Well when I travel around the country on business's I've stayed in some dives before but this one wins the Best hole award hands down. It's safe to say I'll never ever stay in a Campanile every again. What was wrong? 1) The cleanliness was poor 2) The room look like something from the 1960's. 3) If you open the window you get everyone walking past smoking which lingered into your room. 4) The noise if ridiculous based on the main road you get sirens (which is acceptable) then cars revving and all sorts. Very very noisy and you can't get a good nights sleep. 5) uncomfortable beds 6) Thin quilts 7) 1 Power plug in the whole room. So if you want to watch TV whilst hanging your phone forget it! And making a brew whilst watching CORONATION street is a no goer. 8) Restaurant prices are a rip off hence why I went To a local cafe instead. 9) No fridge 10) Tiles in the bathroom need replacing!!! They look so dirty and old I refused to have a shower. 11) The shower head was covered in grime and all sorts of crap. Never ever again will I return to this dive.
The Campanile is a budget hotel so don't expect too much. The rooms are crying out to be refurbished - very basic. The positives were the location for the city centre / the bed was comfy / surprisingly quiet / free car parking / breakfast was good
We stayed here for a weekend break and booked for 2 couples. We have stayed in Campanile hotels many times and, like so many of them now, the rooms were very tired and looked like they needed a good coat of paint. The safety chain on our door did not work. The paintwork around skirting level was grey/black. Our second room was even worse! The bathroom was clean but very outdated - however the shower was good pressure and plenty of hot water. The second room's outside shutter did not close properly so allowed light in. We had breakfast in the hotel on our last morning and it was good value and well cooked. We didn't use the wifi as we hadn't booked direct so would have been charged for it...good 4G though! Excellent location for anyone visiting the area - everything was within walking distance so the car stayed in the carpark for 2 days. All rooms seemed to back away from the road so it was surprisingly quiet at night.
I booked this hotel 4 days prior to my visit. I turned up at hotel at 2045 to be told they had cancelled my booking because there was a problem with my card prior to my arrival, was told I had been called about this and should check and return Amy missed calls, when I checked I had been called at 1950 no message left. No apology when asked why they tried to take payment prior to my arrival she shrugged So I was 5 hours away from home it was dark outside and I had to find somewhere else which I did. There was no issue there and funny enough my card worked fine. The staff here were not helpful and very matter of fact Please avoid this hotel
Scruffy rooms, untidy in general , bed was ok but tv poor,, shower poor, restaurant very quiet but food was ok,,, staff pleasant,, in general not bad place but wouldn't go out my way to stay again especially with choice of other hotels in the area.
Asked for a disabled room as the wife not that agile and had room 2 on the ground floor facing the car park. As soon as you opened the room noticed the safety chain was broken off. Light switch by the bed was cracked and very sharp. Tiles were falling away from the wall by the bath. Emergency switch was pulled and no one came in the four days we were staying there. There was a large hairline crack in the wash basin, any pressure would of broken it. Just three coat hangers for two of us. A lot of the Tv stations were not working not even BBC2. Paint was peeling from the bottom of the doors. Bathroom ceiling plaster about to fall off in corner by bath. NO HAND RAIL by the bath even though it was a disable room. They expect some one with a disability to lift there leg 24 inches to get into the bath with nothing to hold on to. Very Bad. £3 for wifi unless you book direct with them. Out side paint was peeling off the wood work but the garden area was well maintained. The good points were that it was well located for the city and there was free car parking. The restaurant was small but the food cooked well and reasonable prices.
Staff helpful, well maintained grounds, and the site has plenty of car parking spaces, but these were about the only good points. Room had a filthy carpet and an iron burn. No electrical sockets to charge devices, and Wi-Fi is a paid for extra if you do not book direct. The room overlooked a busy road, so sleeping was difficult because of the noise, or difficult because with the window closed the room was stuffy. At some time recently the room had been decorated; whoever did it left paint marks and runs which would have made an effort by a child look professional. Bathroom fittings were old. Just a depressing room to be in for a couple of nights. Externally, crumbling concrete, rotting woodwork, peeling paint, dirty matting throughout. Apparently a refurbishment programme was promised but no sign of this! The site is beyond refurbishment: it needs demolishing. Don't be fooled by the photos! Very poor accommodation.
I booked this hotel through Booking.com, for one night and paid £50 This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. On arrival the reception looked clean and tidy, however the accommodation block looked very tired. The first non smoking room we were allocated on the upper floor, stank of stale cigarette smoke so strong I could taste it. I returned to reception to complain and was given the room next door. This room was dismal and in dire need of refurbishment. The Pest Control insect detector under the desk was rather daunting. The bedding and towels were the only clean items in the room, however, the towels were wet and had to be replaced. The carpets were filthy and the bathroom disgusting with a strong smell of cigarette smoke coming from the extractor fan, the taps were dirty and the tile grout falling out. Only one of the bathroom lights was working. The hair dryer had a large crack in the body and had it worked would have been extremely dangerous. The room faced on to the main road and the traffic noise was horrendous. Only one spare electrical socket is provided, a complete joke when you need to charge 2 mobile phones and a tablet. The advertised free WiFi is only available if you book direct with the hotel and a charge £3 per day if you have booked through a third party. At check out I expressed my dissatisfaction at the lack of maintenance in the room and was told my comments would be passed on. This is the last time I book a Campanile hotel.
Think of any american movie where they check into a motel. It's like that, the Campanile, and for that reason I love it. The much newer nearby Travelodge looks down on it, but there's something quite romantic about a basic room with en suite, where you can pull back the curtains and pretend to be looking out for the baddies. You can't do that in the travelodge, no siree. They have a restaurant on site, should you wish to eat there, but this is Hull, this is City of Culture, your car is parked safely and securely, and you're a stone's throw away from everything that's happening in Hull. go out and enjoy the city. The Campanile is inexpensive, it promises nothing and delivers in spadefuls, and you get to pretend to be hiding out from the baddies.
We booked four night in this place. We didn't stay. It was shabby, depressing, unclean and dismal. Holes in walls had been patched up. The shower head was filthy. Net curtains didn't hide the fact we were on the corner and EVERYONE had to pass our window to get to their room. The beds were uninviting, narrow singles with washed out bedding. The countertops were broken and blistered. The tiny 'table' between the two beds had raw edges and was marked and damaged. Outside the railings were damaged, missing and dangerous. The pathway to the room needed a serious clean and repainting. They were scored only 3 by Environmental Health!!!! When my husband handed the key back, after half an hour, and said we couldn't stay there the receptionist just said 'okay' 😳😳😳we've asked for a refund but been told it's not company policy and as we didn't complain it was our fault!!!!
