Rather sad, tacky hotel, not particularly close to airport. Threadbare stained carpets, basic cleaning, despite saying on the site they speak English, they don't. Woman on reception in morning gave us distinct impression she preferred we weren't there, using translator app, refused to help re taxi and showed us out on to street to try and wave one down. Probably the worst hotel and service we have encountered on trips to China.
I had requested a quiet room but got one at the back of the hotel where large HGVs rumbled by all night right outside my window. They had even tied open the external fire door with rope which let in even more noise. The room and bed were very large but I kept something on my feet the whole time (the carpet felt that dirty!). I don't know what the problem was at reception, but it took her about 15 mins to check me in. I got a taxi from the airport (approx. 15 mins) but the hotel organised a free pick to take me back., There were lots of other hotels nearby - wish I d gone for another one!
Was shocked at how long it took to get to this hotel. I had an 8 hr layover overnight and wanted to get some sleep. I paid $30us. That was enough. The carpet was DIRTY but the bed was clean.... I hope. The people working there were super nice though, they rang my room to make sure I was up and then collected my luggage promptly to make sure I was back on the shuttle bus to the airport. Cannot day I would ever do it again and would surely look for something closer even if it cost more. Exhaustion got me through the tough times - I really needed to sleep.
We had a long layover in Kunming so we wanted a place to stay near the airport with a free airport shuttle. It was difficult to communicate prior to us landing, but once we arrived to the airport, we called the hotel to let them know we were there. The whole process was a little confusing because they didn't speak English and we don't speak Chinese, but somehow it all worked out in the end. Check-in was relatively easy and the staff was really friendly - we asked about getting a taxi the next morning to Green Lake Park and then proceeded to communicate via Translate apps on our phones. They were very patient as we tried to communicate and eventually lined up a taxi for us! The room itself was old - basically, you get what you pay for.
As with most of these reviews we stayed 1 night for a layover. We originally came in on the train and the taxi driver knew exactly where the hotel was so no problems finding the hotel from the South Train Station. Upon arrival we had no problem checking in etc and got asked if we needed a shuttle to the airport the following morning which was very useful at 430am! The room itself was pretty clean and the bed was decent, The only slight issue with the hotel is that the location seemed to be in a relatively iinteresting neighbourhood which didn't seem too safe at night, however we just stayed inside which isnt a problem during a short layover
To be honest it is an effort to find this hotel from Kunming Airport. I booked online and requested an airport pickup which never materialized. Ended up taking a meter taxi there but the driver got lost and had to call the place to get directions. So it took about 40 minutes to get there. The hotel is a good kilometre off the main road past many other similar small hotels with red and gold flashing neon signs. Surreal! Once I got to the desk well after midnight I was well looked after by staff who spoke some English. Checked in and was issued bottled water and given my key. The room accessed by elevator was simple but clean and got a quick 4hr nap before they called to wake me up for my early morning transfer which the hotel arranged. Would stay again now I know how to get there.
Lot of mixed reviews but probably lean toward the positive. Again a 1 night stay before morning departure. Very inexpensive and would have spent more if available but didn't see anything else on Agoda. Receptionist was great. Spoke good English and helped with our taxi driver who got "lost" on the way and was certifiably insane. Room was a family deluxe, 2 separate bedrooms. Nice as we were a couple with our teen son. So odd and had found it in most of our Tibet hotels also and that is: from shin up, room was great. Clean linens, comfy bed, decent shower ( hot water on at 7pm) but carpet a disaster. As for food, missed breakfast but dinner I recommend out front, turn right, down 2 blocks and do the outdoor skewer BBQ as opposed to indoor restaurants. The neighborhood is much more charming after dark...
We had an overnight layover in Kunming, and were traveling with 2 young kids. So we just wanted something close to the airport. Most of the hotels close to the Kunming airport are 2-3 star Chinese-style hotels, so we went with one of the more highly rated ones we could find. The best part about this was that we were able to book a "Deluxe family suite" for USD $50. This is a hotel room with two bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It was the perfect size for our family of 4. Even though the hotel advertises airport shuttle pickup, it's difficult to navigate the shuttle system at the airport - there were just way too many hotels and tour buses to be able to find what we needed. So, we took a taxi to the hotel instead (50-60 CNY). The taxi ride took about 10 minutes. I would NOT recommend this hotel if you cannot speak basic Chinese. Unless you're adventurous and can just roll with it, you may find trying to deal with this hotel (without having Chinese language) to be stressful. As soon as our taxi arrived at the hotel, a random guy (no uniform) came out and started taking our suitcases. If you're not used to how these Chinese hotels work, you might think that somebody was just trying to steal your luggage. No, he's just the security guard and bellboy (but... with no uniform identifying him as a hotel employee). Check in was quick and simple. They requested 100 RMB in deposit, providing us with a pink deposit slip. Hold on to this for check-out so that you can get your deposit back. The hotel room was very modest. Carpets were not that clean. Bathroom is a basic sink and toilet and Chinese-style shower (not enclosed, so your entire bathroom floor will get wet). Next to each bed... was a condom for purchase. Fortunately, my 3-year old and 5-year old kids didn't think it was candy to be opened. So, they just ignored it. But it says something about a hotel when they leave a condom next to your bed. Blankets on the bed were warm, so we still got a good night's sleep. I think we felt fairly safe in this hotel. But, we made sure to deadbolt our doors and never have our things out of our line of sight. Breakfast was super-modest. Some steamed breads and rice porridge. Honestly, unless this is your jam... you are better off asking for a slightly earlier shuttle back to the airport (just tell them your flight is earlier than it is) and then getting some McDonalds or Starbucks at the airport. Check-out was quick and painless. The airport shuttle that they schedule for us is an airport shuttle shared by multiple hotels in the area. We stopped at 2 other hotels to pick up a few more people. Also, the shuttle van then pulled into another street, where the driver got out and grabbed a car key from some other guy. Then, the driver asked us all to get out. If you don't understand Chinese, you might think that something shady is about to go down. But actually, he just wanted us to switch to a smaller van (less gas usage? cheaper tolls? We weren't sure why). In the end, he couldn't start the other van, and so we didn't switch. Got to the airport and had plenty of time to spare. All in all, this hotel is JUST OK. Again, I would only recommend this hotel to you if: - you can speak and understand basic Chinese - you are OK with a Chinese-style (completely non-Western) hotel - you are not expecting anything substantial for breakfast, even though breakfast is included in your stay - you're just looking for a cheap room to get you through the night so you can catch your flight the next day
I stayed 2 nights. No English. My room was not serviced. Breakfast was extremely poor. Rooms are very old. Not much water pressure. Very noisy. 15 minutes drive from airport but airport taxis will not take you as too short for them. You have to call the hotel to send shuttle, but if you do not speak English, good luck because they won't know what you asking or where to find you. I was lucky to find a Chinese person that could speak English so I asked them to call the hotel and she told me where to wait. All very hard at 2am in the morning.
For people who want to take some rest before the next flight. Near the Airport. Gives you Airport drop and pick up free. Very Comfortable rooms for a sound sleep. Staff are very welcoming. Room rates are very reasonably priced. Overall very nice experience.
