm The beach is truly beautiful and long enough for a decent walk. The best swimming was down by the water sports which was where we tended to sit. Would have sat on the bar side of watersports but cushions were never out until 930 and we'd been on beach for ages by then! Lots of beds available around resort which meant we could move to shade for a couple of hours in afternoon. Plastic cushions and beds need to be disposed of but the other beds are comfortable. Great pool. Far better than we expected as both keen swimmers . The slide even quite fun for a 50 something! Wildlife incredible. Monkeys fun to watch - they nicked the suncream from a bed near us which was entertaining. Didn't like it though. Loved the big lizard and seemed to see most things but fortunately not a snake like a previous reviewer. That would have had me in meltdown! I did ask and was told they didn't come to hotel!!!! We did two trips. Mangrove swamp organised by the concierge which was fantastic (don't bother with bat cave especially if you are on larger side) and great fun. We also went to the cable car and bridge. The car was great and views from bridge fine but I found it extremely depressing that the first thing you see on arrival at the Oriental village was a Subway. I had been expecting stalls selling local crafts! We did the morning nature walk which was good but were far to comfortable at beach bar to make the evening one! All in all a fantastic holiday and we felt terrific value. We usually head west to the Caribbean at this time of here and this was at least a third less. It's a long way and 3 flights from Aberdeen but worth it. Very friendly resort with lots of chat if you want to be social. Will definitely return hopefully same time in 2019
This is a hotel that is impossible to fault. The hotel is situated right near the beach, and as you can imagine the view is absolutely stunning, the staff are extremely welcoming and always go above and beyond to ensure that you have a wonderful stay. There was not one aspect of this hotel that was below 5*, the room was large and immaculate, there were many different restaurants to dine in and every single restaurant that my husband and I visited had amazing food - definitely worth the price! There was a spa and wellness centre which was a bit expensive, however it looked extremely relaxing and had I stayed longer I would have definitely visited. The beach, which is just outside the hotel, is absolutely stunning. This is the perfect family or honeymoon destination and I would recommend this to anyone!
We stayed in a pool suite with sea view, which was worth the extra $. The view of the quiet harbor just beyond our private yard was lovely. The plunge pool was refreshing after a walk on the beach. The suite was large, stylish, and the bathroom lavishly appointed. The bedding was very comfy. The living room was very large. The three restaurants were excellent for dinner and the breakfast buffet was delicious with vast offerings. The large pool area was beautifully landscaped. We took the dawn nature walk with the ranger and learned a great deal about the local flora and fauna.
We were here for 3 days. We are a family of 3, our son is 6 years-old. While the resort was nice and affordable, I think the use of "luxury" is a bit far fetch. Here are the pro's and con's from my perspective: Pros: we had a pool access room. Essentially, there are 6 rooms sharing a communal plunge pool. This was nice and convenient. The room was also a nice size The Coral Nursery and the Young Marine Biologist program. It's great to see that the Andaman is actively giving back to the environment by cultivating the beautiful corals to be placed back into the ocean. Our son loved learning about the coral nursery and participating in the YMB program. He liked it so much that he wanted to enroll in the program again, but we ran out of time. The two restaurants, (the seafood and Malaysian) served up fantastic food. Very tasty and reasonable. The pool area was great, especially with the slide. This was a great hit for our son. The beach is very nice..soft sand and warm aqua waters. The only thing is there was something in the water that kept stinging myself and my son, and some other patrons. At times the stinging was quite painful. The complimentary photo session. It's nice to have a family picture taken by a professional at no charge. The Cons: The all day restaurant is a waste. The food was horrible and tasteless. We went there once for dinner, (because all the other restaurants don't open until 6:30 or 7 and we had a child who needed to eat earlier) and it was bland and horrible. Our waiter even tasted our food and admitted it was tasteless. We decided to give it another try for lunch, and to the same dismal result. The rooms were quite dark. While size wise it's decent, it was very dark, thus making us not want to be in the room. We found that a good majority of the staff could not communicate in English, which made it a big challenging.
Beautiful panoramic and nice landscape surrounding the resort. Even a bit far from the airport but the journey to the resort is very peace. the best to relax and very nice food. the staff is very professional especially Mr Razif, miss his cocktail will come again because of him sawal ( his staff)
Another visit to this wonderful hotel, fantastic location set on a great beach only shared with the Datai hotel. The service and the food is excellent in all 4 restaurants, my favourite would be the fish restaurant, the view in the evening is stunning. The rooms are of high standard with great showers, and King size beds. The beach is wonderful for walking nice and flat and the sea clear. look forward to my next visit.
Great hotel with fantastic F&B offerings. About 40 Mins away from the airport. Ideal location for couples or even a single business trip. The pool is decent and also a great hang out area to catch the sunset.
We liked the location at the Datai bay and nestled in the rainforest. The spa is great, you hear all the sounds of the animals while having a massage outside in a bungalow overlooking the bay. The hotel has several restaurants, we liked the malaysian food in the beach restaurant the best.
A wonderful place to relax! The hotel is located in a forest with lots of moneys and squirrels and facing the ocean. At night we sleep with the sound of the wave. The air is so fresh. It is our second day here. We enjoy the private beach which is very clean and well maintained. The beach towel is so clean. Wifi covers all areas with good connection. The service we didn't expect is the staff serving everyone with a cold face towel smell of Lemon grass during the hottest hour-2pm, followed by a glass of ice water. I was very satisfied. The hotel also offers many activities which are free. E.g jungle walk, snorkeling, etc. we did kayaking which is so fun. The nicest thing is not so many people around because it is a private beach. The buffet breakfast is also very good- international buffet, also having champagne and Bloody Mary free flow for free. The rooms are clean. Shower room is big. All towels and bed linen are very clean. Our room faces the ocean also. We really enjoy our stay here. Everything is good here so it worth the price.
The setting in Datai Bay is one of the most beaitful we've ever been to - and we travel a lot. Pristine, idyllic paradise. No loud motor boats, no trash, no hawkers on the beach - just an incredible view, soft sand, and the sun. Overall we had a good experience. The resort feels a touch dated but not extremely so, and everything was very clean. We are SPG gold and were upgraded to an executive beach view - which was a slightly larger room that included a couch/sitting area and large soaking tub. We requested this via email in response to their pre-trip note. They also sent a lovely cake to us in celebration of our anniversary. Breakfast was over the top with bubbly and way too many choices! ~$20-25 US per person it was a decent value and really kept us full until dinner. The only miss for us in terms of food was the wine list - really poor quality and over priced. Go with beer or mixed drinks. Maybe we are a bit spoiled coming from California wine country though. Service is inconsistent. Some servers were engaging, anticipated needs, and went above and beyond, but others not so much. At the beach bar, if you ask for a glass of water, you're simply not going to get it - even if you ask 3 different people. The bonus of its location is that you can enjoy many of the restaurants and amenities of The Datai down the beach, super luxurious. Do not miss the Datai's Gulai House (reservation required) or the lobby bar for sunset drinks! Tip: buy snacks and big bottles of water at the Duty Free grocery store on your way from the airport, it's on the right side of the street about a mile after the airport.
