I travelled as a single man to this resort for 1 week in March. I read all reviews prior so that I was prepared for it. The resort is definitely careworn and money could be spent on updating the rooms without doubt. My view was that I anticipated 3 star accommodation and I received that .My room was clean and the food was good. I had lots of fun with the staff but the over riding feeling was that the atmosphere was friendly and laid back. It was quite quiet when I stayed so I had time to chat with the staff and Tania and Myrna on the front desk could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The waitresses and other staff were also friendly and good fun in spite of my Spanglish language skills. I had not stayed in a clothing optional hotel before but having prepared for it I was not shocked, and it actually contributes to a laid back vibe in a mature environment .If this bothers you then don't go. With regards to the working girls my view was that the hotel management kept an eye on them and would ensure that there was no untoward aggressive behaviour, but I never witnessed any and all the girls were friendly and respectful to me.I had no complaints whatsoever, and if you wanted fun with them you could, but if you wanted just to keep your distance they were very respectful and would move on or just chat at the pool bar. The hotel is on the beach and as the beach is public the hotel has no say on who may park up outside their premises. Having said that I was extremely comfortable and would walk the beach daily having to walk say 20 metres to get through the sparse tree line to the beach. It is no hardship whatsoever and my seat at breakfast in the restaurant overlooked the beach and made for some good photographic moments with the local Iguanas. The resort was quiet when I was there so I did not have any noise issues. I would say though that on Wednesday nights plan to go to BLU nightclub adjacent to the hotel as it is extremely noisy, so if you can't beat em you may as well join em..So in summary I liked my time at the Copa and met some interesting and pleasant folk there and the atmosphere was very friendly but do not expect a 4 star furnished room. It is a 5 minute walk to the main drag in Jaco so it is no hardship to use the Copa as a base in town
Very very dated, front desk area was dirty, Bathroom very scummy. Bed saggy, This place needs a total update. Way too expensive for the accommodation provided. Parking very limited. Vagrant people camping on the beach under the palm trees.
There were couples there from all over the world. I have stayed there many times. It not 5 star.but everything works. This trip was a lot fun people from 4 different country's and we all like meeting for naked cocktails. The other guest made this a good trip.
We stayed here for one night while travelling south from San Jose. Beachfront property, yes. But people staying in tents under the palm trees in front of hotel, spoiling views. Karaoke night when we stayed went on until 12:30 and had some of the worst singers I have ever heard. During the night a big piece of drywall fell off the roof overhang and this was followed by two people arguing in Spanish I assume about how to clear up the mess. So not much sleep which is needed when driving long distances in C.R! The breakfast was good though and the parking was adequate. I never saw the optional clothing area, although after seeing the other guests this was probably a good thing... Property is dated, room was small, jacuzzi was also dated, NO ELEVATOR, so you’re lugging your suitcases upstairs. I don’t think we will visit Copacabana again.
We stayed here for 5 days in January 2017. The rooms were adequate and comfortable, if somewhat dated. Yes, the entire hotel is run down and in desperate need of a paint job and some repairs and updating. The food was good albeit a bit repetitive after the 4th day. The local style food was very good but the north american style food was hit or miss. The service in the restaurant was slow, so don't be in a hurry. Actually thats not fair, the service was fine, the food just took forever to arrive. I think the chef had trouble multi-tasking. It seemed they could only prepare one order at a time. Yes,, there are prostitutes in the CO pool during the day and evening but these are not what you imagine when you think of your average north american prostitute. Remember, prostitution is legal and regulated in Costa Rica. My wife chatted with one for a while and she was working her way thru med school. They are polite, educated and not pushy at all. If you are a guy hanging out down by the pool without your wife/significant other, then you might get propositioned. A polite "no thank you" is all it takes. I cant say enough about the staff. They were very polite and friendly and helpful. In Costa Rica "beach front" is a little different than Mexico "beach front" In costa rica beaches are exclusively public property right up to where the sand stops. So resorts cannot develop or even use the beach area. As a result, there is a little walk from the resort to the beach. Not far just across the tiny parking lot and an access road ( a dirt path really) and onto the beach. Out on the beach there are people who will rent you a lounger for the day. (not associated with the hotel. remember:public beach). I loved playing in the waves but my wife hates getting her face wet so she didnt enjoy it as much. The resort is very close to town. There are casinos near by and an abundance of restaurants so if you get bored you have many options. There is one restaurant just steps away that looks like its built in a tree house that is a "must try". If you are looking for 4 or 5 star luxury; this isnt for you. If you are looking for a casual place where you can get naked and have some fun by the pool ; this is the place for you. TIP: book directly with the resort. They have the best price and you get free breakfast and wifi and a room upgrade(if available) and late checkout if you book direct. If you book somewhere else you have to pay for it. They also have AI plans and meal plans.
Nothing special at all to this hotel. Everything is average from facilities, room size, food, and service. Standard accomodation but i guess you get what you pay for. On top floor and street noise is shocking. Doors and windows rattle as well
This is one of the worst places I've ever stayed at. The room itself was decent, but the terrace and jacuzzi were filthy. The windows were so dirty you could hardly see through them. So much for an ocean view. Although my booking was for two people, I had to fight for a second pool towel and while most of the staff was friendly, the woman at the reception had a mean attitude. The place was empty at night with hardly a soul at the bar, yet they blasted loud music, so you could neither rest nor party. There was some nudity during the day, but this place is not an adult playground or a naturist's hangout. Jaco has decent nightlife, but this resort is a good 30-40 minute walk from the town center where most of the fun takes place. You can stay far closer to the center at this price. I could have stayed at a four star hotel in the middle of Paris for this much money, yet this hotel didn't even have a phone in the room. You can stay at much nicer places for the price while in Jako... and you should.
I agree with the last reviewer...this place is a dump. The only 2 good things about this place was the location and friendly front desk person. The hotel looks nothing like the pictures shown online. Our room was tiny, definitely not big enough for two people. The room as well as the overall "resort" was dirty and unkept. The room was also dark, not bright and airy as portrayed in internet photos. There were cats lying around on pool chairs like they were guests there. The "themed" party nights were dead, no one was around but the DJ on any of the nights we passed through. This was my first visit to Costa Rica and definitely the worst hotel I've stayed in. I will not be returning nor referring this place to anyone. I don't understand why this place was rated highly online. Someone obviously doesn't have good taste.
I am in disbelief that people actually have good reviews about this place! It is a run down dive!! From the water damage in our room, the smell of mildew and mold, cigarette burns on the toilet seats, shower doors that wouldn't open, no hot water (then no cold water) in the showers, toilets that don't flush, phones not working, unkept grounds, lots of mosquitos, iguana feces falling from the ceilings, paper thin walls, paint peeling off the walls, to the rancid vegetable oil the food was cooked in and served as salad dressing, mayo used in place of salad dressing, prostitutes hanging out at the bar, etc.etc.etc. We only stayed because we had already paid in advance and they would not let us cancel upon arrival.
We staying during the low season (last week), so the hotel was not very busy. The staff was wonderful and super helpful at all times. The food at the restaurant was very good and the price was comparable to other places in Jaco. We had a smaller room upon arriving, but they upgraded us to a very nice larger room. The staff was the best part! Good drinks as well at a fair price. Hotel could use some updating, but most hotels in the Caribbean and Central America do in my mind. We really enjoyed the place and are already planning on a return trip! It is just a very short walk to all the shopping and bars. Walked all over at night and felt very safe in the town of Jaco. Wish we was still there!!!!
