The hotel is cute and very close to the beach and downtown but there were many issues. The management of the hotel was terrible. I met 3 people on the front desk, Pablo was very nice, Paco was very nice too and Karina which was terrible. She dealt with all the issues. She had no management skills at all, she always said she was sorry for the issue but then went about to argue and explain herself with no end. Breakfast was included but was terrible. No drinking water or cups in the rooms. They only give you 2 bath towels and 1 hand towel, which were very old and rugged, if you ask for another one they wouldn’t give it to you. There was barely any soap for the shower, tiny bar of soap. The maids wake you up in the morning to try to make the room as they don’t have a do not disturb sign on the door knob. One of the days we had no water from 5pm until 1:30am, and she wasn’t nice about it or tried to help us at all (like bringing water for the toilet only at least). Pablo was nice about it and was trying to help us until she got involved in the conversation. Not a cheap hotel, definitely not worth the money and the effort to argue with her about everything. It could nice if it was managed properly. We booked 7 rooms for my entire family and in the reservation there was a triple room for 3 young adults. When we got to the reception to check in, Karina said that there were no triple rooms, only one room with 2 beds. After a long time trying to figure out a solution, we decided that 2 of the young adults will sleep in one bed (not ideal) and the other one will sleep in the second bed. She gave all the keys out to all the 6 couples and the 3 young adults. When we got to the rooms, 2 rooms out of the 6 rooms with couples had 3 beds!!!! She wasn’t aware of that and had no clue, so at that point we were going to switch a couple with the 3 young adults. However, the 3 young adults original room smelled terrible, like sewer and was inhabitable. We had to go to the reception again and argue with her, she said that maintenance was going to clean the room while we were out for dinner and bring the bed down. After dinner we got to the hotel and the room smelled better but they never brought the bed down and she said we didn’t agree on that. She even tried to confront me in front of my kids (young adults) regarding the third bed decision. I will never go back to this hotel.
The rooms are extremely poor furnished, the public areas are very small and not very confortable, The Pool is very small, ir doesn’t have a restaurant or shops. The hotel is clean and the staff is very amable.
Holbox is only about 250 km from Cancún, you can fly from there or take the freeway. The island is a magic place, no cars are allowed, their sand streets give it a very traditional and original view. The hotel is also simple but with everything you need to relax. The rooms are big and very pretty, you can cook and keep food in the fridge there.
• Located 3.min. from the beach- and a short walk downtown. • The rooms looks much better on the pictures. • It seems like the front desk is run by teenagers 25/7. Lack of experience- and professionalism. • We asked them to order us a taxi (we changed hotels), she vanished without confirming- it turned out she didn’t order it. • They would knock on our door early in the morning while we were still sleeping to clean our room- we kindly asked them to clean the room while we were having breakfast. The reply we got was “mañana”. That resulted us not having our room cleaned- and no change of towels for most of our stay. • They would run out of food for breakfast. We just ate fruit, but still quite annoying. • Not able to connect to the WiFi as it was in the “common hotel area” - everybody was there. We were changing hotels - frustrating not to be able to book further arrangements from the hotel. • Most hotels have bikes free of charge for their guests- this hotel had dirty rusty bikes for 50 pesos for two hours.
The Good: Strong Aircon Decent breakfast Free towels to take to the beach The Bad: Toilet leaked all over bathroom floor Shower and taps very weak and temperature unpredictable Staff friendly but a bit useless - it took several attempts to get someone to come and look into the leaking toilet,we requested to change room and were told they would investigate the possibility and someone would let us know - no one let us know (after much chasing, we did change room, and it wasn't much better) No WiFi in room and weak in reception Breakfast chaotic and ran out of items that weren't replaced Small pool No sunloungers Filthy floors Noisy children (not hotel's fault) The Ugly: The cherry on top is that they make you sign a patronising disclaimer when you arrive saying that you will pay for any dirty towels or linens. It even goes into detail of the type of stain, e.g. suncream, make-up etc. Also includes other hotel rules to abide by. Holbox is beautiful but overall very disappointed we chose this hotel especially as we paid US$130 per night for a couple. Been in Mexico for 2 week and by far the worst place we've stayed.
We rented a two bedroom, two bath suite at something around 300.00 USD per night. One bathroom did not have a toilet seat. The front desk staff appear to be a close knit family, all with attitude. Beware the worse of the group is a girl named “Sonny” who is dictatorial and rude. The breakfast was simple and enough to go around although if you wanted tea instead of coffee you are charged 25 pesos per tea bag. The pool was crystal clear the day we arrived. Day two produced many babies and young children which we believe caused the pool to turn dark green the following day. No amount of chemicals will put ones mind at ease. We were told that rooms are cleaned from 12-3. We managed to finally have the job(s) accomplished at 5:30. Trying to get soap, shampoo and conditioner is a daily battle. It’s was never left in the room requiring multiple trips to the reception desk. Sheets are changed every two days unless they decide to change them every three days. If you do not ask it will not happen. There is nothing redeeming about this place.
The hotel is comfortable, the breakfast was fine, but if you are 100% exigent this is not the place for you. The pool was very dirty...:( Holbox is very wild in this season rained too much and you can find in any sand street deep stinky and large ponds, you cant even walk...with small children's is difficult to move
The breakfast area was very small, some extra tables and chairs would have been helpful. The wifi connection was poor as well, but it didn't hurt too much as I didn't come to Holbox to scroll on the phone. It's a beautiful hotel, we had a room on the upper floor with partial sea view. It also has a very nice rooftop terrace. Everything was clean, the bed was super-large and the overall style of the hotel was cozy. It's quite close to the sea-side as well, though not at the beach. The staff was very helpful and spoke good English.
The hotel is quite cute, walking distance to beach (not really a view). Breakfasts are OKish, pool is quiet and small, but nice for a quick dip and it has a nice terrace with swings and hammocks. The second floor has a nice sitting area where we often had meals. One of our rooms had a kitchen, but it was poorly stocked (not dish soap or many cooking utensils or dish towels plus electric stove barely boiled water after 10-15min!)- but the fridge is nice and big! and the eating area is quite useful.
We stayed here for two nights and it was a nice little get away. The hotel is quite small but it was perfect for our stay. Travelling with another couple we had a two bedroom unit which included a kitchenette, two bathrooms, breakfast, and was close to the beach (5min walk) and town (7-10 min walk). The rooms are fairly sparse but were clean, air conditioning in each room, a good size table and chairs for meals or cards, no tv, and the kitchenette area had a microwave, small fridge and a few dishes. There is a small pool and hammocks on the rooftop which was perfect for our “bring your own” happy hour and sunset. Breakfast was pretty basic but filled the hole and there is the option to order a hot breakfast at an additional cost. Beach towels are available at the front desk. The beach itself was very nice. Sand as far as you can see and warm water. Lots of beach bars along the way to town and not a lot of people trying to sell you stuff. All in all a very nice place not yet overwhelmed with big high end hotels and tourists. Hopefully it will retain some of its eclectic charm for a few more years
