I liked the hotel, the location, the security staff, & the clean rooms. For what I paid given the general low prices of Ukraine, I feel like it was a win / win situation. The boutique hotel was nice (very upscale) & the location is good. We had airline problems & arrived 15 hrs late. The hotel not only honored our unpaid reservation but did not charge us for the night that we missed - our fault not theirs.
To make it short, here are the good points about Podol Plaza Kiev: good room and bathroom standard, good location, nice helpful staff, guardians, reasonable price, good services of any kind. The restaurant has nice food and the breakfast is really great.
My wife & I stayed at the Podol Plaza for 4 nights. We were very happy with the overall standard of the hotel. The reception staff were friendly & competent, check in was very easy. Payment by international credit card was not an issue. The hotel is located very close to the Metro station & the bus / tram station. There are several nice bars & restaurants in close proximity. We will stay at the Podol Plaza again - very comfortable
Podol Plaza was a lovely hotel in Kyiv, very authentic so really felt like we were in Ukraine. Our room was huge and overlooked the front of the property. It was very clean and comfortable. The area itself is a little away from the centre - a good 20 minute walk. Having said that, Podil is a lovely neighbourhood and we found the bars and restaurants to be much better than in the centre. The Metro is very close to the hotel and it's very cheap to travel on so it's not a problem that the hotel isn't right in the heart of the city. Uber is also inexpensive and the easiest way to get around. Be wary of booking cars to airport from the hotel though. When we arrived we were collected by a man in a suit in an Octavia. For ease we booked our return journey to the airport with the hotel too (it's much more expensive doing through the hotel but we did so to ensure a nice car/comfortable ride back to airport) The return journey was not so nice. The car was very old and the driver was not really presentable for this kind of service. This was disappointing as we only booked through the hotel and the pick up from the airport was good. If we'd known we were going to pay a high price to be taken back in a car that was over 20 years old with stained seats and with someone who did not look like a chauffeur we would've booked an Uber. The hotel itself is good and the location great and would definitely stay here again but just avoid the transfers as Uber is so easy to book and all our Uber drivers were friendly and spoke good English.
I was travelling on business last week of June 2017 and I booked the hotel for 3 nights. My credit card number was submitted as payment guarantee at the moment of booking. At the day of arrival there was a hacker attack on the Ukrainian bank system and everyone faced some difficulties. The credit cards didn't work at the moment. However I think, the hotel should still respect the guest. I arrived at the hotel and the reception staff asked me to pay cash in advance!!! .. so, if you want to stay you have to pay in cash in advance now or you can sleep in the park. Not acceptable at all. I spent all my cash in all possible currencies and paid at the end, but I really don't recommend the hotel to anyone. The hotel itself is not bad. Quite clean and at a nice location. But I will never come back.
I am writing this review from my experience during my last stay at this hotel and as a professional hotelier. I don't think it is a 4* hotel. Pros: - great location. As I am from Kyiv I can confirm the location is very central with walking distance to many of the main attractions. - breakfast was fine. Not a huge choice of food, but it is fulfilling. Cons: -staff. Most of them don't speak English fluently enough to provide information and explain things. The lady, who checked us in was good, but not very informative. - check in. Following previous point. Not informative as I've been with my partner and he is a foreigner, and I've expected reception to give some more details as well for him. - room. The size is fine. But it was facing the street and was VERY-VERY noisy for me, as the tram is in a couple of meters from entrance. I could feel vibrations as well when it was passing by. So I couldn't sleep properly. Shower doors were broken. Room generally wasn't very clean. A/C didn't work. Safety box didn't work. Minibar fridge didn't work. - amenities. Shower amenities were fine, but no additional water provided (you'll find 2 bottles of water upon arrival as welcome drink, that's it). - safety. We came in the evening - no receptionist on spot, only cleaning lady. We came in the morning to check out - still no receptionist. There is no double lock in the room. I didn't feel safe with this situation. Generally, I would say the quality doesn't match the price.
Average quality hotel, but friendly and very polite staff. Perfect location. 3 night stay in June. All three nights our neighbors had a crazy sex party. We could hear even their conversation, not just their extremely loud screaming because of thin walls. It was awful stay in Kiev.... Never and never again I will stay there. Disgusting...
We stayed 11 days at Podol Plaza Hotel and since we were there partly for business, it was chosen for us. Lucky us! The hotel is located a block and a half from the Metro and within walking distance to drug stores, wonderful restaurants, and various sights to see. We arrived late (around 1am) and were greeted by warm and friendly staff. My room was 406 and overlooked the main street (front of the hotel). I was concerned after having read reviews but it truly was no problem. I loved to open both windows during the day to let the breeze in and hear the hustle of the city and at night, the windows drowned any noise. The walls, however, are not the same. I could hear the person in 506 above me coughing throughout the night and the person in 407 banged on my wall when I received a late phone call. I'm somewhat of a light sleeper and had no problem sleeping. At first I was discouraged that I had two twin beds but in the end, it was fine since it was just me. The shower was good except quite manic --- it would go from hot to cold in a nano-second leaving me dancing in the shower! I was reliant on internet to connect to my family and had absolutely no problems when in my room. When I went to a co-worker's room in the back of the hotel (402), I had difficulty with internet access. For this reason alone, I would recommend the front rooms. Every morning, we went for the breakfast buffet that was included with our room. It was too cold to each breakfast in the courtyard patio in the morning but by the afternoon, it was a pretty, quiet place to hang out. Breakfast was good! The same food was offered each day but with such a variety, you could switch up it. In addition to the buffet, they will make a made-to-order omlette, fried eggs or eggs benedict -- you simply have to ask. No added charge! The wait staff were pleasant and Vladislav stood out. He worked so hard at making sure all our needs were met, was a trooper at communicating in English, and recalled that my co-worker liked her morning latte. We did order room service a few times and the salads and pizza were *very good*. I really enjoyed the borscht, as well. Interesting fact -- from 11pm-7am, we were unable to charge room service to the room -- we had to pay cash. Not sure why.... Yara at the front desk was extremely helpful in guiding us where to go shopping and getting around. We really appreciated her smile and friendly demeanor. Overall, Podol Plaza Hotel was the perfect hotel for us. If we were to return to Kyiv, I might stay in another part of the City but if I was to go back to the Podil area, I would certainly stay at Podol Plaza. It was home for 11 days and I would go back in a heartbeat!
I've been to the hotel a couple times. It's nice, good location, rooms are big enough and quiet, but the hotel internet is terrible. Next time I will probably find a hotel with better internet connection.
We booked this hotel based on location and reviews. It is very well situated in Podol. The hotel is build around a small courtyard. The entrance is present and the staff are friendly. There is a security man outside the hotel the whole time - it is a fact of life in Kiev. We had two single rooms. Both were small and reasonably appointed. They were both cold (19C) and the thermostat would not heat them up, but a plug in radiator was provided. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was ok. I had a fault in that the shower doors would not seal properly but it was not a big deal. The breakfast was rather rudimentary. To sum up. It was ok not great.
