Holiday Inn Express Canterbury3.0 out of 5.0

I've stayed in this hotel twice in 4 months, first time i stayed for nearly a week and second time 2 days. The very reason i'm here is for the easy access of client i'm visiting in Canterbury and first time there were no any hotels to be booked. Now i'm trying to check out the usual way i do in all the holiday inns, even when the card for my payment was preauthorised by the company the duty manager lady refused to check me out, without presenting the card. What i don't get is, within this four months in the UK i've stayed in more than 10 holiday inns across the country and i never had this issue. Now i'm waiting in the hotel lobby waiting for a company director to come with the company card. When people use your own hotel wifi, to post a bad review you should know something has to change. The Good - Rooms were clean and nice. Cleaning staff was nice. They had really nice duty managers during night and the last time couple of months ago i checked out so i decided not to post any bad reviews. But i hope this would help another person like me who's staying here so they could go to business meetings without any hassle of checking out. I really don't understand why different holiday inns have different rules, or these people are just ignorant and been rude. Specially when i was ordering food, i heard the other 2 managers talking to each other saying the card is preauthorised so i don't have to worry about the payments.
Stayed for one night, room ok nice and clean, check in was ok as it was quiet otherwise it would have been a nightmare. Went down for an eve meal and due to its location they have a captive audience unless you want to drive to eat. The food I had was not good the burger must have been cooked either the day before or in the morning as it was dry and hard, the starter was a little better. Go out to eat. The 'poor' rating is for the food not the hotel as a whole
...as this is not ideally situated. It lies next to the A2 Southbound just north of Canterbury. If approaching from the north, look out for a BP petrol station as it is into there you will need to exit the A2, to access the hotel which lies behind. Signing for the hotel is not displayed prominently. I can imagine travellers sailing past without noticing the hotel. However, travel into Canterbury is simple, but the return journey requires passing the hotel and turning at the Dunkirk exit to rejoin the Southbound carriageway. The hotel room was standard Express HI which was comfortable as usual and adequate for our four night stay. The included breakfast was plentiful and tasty though lacking variety in cereal options. The staff were friendly and helpful. We dined in the hotel on our first evening and although a bit pricey, the meal was delicious. Would recommend this hotel but perhaps a larger sign on approach from the A2 would be helpful.
Very clean rooms, comfortable beds, nice breakfast. The location isn’t perfect taxis to Canterbury cost £11 there and £20 back so driving is the best option, though if you want a drink you have to get a taxi. It would be good if there was a bus that stopped here or perhaps a shuttle from the hotel.
this is the 4th holiday inn express ive stayed in and the worst one so far, tho, at a guess id say its the oldest..think they need to invest in some good extractor fans as the smell of food is not nice as you walk in. on 1st evening of stay we were met by a smokey haze and strong smell of burnt greasy fryers..the kitchen door to bar was open letting the food smells out into the bar/ reception.on returning to room our clothes stank of greasy food.. breakfast ok, just wish they could get the bacon crispy!! also,,and this is not hotels fault,, but why do parents allow their children to run riot around buffet area?? picking up food then putting it back, helping themselves to half a dozen muffins at a time then having a bite out of each and leaving them.. maybe children under 10 should not be allowed unacomppanied in food area.. room was ok, but again not the cleanest ive stayed in.. this is a one night stop hotel for port users, not ,as in our case for a longer stay.
Booked to stay June 2017 on the journey home from Holland. Arrived in the early evening but were told that dogs were to allowed. This as they said was on the website and i admit the issue was not there fault. Note: apparently when using Booking .com website any place you show interest in remains on the list. But be careful even when you select dog friendly hotels many inc this one come up on the list . Why is a mystery. Others have tried and the same happens. Anyway that is a booking.com issue and one they avoided by saying it said do on the description. But when faced with two tired , upset travellers with a long journey back to the North east of England offered not help or support. Not the offer of looking around to see if there might be anywhere with room or a coffee while we looked. Just smiles and its not our policy. Thanks a bunch.
A very great stay, staff polite and friendly Dila in particular, she went that extra mile, a credit to the team, good breakfast, clean rooms, for the price cannot find any faults, would stay again if in the area.
Stayed many times and always good. Very handy for the Ferry and always a good nights sleep with a good breakfast. Don't use The Travel Lodge anymore, a much nicer experience. Not much in the price but you get the buffet breakfast thrown in. Drinks not cheap but you cant have it all!
We have stayed in Holiday Inn Express hotels in several place in the uk,arrived at this one straight off a very busy main road with hardly any signing. We booked in at reception only to find there were no lifts, the receptionist tried to find us downstairs rooms but the hotel was busy,we should have made sure it had a lift before booking! Rooms were pleasant and clean, the staff seemed very low in number so the ones who were there had to really work very hard for their wages, always pleasant and helpful but clearly run off their feet! Breakfast was fine, bit of a scrummage findings seats but the most disappointing thing was the distance from Canterbury, really expected it to be closer or at least on a bus/park and ride route.
This is not a 5***** establishment. But I have given it 5***** Stars as it has always suited our needs and never disappointed. Ideal place if you do not require city centre Accommodation. Always greeted with a friendly smiling face. Rooms always neat, clean and tidy. Food always good. All reasonably priced. II find it hard to find fault with anything. One very small point. The plates they use for breakfast are too small. Why they don't have full size dinner plates I don't know?
