First time for everything...

Room was nice and the free breakfast was surprisingly good, but I cannot get past being made to pay for to access my room one hour early. This is the first time I've ever been made to pay for a early check-in at any hotel and it just left an immediate negative impression that lasted throughout the trip. As well, why would you offer different check-in in times for different customers. 3PM is the regular time for checking in at most hotels for Japan, but here it's at 4pm? Why? It just creates confusion, even the bloke checking me in didn't realise until he nearly handed me the key. Definitely won't be looking to book this chain unless they're no other reason option anytime soon

The staff were incredibly helpful, they made such a difference for our trip. The hotel is an easy walk to Ropeway and train station. Close to combini etc.

Toyoko was my go-to for inexpensive accommodations. It’s still excellent for everything except the bed. You’re basically sleeping on a thin mattress pad that is set on top of a box spring. Sadly, my back can’t take that the older I’ve become. Enjoy the savings, young ones, you can’t beat this chain for the value and free breakfast!

There is no more option to use a hard and thick pillow, I didn't sleep all the nights properly and even i got neck pain due to very hard pillow and no extra blanket as well. You may off or on AC as per your feel.

We loved our stay here. It is peaceful, with a calm, beautiful Japanese aesthetic. It was very clean. I loved the garden and screen doors. The owner was quick to reply to my messages. We were able to leave our luggage in the building before check in, which was wonderful so we didn’t have to carry around luggage. We were able to walk from the property to Gion district, Chion-In, Philosophers Path, and Nishiki Market. It rained one day and the house had umbrellas for us. It was also conveniently close to train stations and bus stops. Thank you!!!!!

The place was near the river where there were lots of beautiful cherry blossoms & locals enjoying Hanami. But restaurants were a little far away & the beds were a little stiff.
