We had the four beds in one room. It was a bit cramped but doable. Finishings/bathroom not very elegant but functional. Easy walk to metro transfer station. I liked the breakfast - there was a good variety of items along with some local specialties which were fun to try. Service was excellent - maybe that's redundant to say in Japan! They seemed to sell themselves on the hot bath but we didn't try it.
Pros: Friendly staff, nice lobby, quiet, pleasant area of Kyoto (not bang in the middle of busy, touristy areas but within easy reach to all major attractions and sites). Overall a good vibe, atmosphere. Cons: Rooms are starting to show their wear, would not rate Internet connection top-notch though good enough to get the basic stuff done. Overall, a nice hotel where I would be happy to stay again.
A hotel that don’t understand service to the customers. There was no porters to assist with the luggage. I arrived at 1 pm and was told room not ready as check in time was 2 pm, but for ¥1000, they can miraculously make the room available immediately! All they wanted was to try squeeze an extra ¥1,000 despite the inconvenience it would cause to the customer. Refuse to give even a Panadol for Wife who fell ill. Also refuse to extend check out time in order for Wife to have a longer rest before we leave for our flight, unless we pay of course! Hotel to avoid. Most small minded hotel I have ever stayed in!
This hotel is in a silent neighborhood with lots of restaurants and izikayas in the area. Its located 1 minute away from Kamasura Oika station with gives easy access to the city. The hotel is a typical 4 star japanese hotel. That means its clean and tidy, got friendly and helpful staff but the rooms are a bit on the small side. The hotell also got a public bath which is free. The hotel rooms is clean but show some signs of wear and tear. The room I got had the worst view ever but i dont mind since I dont go to Japan to look though a window. The breakfast is really good if you like japanese breakfast. However if you opt for the western version the breakfast on this hotel is a bit lacking. but all in all im satisfied with my stay.
Came for 3 nights during cherry blossom season (end of March). Service is friendly and they provide a map of Kyoto and recommendations. Lobby is a bit small, but check in is pretty early (2pm) and check out is 11am. - basic and small room (but normal Japanese standard) - can hold our luggage !! (before & after check in) - good location @ downtown & Nishiki market - great Starbucks located across the street - included & free public bath/ onsen !! separate men & women and closes at 12am (luvvvv this!! amazing after a long day of traveling) - free wifi - small fridge and provided drip coffee & tea - provides a mobile phone to use and take outside (super convenient) - provides some chargers/ adapters - breakfast buffet (1800 yen/ $17) until 10am (THE BEST CROISSANTS I'VE EVER HAD!) Overall, had a great stay and definitely will stay at another Mitsui Garden hotel :)
A comfortable, simple and not overstated hotel. Breakfast was passable with some good options for Westerners. The room was comfortable and the beds a little soften than is often the case in Japan. Close to everything and a great neighbourhood for walking about and seeing the locals in their everyday lives.
We stayed here for 3 nights and were very happy with the location. The room was quite small but we spent a lot of time exploring so it didn't happen really matter. The hotel staff were generally helpful but we were very disappointed when we asked one member of staff to help us book a restaurant for the next day (as we have no Japanese) and she said she could not help us as it was for a booking date after we checked out. It would have taken 5 mins to help us make the call and is an example of stupid hotel policies impacting customer experience.
This hotel is in a great location from which to explore Kyoto. The entrance experience from the street and the Japanese garden internal courtyard really make the lobby impressive. Every guest that came to visit us at the hotel expressed how nice the lobby areas looked. Room wise- do not accept it if they put you in a room ending with 19. This room is the smallest room in its price category, being at least 2 meters squared smaller than the exactly same priced neighbouring rooms. And in japan, that extra 2 meters squared makes a BIG difference. This happened to us. I complained about the room size, and the front desk advised that they were fully booked, but could transfer me to an upgraded room for the rest of my stay, at an additional cost. I accepted. However I do think it is wrong for the hotel to charge the same price for a room that is significantly smaller than all the other rooms in the same price category. Besides that, the hotel is clean, crisp, and comfortable. The beds are good, staff were friendly, and they even apologised on checkout for the initial smaller room. There is an onsen in the hotel, which is great as well. I recommend staying in this hotel and I would stay here again
The rooms are very small for the price. What is really disturbing, however, is how ringing the walls and doors are. Most guests are aware of this and behave accordingly, but it may well be that you have the feeling in the middle of the night that someone is looking for a bed in your room.
The exterior of the building and lobby has a nice decor the room lacks any Japanese culture. This was one of our most expensive hotels that we stayed in during our holiday and was the least impressive. The location is good and everything is walking distance but we would not stay at this Mitsui Garden hotel again.
