maintenance is needed for facilities. insects are there, doors are broken
I like it very much but the swimming pool is not working
The room itself is nice, facilities are also nice, but I found the staff made the real difference to my stay. Courteous, helpful and exceedingly professional. They also do laundry for two items per day for each day you use the hotel, which was also a nice touch. I would definitely stay here again in the future.
I enjoyed my stay at the Sultan. It was my first time to stay at that property, and I knew of it because it used to be the Hilton. My flight to Jakarta got in very late, so that is probably the reason I wasn't overly impressed with the check-in process. However, the 15 or so Japanese Airlines stewardesses that were also waiting to check in gave the place a good ambiance. The rooms are a bit old, but in the past, I've lived in that style hotel room for years, so it is very comfortable to me. I like the spacious showers. I didn't take a swim, but I did exercise in the gym, which was loaded with decent equipment. The grounds are really picturesque, with a lot of greenery and a lush tropical feel. The signage to navigate around the property, however, was substandard. Several times I would follow an arrow and find myself in a staff-only area. I thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary breakfast buffet. I think the other reviewers that were disappointed with it probably haven't spent a lot of time eating the standard continental breakfast that you get in the U.S. Fried eggs and various noodle soups were made-to-order and there was a very generous Western and Asian spread. It was relatively easy to get a Blue Bird taxi outside of the lobby on most days, but one day there was a One Direction concert going on nearby, and the lobby was overflowed with people waiting for a taxi. Overall, it was a very nice stay. The staff seemed nice, although I normally don't bother them too much to really tell. The hotel offers a lot of value in my opinion, given the free breakfast, gym, above-average location, and comfortable rooms.
The hotel is a bit faded and doesn't entirely warrant the rate I paid for the room. The food is of a fairly low standard. Make sure to get a high floor as they have outrageously low music played in the lobby area until 1am, so take care !
