The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata5.0 out of 5.0

I stayed at the Oberoi on friend’s recommendation on a recent business trip. It was first time to this amazing city and the Oberoi was one of the highlights. It is a real testimony to the vibrancy and vitality of Kolkata. Wonderful ambiance, amazing staff and a great location. The public areas recall an earlier era without being a caricature. The food was delicious and the rooms well appointed. Would stay here again without question.
Had a lovely weekend at the Oberoi. The hotel is beautiful and the staff most attentive and helpful. The food is great, had indian street food by the pool one day and fresh salads the next, wide range and choice at every meal. Very comfortable and gorgeous. Thank-you for taking so much care of us!
After many visits to this city we finally stayed at the Oberoi and it was everything we could have hoped for. The rooms are delightful, very comfortable with every possible comfort. But it has to be the staff who make the experience so delightful. Any request was immediately acted upon and more. Nothing was too much bother. We look forward to returning, our stay was an absolute joy. Thank you
We stayed 4 nights, last February,at this very comfortable and well located hotel. Airport service pick-up,in the middle of the night, was smooth and efficient .Friendly, professionnel and helpful staff. Super service from the reception desk particularly Mrs Farzana. Buffet breakfast and dinner are excellent with lots of choice of indian and occidental cuisine. All chefs, namely Sarah, and waiters give you precious insights on the buffet. Room is classical, spacious and cosy. Nice garden and clean swimming pool.
Another great great experience in India. Super service from check in till departure. Room is classical, spacial and comfortable. I contacted the customer service via email for a few matters of late check out, airport drop and half day tour. All were handled quickly and smoothly. The Thai restaurant was very authentic with super service. The other restaurant and bar was also excellent for breakfast, lunch and drink. The location of the hotel is also very good, especially if you plan to visit nearby Indian museum and Victoria Memorial.
The Oberoi Grand is a peaceful oasis in the chaos of Kolkata. We received outstanding service including highly personalized service from staff with 30 plus years of experience. The breakfast at The Grand was outstanding placing second out of 19 different hotels across Indian and Sri Lanka. Dinner was also excellent and our room was large, beautifully decorated with period pieces. I was very pleased with the hotel, staff, security and pool.
We were sadly only there for one night. This was an oasis of calm in the bustling market area, close to BBG and lovely park. The beautiful colonial hotel is well maintained, fabulous decor. Rooms very spacious, and comfortable Staff are wonderful, so friendly and helpful All day 363 restaurant was lovely. Breakfast buffet was the best we had experienced in our 2 week tour of India, included eggs Benedict on the egg menu, staff were on hand to explain what different delicacies were. Staff were professional without being in your face. Loved it all! Free WiFi
In the heart of the city, the Oberoi sits amid the sprawl surrounding the New Market. Its exterior is cloaked in various hoardings and other buildings but as your driver cuts up 3 lanes of crawling traffic with horns blaring (standard driving practice in Kolkata) and turns into the hotel entrance you start to see the splendour that awaits. Security is tight, every vehicle is checked before being allowed to enter, but prior to checking the uniformed guards comes to attention and salutes the visitors. And then you are in, greeted by welcoming staff, you are brought in to a building with grand proportions, a refreshing drink is offered to the weary traveller and you start to experience the best aspect of this hotel, the staff. Friendly, efficient and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. They have a policy of not tipping individuals, so the atmosphere is not one of acquired allegiance to those with the most generous wallets, but one of collective responsibility for ensuring the comfort of every guest. Kolkata is a vibrant and at times overwhelming city, and the Oberoi provides the perfect antidote, an Oasis within a short walk of the main shopping street, Victoria Memorial and other attractions. It's rooms are large, restaurants and bars provide great food and service, and the pool in the middle is far away from the car horns and cacophony of the streets outside. I think this might be the best hotel I have ever stayed in.
Highlight of my trip to Kolkata. Rooms are large and nice with internet access, etc. Great staff, does not accept tips accept when you leave. Wonderful service, knowledgeable concierge. Great dining room with American dishes, as well as Indian, sushi, etc. Would stay at Oberoi again at any opportunity
This is the third time we have visited this hotel. The service is fantastic from the moment you walk through the door. The choice at breakfast is unbelievable. There are plenty of bars and restaurants close by (Park Street) if you want to risk venturing outside. We are already planning our next visit around India just so we can go back to this hotel.
