This is an average hotel. It is clearly understaffed. When I checked in, the receptionist was eating her lunch or supper, at least that is what it seemed she was doing at the desk. In our room, in the bathroom, there was a small door to access the plumbing. This door was open. I closed it but the latch was broken. We were there for 2 nights. The maid service did change the towels although we didn't need that. But the bed was not made. The breakfast was the usual pre-made fare. The sausage was tough. The hotel was clean enough and quiet.

This hotel was not kept up well. Metal was rusted, walls were moldy, wood was faded, peeling and worn down. The bathroom was the tiniest thing I’ve ever seen. To get out of the tub you had to push the door out of your way and the toilet is just barely cleared to exit bathroom. We got looked into the stairwell when we let our sons take the room key. We couldn’t go back into the pool area or into the hall leading to our room. My husband had to leave the stairwell and go outside and back through main entrance soaking wet and shirtless. Glad it was winter. While I was stuck waiting there, I saw they had some opening that looked like it had an AC unit at one time but was all gross and rusted and dented. It would’ve been open to the outside except for some bent chicken wire they stuffed in there. The pool was dirty. You could see hairballs underwater on the pool floor, hair caught on things in the pool like the handrails. There didn’t seem to be any filtration. The little water filter holes in the pool walls weren’t doing anything. There was a cloudiness in the water and a film on top of the water. I was so grossed out, we didn’t even eat the free breakfast and by the second night I decided I’d rather use the bathroom at Walmart before returning to the hotel at night and at my son’s college in the morning. I just wanted to leave but forced myself to stay because I knew we wouldn’t get a refund.

Renovations are nicely done--except for painting over the lovely oak-framed lobby staircase and balcony railing! Fresh carpet throughout, and room furnishings new also. Only complaint is the faint but very present smell of smoke in the room--didn't ask for a room change or report this: antihistamines help. Bed was comfortable. Close to Cracker Barrel and several blocks from a Denny's. Staff competent and cheerful.

Not what I expected

Check in took a while, towels in room were stained, carpet in hotel looked dirty. Would not come back again for the price of room and reviews were not reflective of my stay at all.
