We stayed at this quaint B&B during our 50th Anniversary Fall Foliage Trip. Katie & Craig were delightful hosts. The house was tastefully decorated; every detail carefully arranged. We stayed in the newly decorated Bridal Suite. Everything in the suite was absolutely stunning. Lovely bedroom with shuttered bay window with window seat, queen sized comfy bed, writing desk, flat screen tv in the bedroom. Large soaker tub, shower, double sink vanity on the huge bath. Breakfast was delicious. Katie prepared and egg & cheese casserole, seasoned hash browns, fresh fruit, sausage, homemade apple muffins with apple butter made from their apple tree, juice, coffee & tea.. There were two breakfast seating options. 8:00 and 9:30. We highly recommend this sweet get away and hope to visit again in the future. The Inn is close to covered bridges and the Flight 93 Memorial.
We stayed in the "bridal suite," though there was no bride-we're husbands of 11 years and we were warmly greeted on arrival by innkeeper Katie Mathis who couldn't have made us feel more welcome. We chose this room because it has both a bath and a shower in a delightful, roomy bathroom. The room is a corner room, bright and airy and wonderful. We highly recommend this immaculate home with its exquisite charm and delightful owners. A delicious freshly-made hot breakfast was provided by Katie the following morning. We've stayed at many B&B's and this was one of the best, if not the best, we've ever stayed at. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional experience with wonderful people! This is an absolutely beautiful and charming inn. The owners couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome. The rooms were beautifully done and extremely comfortable. They went out of their way to make sure our stay was the best it could be and they certainly succeeded. The breakfast was one of the best I have ever had. You can stroll around the beautiful grounds. I would highly recommend this inn to anyone who would be travelling in the area. I can't think of one thing they could have done to make our stay any better. Bud and Mimi Carr
The Quill Haven Country Inn is a charming bed-and-breakfast, managed beautifully by Katie and Craig Mathis. It is a 101-year-old building, but it hardly shows its age. The rooms are lovely, the bed in the Garden Room was very comfortable (as was the room itself, which was also immaculate), and there is a lovely garden area in the back where one can sit and enjoy the morning air. And the breakfasts were all superb! We were there for three mornings and the meals were always different, always delicious, always filling, made with fresh ingredients. There was always fruit to eat as well, which is a major plus in our book. And our hosts were delightful, a sincere young couple hoping to succeed in a very competitive market. We have stayed in many B&B's around the country, and this was one of the most memorable. If you're going to be in Somerset, or the general Pittsburgh area, ignore the chain hotels and stay at Quill Haven.
If you are visiting the Pittsburgh area, my advice is to stay at the Quill Haven Country Inn in Somerset. The area is beautiful, it's not congested like urban Pittsburgh, and it's near enough for a quick visit to the town. Quill Haven Country is one of the best B&Bs we have stayed in. The reason? It's family owned and operated, and Katie the owner is a gracious hostess, friendly and smiling and makes you feel like home. The room was sparking clean and comfy, as you would expect but not always find. Even better, Katie is a great cook and the breakfast was perfect. On our first morning we had an excellent egg souffle and turkey sausage, plus bread pudding and on our second a great spinach quiche, ham steak with potato casserole and fresh fruit. Quality and quantity left nothing to be desired for. We are good eaters and we were ecstatic. No question, if we are ever around, we'll stay again there.
An excellent place to stay for a visit to the Flight 93 Memorial only 20 minutes away. Warm and friendly, on-site owners, excellent breakfasts, attractive property set back from a busy road. Our room, the largest of four, had a huge bathroom with dual sinks, a sunken tub, and separate shower. Plenty of closet space, good TV, heated bed. Reasonably priced.
Passing through the area and know from experience that the big chains in the area are not great quality. I saw the listing for this little Inn and decided to give it a shot. BEST DECISION EVER to bypass the big chain hotels in the area (with only average ratings) and stay at Quill Haven! For the same price, you get charm and attention to detail. Delightfully themed rooms in character with the nature of the house, all same amenities of the traditional big chain places plus little extras... chocolates on the pillows, robes, beverages in the common area and a real breakfast in the morning. The innkeepers are caring and conscientious. Skip the Holiday Inn or Days Inn and make your reservation at the Quill Haven Country Inn!!
We were looking for a little getaway for the weekend from DC and it was perfect. The Rose Room was spacious, cute, and comfortable. Katie greeted us when we arrived and gave us tips where to eat dinner, etc. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful. And the porcupine theme was an added bonus! Definitely recommend!
For part of my stay I was the only guest, on a quick break between Pittsburgh and DC to get some last-weekend-of-2018-hiking in. Hosts Craig and Katie kept me company at breakfast and told me their story. They're a young couple from New Jersey who wanted to run a B&B, so they bought Quill Haven. They've put their hearts into the place and have made it just about the most comfortable little inn I've ever encountered. I can only imagine the work that goes into maintaining the inn, but they've done it with grace and charm and made me feel so welcome. I can't wait to bring my wife here next time.
We went to Laurel Highlands for a short overnight getaway and loved our stay at Quill Haven. The hosts were friendly and accommodating of my husband's special dietary needs. You can help yourself to free wine and snacks in the common room. Our room was clean, warm and quiet. Breakfast was delicious.
