Club House Hotel is a lovely "old fashioned hotel "which are very rare these days. It is charming and homely and very comfortable. The staff are welcoming and friendly . I have to mention Fiona for her efforts to accommodate my group. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Staying at the Club House is like staying at your rich Uncle's Mansion. The rooms are tasteful and spotless and the ambience is relaxed and regal. Highly recommend . Kay Tramore Ireland.
We stayed for 2 nights on a Groupon deal. We ate in the hotel first night and the meal was very good. The staff in both the restaurant and the bar were very friendly and helpful. Bedroom was quiet and beds were comfy. Bathroom was a bit tired and dated and on the chilly side. But the hotel is right in the centre of town and everything is a short walk including the Castle, cathedral and all the restaurants and bars are pretty much on the doorstep.
Always feel welcome in the clubhouse I stay here every January with a few friends, staff are always friendly and eager to help the food is always fantastic and washed down with a few bevvies in the bar area. We had a great weekend even if my favourite barman was not on that weekend but Shane tells me it was just coincidence lol We even get a few late ones when we returned from our night out Peter the night porter was delighted to see us again lol Looking forward to seeing ye next January folks
We are vintage lovers and dislike painfully modern places. So when I read that the Club House Hotel was a vintage hotel I booked it. We were traveling for a month, Ireland, England and Wales. This was our only disappointing hotel. The breakfast here is fine. The pokie, winding halls, Georgian architecture and vintage charm is fun. I'd asked for an older room, with old world charm. What we got was a disinterested receptionist, ( a few of the other people at the front desk were a bit more helpful, although asked if we were swing dancers.... ugh.) We had to carry our bags up and down and through a series of stairs and halls. Ok, all a part of the charm. We were given a tiny modern ( for lack of any other word) room. Disappointing. The bathroom was clean, but here is why one should never paint a bathroom with flat paint. Finger prints, and what could only be described as boogers....sorry, smeared on the walls. I know the cleaners do an excellent job cleaning, but this was a problem due to maintenance. We stayed because we wanted to spend time seeing Kilkenny, not moving hotels. We enjoyed the building although not a good choice for Uber modern people. And the location was perfect. Just disappointed we got stuck in the ugly, unkempt modern wing. Again nothing against cleaning staff. They were wonderful Oh and the toilet paper dispenser was like one you may see in a public restroom. Picky, I know but this was not an economy hotel, or hostel. We paid for what was described on our reservation as " best room available " ( in a half empty hotel.)
Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for 2 nights. We found the rooms very cold and a bit dated. We were woken up by house cleaning on the first morning. I don’t think it was worth €150 for two nights. But it was a very comfortable nights sleep.
Third time at this home away from home. Staff are incredible big shout out to Deirdre and Geraldine. Bar area and food extremely good quality very comfortable surroundings. The staff take such good care of the local elderly and regular punters which is always a good sign. Old world charm around every corner, thank you as always would never stay anywhere else in Kilkenny you have us for life!! Gretta and Greg
We spent one night here while on our Christmas party in Kilkenny. The hotel was an average price and the location was attractive when booking. Hotel is dated and the staff are not the friendliest. The hotel also took a holding deposit by card which was returned in cash which was a first!! Wouldn't recommend for more than one night.
My two friends and I stayed here over the weekend and it was great. We only stayed one night but I would come again. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was very quiet, the room also stayed comfortably warm. Breakfast in the morning was such a nice addition, they even offer a gluten free Full Irish Breakfast. I would recommend this for a cozy stay in Kilkenny.
This hotel needs some extreme renovations. They clearly do not upkeep it. It looks great on the outside, as well as the common areas, but the rooms are horrendous. My bathroom ceiling literally had mould on it and rust all over the walls and countertop. My tea kettle was also used when I arrived (still had some dirty water at the bottom) and the bathtub had clearly not been cleaned. It's a small town so everything is pretty close. Just book somewhere else. Not worth staying in such a disgusting place. They should not be allowed to receive guests with those bathrooms.
The staff was both friendly and helpful; the breakfast great, and the location very good. However, the Club House Hotel is a bit difficult to assign a grade because there are two basic sections to it. The quaint front building(s) 200 or so years old, and the back, newer - think 20th century - tired annex where I was assigned. I did not see the rooms in the older section, but expect they have more quaintness than the annex's tired ones.
