Recently enjoyed a 2 nights stay in this wonderful hotel .Staff ,accommodation ,breakfast, location far surpassed our expectations.Breakfast staff had wonderful sense of humour and this added to the atmosphere. On arrival had delicious meal in the bar and returned the second night for an equally meal.I booked under Select Hotels what a bargain.
My husband and I arrived early Saturday afternoon and was advised our room was not ready and the receptionist very quickly offered to keep our luggage. She also gave us a map of the city and pointed out places of interest. Already she had made us feel very welcome but to top her kindness off she informed us as we had made our reservation directly with them we were entered into the daily upgrade draw and we had won! Our room was upgraded to a suite, this was the best start to our night away. The hotel was located right in the town centre, very centrally located. After exploring the city for a few hours we went back to the hotel to check in and get ready for our night out (child free). When we arrived to our room or should I say apartment we were bowled over by our room, it exceeded all expectations. We had a living room with a sofa, coffee table, dressing table and chair and a tv. In our bedroom we had a super king sized bed, dressing table and chair, tv and beside lockers. The bathroom had 2 sinks, toilet and bday, and a very powerful shower. We didn’t want to leave our room to head out it was so comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, buffet style, fully attended to and always being replenished. Food was fresh, hot and tasty. I would highly recommend this hotel, my husband and I will be back.
Well done Sinead and the rest of the staff. Twelve of us had a brief but really enjoyable stay. The leisure centre is excellent, bedrooms adequate, breakfast good, staff helpful. ..I would happily recommend the Ormonde
From the moment I arrived I felt welcome. Eric put my bag in storage as I was too early to check-in. He got me tea. Anne the receptionist was really nice and could not do enough for us.The bar staff who served us dinner were exceptional. Matea and I cant remember the other girl. but thank you all. Our rooms at the back were very comfortable and quiet. 1 room to the front a bit noisy but someone has to go out front. We could park the cars and walk to everywhere we wanted to go which is brilliant. Parking ticket validation is a great bonus considering what parking costs. I enjoyed the leisure center however I got a bit worried when the water from the shower began to collect rather than flow down the drain. The staff here were very friendly too. The water in the jacuzzi was a little cold.
Location is great, walk to restaurants, river, Kilkenney Castle. Parking garage is right across the street. However the rooms are dated, the bathrooms old, small, towels poor quality and there absolutely no washcloths at all provided. The biggest complaint would be the lack of air conditioning! The hotel doesn't have. A small fan is as good as it gets. The window may open but then street noise will enter. My friend's room had a clogged sink. In the two night stay no maintenance person was available to rectify this. The best they got was 50 euros credited back to their credit card but they had to use the tub/shower for all washing, brushing teeth, etc.
We stayed at this hotel for several days as a hub to see the southwest of Ireland. The good points: We loved the location in Kilkenny, totally central to everything you’d want to do and it was fairly easy to get out of town from there as well. The waitstaff in the restaurant and bar were wonderful but the front desk always seemed a bit harried. Now the bad: Although the rooms were good sized and clean, the shower could have used a little bleach in the corners. The beds were uncomfortably hard to the point of needing to sleep on top of the duvet in order to actually sleep. And the WiFi was pathetic, unless you stood by the door or sat in the bathroom there was virtually no connection. Would I stay here again? Maybe, but only if I could get a room a little more central to the center of the hotel and get an extra duvet.
The location of the hotel is excellent and the staff were friendly and polite. Bedrooms are spacious and ours had a large flat screen TV. The swimming pool was nice but the showers need maintenance. We enjoyed our stay and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The only spoiler was the madness at breakfast when the place was mobbed and not only we had to wait 10 minutes for a table but 20 minutes to get served coffee, tea and toast! The rest of the breakfast was self service and plentiful.
Stayed overnight here on a recent trip to Kilkenny. Large hotel in the centre of Kilkenny, ideal for a visit to restaurants and local pubs. Large reception area with lots of seating. Small but adequate bar area, with lots of side spaces to have a quiet drink. Though the hotel was busy, it wasn't obvious by the noise or people milling about. Room was spacious and well maintained and spotless. Large bathroom with bath and shower attachment. I didn't have dinner in the hotel, but had breakfast the following morning and this was buffet style with the usual fare. Overall, an ideally located hotel which I would fully recommend.
Attended an auction in the Ormonde 3rd Oct. A very nice hotel with a spacious and comfortable function room downstairs. Pleasant staff , the whole ambience of the place is very inviting. My wife and I resolved to stay overnight soon. Some things we would comment on:: the food at lunch time, in the bar or lobby is mainly salads and expensive and the coffee is awful ! Downstairs, outside , there's a fine courtyard and picnic area but the place is a mess. The tiles are covered in green lychen from last winter, the same goes for the steps up to the street. It doesn't take an army to clean it, a moss killer and sprayer would clear it in an hour. And this winter just beginning! As for car parking, having to pay " special rates" in a park opposite is unacceptable for a 4 star hotel. Also, while we were there, three tour buses were taking up the top of the street, Why a hotel was built there without parking facilities for cars or coaches is weird !
Stayed at the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel back in September, 2017 - excellent time had by all. Very clean and staff are extremely helpful and polite. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning to visit Kilkenny.
