The staff were all super friendly. Very clean resort and rooms. Very generous with the food, you can order as much as you want for the kaiseki dinner. Breakfast was also very generous with the portions. Very close proximity to all the attractions, all within walking distances. A lot of free snacks and amenities in the public areas. There are private and pubkic onsens which are easily accessible and very comfortable. Great stay

Disliked: Amenities
Front desk has one male staff who ignores the non Asian guests as if they are invisible. So rude! Front desk aren’t fluent in English and stare at you blankly. They allow guests to smoke everywhere and there is a cigarette smell everywhere; especially onsens and elevators. Rooms were dated. There was a cockroach in my room. The female staff were very kind and treated us very nicely. I want the property to relay this message to the male staff working there to ask them to respect women and foreigners!

We really enjoyed our stay! Staff were friendly and facilities were very clean. Only thing that could have made it better is the position of the smoke room. When the doors would open/close, the smell of smoke would easily get inside which made the first half of the lobby smell like smoke. Other than this, we had a great time!

I had no idea what I was getting into. This is a super cool hotel if you want a true Japanese Onsen experience. You start with taking your shoes off and doning either pajamas they provide or your pick of Kimonos ( not sure if what men wear are Kimonos but nonetheless) which they also have for you. Then you head off to either a private bath ( pick the third or the 5th one if you want to be outside)or the public bath ( split for men and women). After bathing you can get a massage, have a traditional dinner or change and walk into town and see the Bamboo forest, temple, take a river boat ride or shop and eat. Plenty to do. It is on the one side of the City and the Golden Temple and the big food market is on the opposite side. To go to the Golden Temple requires you take the train that is across the street 3 stops, transfer and work your way into the opposite side of the city. Assume its an hour if you time all the trains right. Overall, it was an awesome experience!

Amazing clean rooms. Very spacious. Amazing location. It’s right next to the bamboo forest and it’s walking distance of all the food vendors down the street. This really is a top-tier hotel Onsen.

It's arashiyama so it is a quiet area, if you are planning to eat , eat before 5 . Luckily it's right by the station and a convenience store. If you do not speak Japanese skip, the staff treat you very poorly and are not comfortable speaking in English. When we walked over to the receptionist she did not say hello just demanded our passports. We started speaking our elementary Japanese and she lighted up. In addition the hotel charges more to foreigners try looking them up with a Japanese VPN on expedia and you'll see you can save $300 or more dollars. They really don't want forigners there just our money.

Excellent service and a number of onsen options. Breakfast is delicious and offers a lot of delicacies. Optional kansakei style dinner was excellent. The staff were courteous and it seems like there is someone either cleaning the place or waiting to serve you. Free udon at night at 10 PM. Massage service was very good and done by experiences local masseurs. Minor complaint is that some of the furniture is dated but it also gives some ryokan charm.

Traditional Japanese hotel, we enjoyed the different customs ( shoes locked away, katana to wear in hotel, traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast). The Onsen’s were lovely and were the highlight of our stay.
