The Club House hotel doesn't look too great from outside but the warmth of the welcome and the quality of the bedroom / bathroom belies the interior public areas. The corridors / stairs of the hotel could definitely do with a lift - paint and new carpets. But don't cover up the lovely wooden floor parts of these areas. But the carpets look faded. However, I can cope with all of that because of the quality of the welcome by all staff and the comfortable bedrooms. Also the hotel is right in the centre of the city with Kilkenny Castle five minutes slow walk away. Added to that was the amazing price in Kilkenny in July.... three couples and myself got an amazing deals, much cheaper than even several B&Bs are on the outskirts of the city. An additional perk.... free car parking. Other hotels charge per day. The breakfast staff put up with the different requests of some of our party, e.g. can I have my poached eggs on a separate plate from my full Irish... A drawback for people with mobility issues is that there is no lift but as we were all ok on that this was not a problem for us. Bottom line.... I will be back! Thank you for a great welcome.
Called in here for a drink with my partner while on a break in Kilkenny we loved the look and feel of this hotel great character, we were looking for something a little different and we weren't disappointed, Shane the Bartender whipped us up some fancy Gins and shots we will definitely stay here for our next trip to Kilkenny..
The location is good and the staff friendly. Secure off-street parking. Expect to climb some narrow stairs, Large rooms. The only reason for a 4/5 rating was because one of the few wall power plugs did not work and there was no phone, but that was quickly fixed.
my husband and I recently spent two nights visiting kilkenny and stayed in the Club House Hotel. We were delighted to see it was so close to the city centre. We were in a room on the first floor which was bigger than I'd thought (we'd booked a small room) and was very very clean. Breakfast was a choice of a full fry, cereals, meats, fruit, yogurt, eggs etc and was very tasty in a lovely breakfast room We also ate dinner in the restaurant which was also very tasty. if I should visit kilkenny again I will most definitely stay here
We had a nice stay at this hotel. It was cozy with a nice atmosphere. We were traveling with our children and the room was plenty big enough for the four of us. Room was comfortable and staff was friendly. There was on-sight parking. Breakfast was good. The location was great...short and easy walk to the castle and many restaurants and shops.
Pros: location is great for walking everywhere, parking, clean, cheap, friendly staff Cons: honestly, I cannot understand why this is a recommended property except for the price. Be prepared to carry your luggage to many levels. It is old, creaky and "you get what you pay for" so understand that before you book. It was ok for us for one night but I would not want to stay longer term. We did not stay for breakfast, even though it was included because I could not imagine what the kitchen might be like, once I saw the room. For the price, I could justify eating breakfast elsewhere.
The club house hotel is one of the few hotels that have parking which is make life a little easier. Fiona at receptions is wonderful she knows the best restaurants in the area as well as great night life locations if you are looking to experience Kilkenny in the evening. It's a good place for those looking for a reasonably priced place to stay.
We stayed here for one night on our way down the country and it was perfect for the one night. Our room was nice and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had gotten a deal through pigsback.com and it was great value for such a fantastic location. They went out of their way to make us a big dinner and breakfast (we're both vegan). I thought this really shows how great this little hotel is as even with the deal they still looked after us to the best of their ability. Would be delighted to stay there again on our next trip to Kilkenny! :)
I am not sure how they can call this s hotel as it is rooms in a pub. The room was awful & I can honestly say this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, the room number 25 is. Very old and depressing, the decor is awful, broken toilet seat, light in bathroom not working, toilet paper holder is a lotus the type you see in public toilets that dispense one sheet and in this case it was broken so no sheet, the breakfast was terrible with extremely miserable staff who don't want to work there especially the older of the 2 women. There is no lift and a mountain of many staircases to climb, the smoking area was below our room with very noisy smokers and the disgusting stench of smoke coming into the room, the place is tired and in need of a revamp/knock down start again job. The red Capet in the room was sticky where previous guests had stayed and this had not been cleaned up, I got this deal from Wowcher so thank god I got a deal otherwise I would never have stayed here, I had paid in England so had little choice but to suffer this place, the check out time was 11:30 but I was out of this place as soon as I was up, never again would I step foot inside this place.
We stayed in the club house in June 2017, we also had dinner and breakfast here. The hotel itself is an older building but this doesn't take from it's charm at all. Our room was nice and really clean which is my main concern usually. We also ate at the restaurant and had breakfast. The location of the hotel is perfect to see everything in Kilkenny and there is plenty of parking. The staff at the hotel were particularly friendly and helpful. We had great fun with the barman when we returned to the hotel. Overall I'd strongly recommend.
