Stayed here overnight on our journey out of Florida to escape Hurricane Irma. Room had a musty smell and bathroom wasn't the cleanest. Otherwise, the room was spacious. There was a good selection available for breakfast - very good. Was good to stay in for the night.
When we travel as a family we stay exclusively in either a Homewood Suites or a Residence Inn because they are the only properties that offer a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite. They are moderate properties and usually provide an adequate experience. This property, however, gave us one nasty problem after another with poor response from management. I tried contacting the General Manager repeatedly only to find him out of the office and unavailable. We had one particularly horrible experience that I won't discuss in this review but will take up with Corporate. From a toilet that wouldn't flush or fill to no hot water for the shower to a non-functional telephone to former occupants' hairs in 2 of the showers (separate rooms), ad infinitum. This property is disfunctional and nasty with apathetic "management". Oh, and did I mention that the seat backs in the dining area are so filthy your hands stick to them? RUN!
Our room (2 bedroom) was very tired, but the plentiful hot, fresh breakfast more than made up for it. We would definitely consider staying here again as we drive through FL, especially if we have our dog. The only negative is Marriott charges over $150 for a pet - if you stay more than one night they don't charge you again, but for one night this basically doubles the cost of your stay.
My family stayed overnight at this Residence Inn on a trip through Florida and was pleasantly suprised at the room and hotel staff. The hotel is close to the St Johns Towne Center shopping area and the suite we reserved was just right for our party of 4. The front desk Manager, Christian, made our late night check in a breeze. Being familiar with the area, we have stayed at several other hotels over the years but this Residence Inn has made the list for places to stay on our next trip.
We called the front desk a couple of hours after checking out after realizing a personal bag with items in it were accidentally left hanging in the bathroom closet. We received coldness, apathy, condescension, and the runaround. We were willing to overlook the appearance of the hotel. It the lack of professionalism and poor customer service enhanced the crumbling reputation. Be weary of the housekeepers and lock your items. God forbid you forget anything in your room because it will be long gone.
The location is convenient. The brand is predictable. There is room to work, relax and get a good nights sleep. However, they are ready for a brand audit. The bathroom is the bar by which you measure the quality of the franchise. While all was clean and folded correctly, it is incredibly dated. There is rust around the drain, missing grout around the tub and wall paper beginning to roll up at the edges. With a rate higher than a standard Marriott property in the same vicinity, the business traveler will switch to the value choice.
The location is great for visiting UNF and the Town Center Mall. Easy access to major highways and, depending on traffic, 20 minutes from the beaches of Jacksonville. However, make sure your room is not on the backside of the hotel. Hwy 202, major highway in Jacksonville, is apprx 40 yards from the hotel. Ask for a room facing the front or side of the hotel.
This hotel is kept immaculately clean. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful; and the rooms are well maintained. The morning buffet breakfast is excellent and amply maintained by an attendant. There is more than enough parking spaces available.
We've stayed at this location several times over the years and feel at home staying there. Location is quite (close to the library!) and staff are friendly. Units are getting a little old but are well maintained. WiFi on lower floor was a little spotty.
The stay was wonderful. The staff was very professional and courteous. The rooms was very spacious and clean. They even had a crib for the baby. If you like to shop the mall was right down the street.
