This has to be the best hotel on the island. It most definitely has the very best beach. As you travel down the beach away from Villas Caracol and closer to the town center, the sandy road between the hotels and the beach gets wider and wider, making the beach feel like a separate public area from the hotel. In addition, a mote-like separation develops between the beach and ocean and the road. That mote grown and shrinks depending on low or high tide, but never disappears. During low tide it smells. if you go the other direction away from the hotel, the beach becomes rocky and the area a bit swampy. By contrast, the beach in front of Villa Caracol has a narrow road between the hotel and its beach. It has lounge chairs reserved for its guests covered by beautiful cloth sails for shade. The beach and water there are extraordinary. You feel instantly transported to paradise. The beach feels part of the hotel, as opposed to the removed feeling at other hotels. The food at the hotel is wonderful. They are building a new beach side restaurant, but are so discrete with the construction that you barely hear it or know it is occurring. I cannot wait for it to be completed to go back. The staff at the hotel are expert at what they do. Service is clearly paramount. You receive excellent service that is never oppressive or intrusive. They seem to just know what you will need when you are ready for it. The pool is so lovely. The swim up bar is a great place to hang out and the waiters and bartenders are so wonderful. They also provide excellent service at the beach. The reception desk will call you golf cart taxis to town and set up any other ventures you want to take. They are knowledgeable and helpful. Our time there was 100% worry free. The housekeeping staff is equally wonderful. They kept our two adjoining rooms (one for three kids and the other for parents) impeccable and left us delicious desserts each night when we got home from dinner. They did all of this while seemingly invisible because they never intruded on the space when we needed it. Again, another hallmark of excellent service. The breakfast each morning was delicious, the drinks were fabulous, the lunches (particularly the ceviche) were outstanding. There is virtually nothing this hotel can do better. It is everything you want from a boutique luxury beach hotel without the luxury price. The food and drinks were so affordable that we could let our kids order any fancy drinks they wanted all day without feeling we were being price gouged. The only issue -- which proved not to be one -- was that the island (not the hotel) lacks functioning wifi or cellular service. This issue is not unique to the hotel. It is island-wide. It can make it difficult to communicate with the hotel before arriving and to communicate with the outside world when you get there. For us, it was a hard adjustment, but eventually it made the trip so much better for us to be able to disconnect and be with our family. It was the trip of a lifetime and the hotel was a very big reason why. The island, swimming with whale sharks, seeing bio luminescence, snorkeling, seeing flamingos, visiting Chicken Itza, swimming in cenotes were all amazing but they could have been diminished by a lousy hotel. This hotel was perfection and made the whole island feel like heaven on earth. For large families, this hotel has one adjoining room. It is a King poolside room with its own little plunge pool on its patio with an adjoining double room with two queen size beds. It was a perfect set up for parents traveling with children. I could not find any other hotel that had similar accommodations. If you want that set up, make sure to communicate via email with the hotel in advance when you want to book to secure the adjoining rooms or they may not be available. Don't hesitate to book this hotel or visit the island. You won't regret it. And Holbox is Sargossum free even in the summer. Everywhere else is a gamble. We met people at the hotel who had left Tulum because the smell and sargassum were unbearable. This water and beach are unparalleled. Go and stay at this hotel. I checked out many others before going and after we arrived and I feel like I hit the jackpot having booked Villa Caracol. I cannot thank them enough for this very special family vacation. They made a beautiful memory for us and our kids.
From beginning to end everything was perfect. They set up all of our transportation for us bc we were coming from Playa del Carmen. Driving up to the property was breathtaking, the pictures do not do it justice. I love that it is a smaller property you get a lot of privacy. The proximity to the beach was exactly what we wanted. I had a massage on the beach at sunset. Montesemat was the best she gave up tips on where to go and what times are the best for certain things. We would not have had as much fun without her. She also fixed our transportation on the way back someone forgot to book it. Every staff member paid attention to every small detail. The property is well maintained and the food is good. What more could you ask for! My advice is GO!!! You won't regret it, best romantic vacation spot. Also Holbox beat my trip to Bermuda it is a much more beautiful beach than horseshoe bay.
Aside from a minor screw up with our ground transportation ( it was forgotten and we had to fend for ourselves) the hotel was great. Our room was clean and completely satisfactory in every way. The service, though at “island pace” was top notch and thoughtful. Only drawback was that there was some construction going on to build a more permanent restaurant closer to the beach side of the property. It would have been nice to know about it more than a week before our arrival but, whatever. We rolled with it and it’s probably done by now. Complimentary breakfast was solid. Coffee was good. The beach food service was adequate if you’re too lazy to go into town. I wouldn’t recommend a full dinner but for a few tacos, perfectly fine. The beach itself is right in front of the iconic “HOLBOX” hammocks and sign so there may be competition for those coveted hammock seats. But this is paradise. Big thank you to “Fany” who kept our room clean and provided top quality service daily. And to all the staff there, amazing job. Aside from the transfer from the airport to the island. But if you read this, stay away from Holbox. It’s not the tropical paradise that it appears to be. There is no internet. No phone service. You’ll be disappointed. Leave the island to me.
Had a lovely stay in this small well appointed boutique hotel. We had a beautiful room which the photos didn't do justice tbh on booking.com - it was so spacious, clean and modern! Breakfasts were absolutely delicious - each day we tried something new! It's so relaxed and welcoming. The staff were so friendly - nothing was too much! Everyone in reception was helpful and the waiters were always smiling! Would return in a heartbeat!
Excellent boutique hotel with very careful attention to detail. Wonderful staff, excellent food, beautiful pool, and perfect beach! The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were well appointed and very clean.
Nicely appointed rooms, spacious with just what you need. The service here is what is the key. From Flavia at the front desk to David at the bar, everybody was nice and fun to be around. Good location on the beach - a little more quiet since it is farther away from the town. Nice breakfast that is included.
we stayed 4 nights in Holbox,. The Hotel was very adequate, the staff was friendly. Jose the bartender gave me a tutorials on Tequila and Mescal. rooms were clean and comfortable. Food was decent, drinks were excellent
A fabulous hotel which has been recently renovated to a high standard with great attention to detail, and right on the beach. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food from the beach restaurant was delicious (especially the shrimp tacos). The only small criticism (made by our teenage children!) was the limited WiFi, which I understand is an island wide issue, but not really a problem when you are staying on a tropical paradise. Thank you Villas Caracol, I hope we come back one day
Really nice hotel next to the best part of the beach. Spacious and comfortable room. If you can choose the rooms on the first floor facing the sea. Very nice and friendly staff. Nice swimming pool. Very good food.
We had a great family trip to Holbox. The staff at Villas Caracol was excellent. They were always helpful and welcoming. Smiles all around! They even helped us work on our Spanish. We hope to see them all again soon.
