Golden Horn Hotel - Special Class0.0 out of 5.0

This is a grand old dame of a hotel that hasn't had a refurb in a long time. It is the hotel you see in the pictures and but the pictures are of the more expensive suites not the general price rooms. Everything in the pictures has been dressed, including the exterior, it doesn't look quite that posh any more, it's not floodlit outside and the marble is a bit cracked the gold "leaf" on the stairwells is coming off. The reception staff are good I think, food is fine, top for view impressive. Problem is like a lot of hotels they have installed card entry locks on all the doors which you have to slam to make them shut, hence all doors in the hotel banging morning, noon and all through the night of this 24hr city. They then start room service at 7 am. Pretty inconsiderate (I was raised in a hotel my father owned and we used to start after breakfast time) - the chamber maids are doing their job so lots more door banging, slap on 7am. So if you're looking for a bit of a lie in on your holiday...forget it!
The check in was fast, the hotel accept euro. The bellboy helps with a luggage (the only good thing), we had a fifth floor, triple room 510, everything in the hotel is very old, the lining and the towels very old, on the second day of stay the cleaning service didn’t changed them for a clean ones, we went to the reception to ask a clean ones, they forgot, after a second time of reminding without any apologies they brought the towels, the room was not clean, they do not have the reception phone code in the room, the breakfast is very poor, the do not serve sweets at all, the coffee is awful, the view is not so beautiful as it was written in reviews, the location as well is not so good, as it was written, to Agia Sofia it is about 10 min by walk, for sure it is not 4 star hotel at all, i would not give it even 2 stars, a big disappointment!!!
Having visited this hotel with high expectation, they did not fail to impress. Upon entering the hotel the decor really catches the eye and creates a real Soviet Union style feel. The staff are very friendly and always happy to help with any query. The best part of the hotel has to be the amazing rooftop view especially at sunset. The view overlooks a large area of Istanbul and is definitely worth seeing. For me this hotel is the perfect choice!!
Big mistake in reserving and staying at this hotel. Please don't believe in the hotel pictures. The hotel is too old and need to be updated, the rooms are too small and in bad shape. The breakfast is okay. Some of the management are rude. In reality I don't know how the hotel got some good reviews? The hotel are closed by a good location.
This is our fourth stay at this hotel. The staff and management are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean. Breakfast is also good. Close to Eminonu and about 10-15 minutes walk to Blue Mosque. Also it is not to far from Gulhane Park and Topkapi Palace. There are nearby restaurant and cafes within walking distance.
I have stayed here in Nov 2015, The location is not good and the rooms were smaller than it appears on the photos and the bathroom was not good. It doesn't worth that much and you have to walk in little curve streets to get there. Bad Experience for me.
Stayed in the deluxe room, which as far as we could tell, had no special amenities. The essential services (bed, bathroom etc) were adequate, but the breakfast was poor, the room was very very small, and despite being raised in multiple reviews so far, the hotel seems to refuse to buy even one iron! Although being a little loud, the air conditioning worked well. The staff were perfectly polite and helpful, and happy to answer any questions. Location is great, especially if you want to see the old town. Very convenient for the T1 which takes you North across the golden horn. Overall, this hotel is fine for a few nights holiday if you're on a bit of a budget, but does nothing to stand out. While its served on the top floor, with a very nice view, I recommend avoiding the meager and lazy breakfast.
I stayed here in august 2014 for the second part of my honeymoon; the first part of which was in dubai where luxury is second to none! you could say that we were spoilt by the time we arrived at the golden horn since our new hotel room was the size of our bathroom in Dubai. This hotel is renown for its location and its view of the blue mosque. The interior had a very dated decor which if i'm honest didn't seem to be very well maintained. the facilities were just about on par with a 3 star hotel. However this is located in the heart of sultan ahmet with one of the most breathtaking views of city - it almost feels as if the hotel doesn't need an upgrade because people will still stay there regardless. There's no need to use public transport as you're based in the centre of it all. loved the city, not sure about the hotel :s
I stayed here only one night. I was shown a good room and paid in advance. However, when reached I was given another room which was old and the bathroom was specially was very bad. Location is fantastic. Breakfast was very poor and finished 9:00 am. I will not stay in this hotel again
This hotel is okay. My first room was freezing cold and smelt of sewers, after some difficulties they did move me to another room which was better however the bathroom window was constantly open, as it had a vent going through it. The shower was good which was a bonus as I managed to make the bathroom warm enough to shower in! I then had to try and keep the door shut with a shoe to keep the draught out! Staff were ok. Breakfast was ok. Location was brilliant and definatly the main positive for this hotel. Ask the hotel for directions or use Google maps as it isn't obvious when you leave the metro station.
