For the price, no complaints. It's a no-frills type of place: everything's functional, nothing's luxurious. The bed wasn't super comfy and the bathroom was a little dimly lit, but my only real grievance was the lack of A/C (it was 90 degrees out during my entire stay). However, the room was clean, kitchen was well-stocked with supplies, and my room even had beach towels, a beach umbrella, sand mats, body boards and sand buckets/toys to use! Not sure if every condo has all this stuff, as I assume they're individually owned, but it was a really awesome touch. The location is great - there's a beach right outside the back door and the sunset is clearly visible from your balcony. Restaurants and shops are <10 minutes' drive away, and it's about a 35-minute drive to Lahaina (Front St., Kaanapali Beach, etc.). There was plenty of parking for all the people staying there - and I was there for July 4th weekend, so I was impressed by that. I called ahead a couple of hours to see if I could check in early and the staff was very accommodating, checking with housekeeping to make sure I was OK to check in and helping me out when I called back and was having trouble unlocking my door. Overall, a great budget stay.
The condo, 318 was very dirty, hair stuck to the towels and the bedding, like it was not washed fully. The bed was rock hard and uncomfortable to sleep on. I was also disappointed that this was not a true one bedroom place, it is more like a studio. I did not like that the bedroom is directly as you walk in the front door. Also, the curtains did not block any light in the bedroom making it hard to sleep and it was very loud in the mornings. The shower was very small and felt dirty, not sure how a bigger adult could fit in there. Ants were all over in the bathroom. I would not go back. The only positive was the views and location.
steps away from the beach... fantastic location and very well maintained. The manager helped us with maps and guides for touring. Extremely friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended to anyone travelling to Maui
The property was great. You are maybe 100' from the beach, a western exposure for incredible sunsets, and only 60 units so you get to know people. Each unit different and has different quality levels but your rarely inside the units except to sleep.
We were on an island hopping trip and our first stop was in # 218 at the Hale Kai O'kihei complex for six nights. I wish we could have stayed longer. The location was perfect, on a quiet road, overlooking the Pacific, beach and palm trees. The building is made up of a number of condos and apartments spread over three floors, with about twenty establishments on each floor. The one we stayed in was on the middle storey. Like most of these places each apartment probably varies depending who owns them, but this one we thought was great and it met our needs perfectly. It had all the facilities we required, with a built in kitchen diner which included a fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine and drier. There is free parking although the parking bays are not allocated but we had no difficulties and this was over New Year. The lounge was spacious with sliding doors leading to a small lanai overlooking the grassed gardens, beach and ocean. It has one bedroom, with built in wardrobes and a safe. In addition there is a shower room with a toilet. There is free wifi included. The other thing we liked was that there was a noise curfew between 10pm and 8am which everyone adhered to. That is not to say that you cannot have a tv on within those hours as long as it is not loud. There is also a small gated outside pool within the grounds. There is a small supermarket within walking distance, along with various coffee houses and restaurants which we took full advantage of. Great start to our trip and look forward to going back soon.
My husband and I stayed here on our Honeymoon in late October. It was amazing. We stayed in a room that was updated and it was beautiful. They had a large bed as well as a pull out couch which we ended up sleeping on since we could wake up looking out at the ocean. There is a grocery store right in front of the property which was extremely convenient. It was close to so many delicious restaurants as well as shopping. I loved not being at a huge fancy resort it made me feel like I lived there (which I wish I did). It was quiet and relaxing and we spent most of our nights on the balcony or on the beach watching the sunset. I look forward to staying here again on our next trip to this beautiful island.
I stayed here in January 2017 and again in January 2018. The unit I rented both times was renovated nicely. I read some of the other reviews and I understand what they're saying about the parking lot noise but once I got to sleep I was never woken up by foot traffic or loud vehicles. I didn't use the A/C in the unit as I was there for the warm air and breezes. There were lots of families staying both times I was there, but the sound of children playing is fine with me. I enjoyed the coffee service offered on the first Friday morning. Sunsets were glorious and if the resident manager was home, were always greeted with the blowing of the sea shell. This is not a fancy development, but it is well maintained and the beach is just steps away across the lawn. Azeka markets a few minutes walk, and Supermarket even closer.
It wasn't all bad, and we did have a nice vacation, plus the chaises are kept all lined up, just like in the picture, by the obviously ex-military groundsman. But...the curtains, dirty. The bedspread, dirty. The carpets, dirty and badly in need of stretching or better yet, replacement. Blinds worked partially. The linens were clean, though they were the cheapest to be found before thread count was a thing, I'm guessing around 1989. There is no dishwasher or elevator, but the location is good for getting to everything in Maui. The beach is too rocky and too shallow for real swimming, but the lawn is nice. The bedroom windows are placed unfortunately; right at the open stairwells. So no matter how courteous your neighbors, you will be awakened by their comings and goings reverberating in the concrete hallways. At $2300+ for a week for a 1BR/1BA, this joint did not come close to meeting my expectations. I was taken in by the pretty pictures and the inexplicably glowing reviews when I booked, but neither of those reflect the reality of the condo that I just experienced.
This is the perfect location to stay if you want a nice quiet vacation, that is super close to the beach. As seen from the picture you have the grass which is impeccably maintained. Then you have the beach. So fantastic. This is a quieter area of Kihei, and the beach is also quieter. So you won't get the large rolling waves. We had a child with us and it was great for swimming because I wasn't too worried about her getting caught up in the waves. They also a little pool if you don't want to swim in the ocean. Sadly, no hot tub. Now the one thing you must be warned about this place is that it is an older condo and they are all individually owned. So some of the owners haven't kept their places up as nicely as others. Just be careful and ask to see pictures before you book. We booked a 1 bedroom which didn't end up being a true 1 bedroom. Meaning it didn't have a door on the room. Not great if you have kids you want to put to sleep! Our pull out couch and bed had seen better days and was really uncomfortable, so that was really disappointing. Also, the unit we had didn't come with a dishwasher. I have to say, the grounds and our patio/lanai were spectacular and made up for the not so great insides of the condo. I'd definitely recommend this place, just another unit!
We just loved our experience at Hale Kai O'Kihei. The apt was well-supplied with staples. The pull-out bed in the living room meant we could listen to the ocean all night. There were laundry facilities. The beach was beautiful for walking. The place was not over-populated
