We stayed for 2 weeks in February. We are semi retired and found this a perfect place for the 55 and over crowd. The other vacationers were all friendly and enjoyed the daily happy hour at the charcoal bbq's. The condo is right on a sandy beach, which is swim-able only on calm days. We saw turtles and breaching whales daily, and twice the endangered monk seal rested on our beach overnight. Our ground floor unit was a bit dated but perfectly homey and practical. Big well stocked kitchen, nice lanai. The bedroom is on the back side of the building so there was some parking and street noise, and no crashing waves to lull you to sleep. Laundry in the suite is a bonus. We found it too far to walk to meals out so mostly shopped at the local grocery stores and ate dinner in. It disturbing that the buildings recycling program had been cancelled, and we were told instead to put everything in the garbage. It would be nice to have information about where instead we could drop off recyclables. We would definitely stay here again, and recommend it for those looking for a home away from home (versus a hotel or resort).
This is our 3rd trip to Maui, we normally stay in Kihei, we decided to try Lahaina for this trip. We stayed in unit B101. Unit was very clean, had every amenity you could think of, the view from our Lanai was amazing we could see the whales jumping and the beautiful sunsets. We saw Turtles every day on the beautiful private beach as well as a couple of monk seals had come up on the beach to sunbathe. I can't say enough good things about Hale Mahina, Larry the resident manager was very friendly, and always kept the grounds and pool looking immaculate. We will definitely be back and will recommend Hale Mahina to our family and friends! Mahalo Jill & Dan
Stayed in unit A401. Very clean property with fabulous views, beach access. Our only complaint was the amount of morning light into the bedroom. Very attentive owner and management. Easy access to all the services you need.
Just returned from an 11-day stay in A-305. The place is beautifully kept and most everything has been recently upgraded. The location and beach are wonderful and with only about 50 units, the beach area never gets cramped and there are always enough chairs for everyone - not sure why anyone thinks they need to get up at 6 AM to save their chair with a towel but some did anyway. Owners Ann and Joe are super nice and a pleasure to work with. Property manager, Larry is great too- always working to keep the ground nice for everyone. This unit had a fabulous view and they thought of everything - really helped to make our vacation great. We had a small issue with the pull-out sofa and they were immediately responsive and Larry was able to come and fix it. Owner Ann even called us to follow up to make sure we were happy. I have stayed in Wailea and Kaanapali in the past and this was the best beach area so far - also conveniently located not far from Lahaina's Front St. There is a lot of noise from the street in the bedroom as it is on that side, but I suspect every condo complex on this road has the same issue. The owners are kind enough to supply ear plugs for those that want but we just dealt with it - small price to pay for paradise. I have a foot disability and the elevator worked well for us,as well as ease to walking to the pool area. There are 3 small steps down to the living area which were very easy to navigate and a railing to assist. There are stairs to access the beach itself but otherwise no issues at all for me. Location -check, views - check, apartment upkeep and beauty - check, owners easy to work with - check. Highly recommend!
We have been coming to Maui for years, staying at various places until we found Hale Mahina. We truly love the property, and have stayed here the last 4 years. After this year, I have no desire to return. The owners of the units we have stayed in have been amazing, and we love the property itself. However, the resident managers Larry & Lynn are awful. I don’t usually write reviews, but have encountered other guests here with similar stories to ours so I decided to finally write something. Larry and Lynn are so intolerant of children it’s unbearable. He races out of his unit to scold them for the tiniest infractions. Once, my daughter used the shower after rinsing with the hose before she got in the pool. Larry didn’t see her use the hose, which he prefers to the shower, and chastised her. Why do the pool showers exist then? My daughters also jumped into the pool and accidentally took two blades of grass with them. Larry was unhappy about that. He also yelled at them for playing with a beach ball. To be fair, my kids missed the rule about no inflatables at the pool. We did not allow them to have any thereafter. There was also poor communication among the adults one day that left my kids briefly unattended at the pool. The tongue lashing I received from Lynn left me speechless. A second time they yelled at my supposedly unattended children, when my husband was out with them. I don’t believe we’re perfect. I would never put my children intentionally in danger or have them carelessly dirty up the pool. A little kindness and respect from Larry and Lynn would go a long way. Just say, “Hey, could you make sure you remember to rinse your feet before jumping in the pool please?” Instead, Larry was so rude he had my 6-year-old almost in tears and refusing to swim anymore. When my husband and I spoke to him, he flat out told us he doesn’t enforce all the rules; apparently, it’s only when it means he can yell at my children. He also told me he “doesn’t give a sh*t” how we feel and if we never come back. It really goes a long way to treat people with a small amount of kindness and respect.
My girlfriend and I have stayed at Hale Mahina now three times. We have always stayed in A307 which again is well kept, up to date and wonderful. The owners are easy to work with on getting the reservation all settled. The unit is beautiful and relaxing to stay in. Parking is free and available. The grounds are beautiful for sunning and swimming with turtles and fish right off the beach. Being a smaller resort there is non of the busy touristy feel of larger resorts. As usual we had a wonderful, relaxing time and look forward to another stay soon.
This condo offers a truly amazing vacation! It has its own little secluded beach just steps away from the condo. The home is tastefully decorated with everything you need to enjoy your stay. The owners were wonderful and very professional throughout the entire renting process. Fantastic place, incredible vacation!!!
We recently stayed at the Hale Mahina Beach Resort. I booked through AirBnb with Maui Properties. We stayed in unit 401B. It was a wonderful experience. Incredible view, everything was as described. The property management company was very responsive on the few calls that were made, they were great to work with. The only surprise was no AC but wasn’t a problem. If I ever return I’ll definitely book the same location.
My cousin and I were recommended this place so we took a chance. Very nice! Clean, modern, quiet and private. The private beach isnt huge but definately big enough, we saw turtles, people were snorkeling, plenty of room to lay out. Room was well stocked, B303 overlooked the pool and perfect to watch sunsets although I think every room would be. The ONLY thing wrong was a couple of lightbulbs out in bathroom. A little further out than the hustle from town was nice also. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Location is amazing! Right on the beach. Not many people on the beach as it seems only Hale Mahina residents/guests use it. Not fancy but great for families. I think all units have a beach view. We watched a beautiful sunset each night. Lounge chairs available at all times during the day. Bottom units have direct access to grass/beach area. Small pool but hardly used because the beach is right there. Skip the expensive snorkeling tours for the family. You can snorkel right here! Turtles swimming by all day long. Washer/dryer and full kitchens in the units is great. Check your unit before shopping or renting equipment. It may already be there for your use. There isn't air conditioning (I was a little worried about that) but it wasn't needed as the ocean breeze cools the unit and there are ceiling fans. It has a full kitchen so we saved money on eating out. BBQ grills available as well.
