I stayed with my family for 2 nights at the intercon Huizhou during Chinese New Year. We booked 3 hotel standard rooms and 1 villa. The rooms costed around 1600 RMB a night each and the villa a hefty 4800 RMB a night. The room floors were dirty and everything needed repair. Many of the amenities of the hotel were closed like its golf course and the lake where you can rent paddle boats. It just seemed like no one cared for quality. The villa, which boasted a private pool and hot springs tub were so dirty, and had be cleaned again. the hot springs pool's Jacuzzi nozzles were broken, the mosaics on the outdoor bathtub was falling out and the faucets were rusty. It is very obvious that the hotel was falling apart. The only nice thing I can say about my stay was the hotel staff who tried their best to accommodate our requests However, it was definitely not worth the money and not up to InterCon standard. I feel very cheated as I have stayed in other InterCon hotels and was never let down like this.
Find a place with less people in Guangdong is difficult. My friend suggest the Huizhou Intercon which is far from Huizhou city and there is hot spring too. Hotel is 8 years old and there is a hot spring pools and Gold course nearby. Good deal from one of the popular hotel sites. Hotel is working with some renovation but it doesn't affect our rooms. Pretty nice room although it is a little bit rundown on wooden floor. Nice restaurant offers good food and the hot spring pool is pretty modern but nice.
This was my second time at this resort. My memory of the first experience was about one hotel in a wonderful place but that needed urgent care. This time I was invited by a friend and we were upgraded to a villa. Positive advice: 1. If you can take a villa: privates hot spring and cold swimming pool. Unforgettable. 2. Enjoy the service of the friendly staff. Specially at the restaurants where Peggy (at the Chinese restaurant) and Jayson (at the Café Veranda Restaurant) are leading enthusiastic teams that are kind and always ready to please you. Everything we tried from the menu was delicious and I only can congratulate who is in charge of the cookers team. To be considered as improving areas: 1. The Club. Nothing to compare to a standard Club in any other hotel of the group (can you imagine that you don’t have a beer or a gin tonic? just a bottle of wine is available at the Club). 2. The details. It is clear that the management do not pay attention to the small things (lights have mixed colors on the lamps, from the bright white till the warm yellow; you have to ask for more soap on the bath or extra towels in a place that is supposed that you are enjoying with the water; you have a kitchen but no refrigerator, etc.). Seams that the management is saving on the pinups. 3. The surroundings. I remember a nice place to take a walk but now everything is closed (the bridge to cross to the other side of the lake, the outdoor forest hot spring…). Seams again to save on the pinups. What is unacceptable: The payment with a foreigner credit card provide a bank slip where you don’t realize that they are converting the local currency to the currency of the country where the credit card is issued. There is small letter saying that they offered you to choose the currency option and that for “the currency service" they will charge you a fee of 3,6%!!!. Of course they didn’t “offered” any option and of course they charged the expensive “service fee”. Another example that the management of the hotel is concentrate in the small money and not on providing great experience. It is a pity. In any case, knowing what the traps are, I will go back and take care of myself.
Usually I am more of a review reader rather than a writer. But, a recent visit to the resort just leaves me no choice but to write this review to get other travelers aware how poor the condition of this resort is. 1. The hotel is obviously having a long fight against high humidity. But be frank, the hotel is losing the battle. Molds can commonly be found on all external areas of the resort. No matter it's concrete surface, stucco wall finishes, or even floor tiles, molds are just everywhere. Some wall finishes even start peeling off. 2. The water in the outdoor hot spring pool (7/F) is greenish in color. Probably it indicated the presence of high level of fungi. Leaves are floating on the surface of the water. Dead insect bodies can easily be found. Water quality in outdoor poor is better but still dead insects and leaves can be found. 3. The room condition is disastrous. Spider webs are found on lighting fixtures. Balcony door and mosquito nets are broken. Curtain between bathroom and bedroom is broken. Watermark and damages are found on timber flooring. It absolutely looks more like a dirty motel room than a 5-star hotel room. The only positive thing about the resort is that the staffs are generally very polite with smile on their faces. Overall, the resort is lack of proper maintenance and it is a total disgrace to the brand name of InterCon and IGH. I probably will get a standard reply from the hotel management saying they will communicate my feeback to related department…blah blah blah….but whatever, the hotel is totally not recommended and definitely not worthwhile coming back.
3.5 stars, our stay was in 2015. We wanted a quite weekend to relax and this resort seemed to fit perfectly. It's tucked away in a rural area in Huizhou, and has an authentic source of hotspring (we heard there were many pretend hot spring hotels in China that actually just use hot water). The things we enjoyed: - big, comfortable bed - different pools of hot springs to choose from - friendly staff - strolling around the resort after dinner (saw some fireflies too) - relaxing in our balcony Things that need improvement: - we rented a bike from the resort to explore the surrounding area, but were stopped at the gate: it turned out that the bikes were only good for inside the resort ... the resort was of a good size but was way too small for bikes, we rented it for 2 hours and ended up circling the resort a few times and returning it early. The fact that the bikes had to stay in the resort were never communicated to us when we rented them. - the rooms were a bit dated and smelled moldy, we've been to many hotels that had to deal with similar humidity but didn't have the problem - there were constructions going on in many places, and it seemed that they've been at it for a while Overall it was a pretty good experience, but this is definitely one of the less impressive Intercontinentals we've been to.
The overall a package of rooms, food and hot springs made for a relaxing weekend. Our rooms were very large with the most comfortable king sized bed with a spacious bathroom and a fantastic shower, make that "cyclonic shower". The dinner and breakfast buffet had plenty of choice that would satify any appetite. The highlight was the choice of hot spring pools ranging from cool to very hot. The staff were very friendly. Next time we would stay at least two nights so we could enjoy all the facilities as we did not get to experience the spa treatments. The facility also had a very large indoor pool but we could not go padt the hot springs
I read all recent negative comments on this ihg property before I booked and wish to give it a chance. But, I am totally wrong. All adversed comments on it are true and that this resort hotel deserved no star at all and is a total disgrace to the Intecontinental brand. I pity all the devoted working staff there who already tried their best to provide good services to guests, however they were not supported by the very dated infrastructure and facilities in this property. My advice is to avoid this hotel resort until they change their management and finish their so- called renovation which has been going on for years.
We had a short stay over in mind, but after we realised that the hotel is about to loose the fight against thee ever present humidity - we were very happy to leave ASAP. Luckily we called our agency, and they arranged with the front desk that the booking is canceled without additional costs or hustles. The scent of mould is ever present, especially in the rooms. Everywhere they are trying to repair the damage due to humidity, but it seems they are loosing the fight. Just take a look at the pictures...
This is by FAR the biggest hotel I have ever visited. Unfortunately, the floor plans were extremely unclear; walking between one room and the other took a very inconvenient 10-15 minutes, while it took me 25 minutes to maneuver around the GIGANTIC hotel to find the swimming pool. Additionally, the location of the hotel is extremely poor, approximately an hour away from Huizhou's city center. Moreover, wi-fi is rather unstable and weak. We had one club room alongside one club premier room. We would definitely prefer the lower-costing club double room, because the hot tub in the club premier room is actually outdoors, full of mosquitoes, and the extra space is occupied by the spa table. Otherwise, the rooms were very luxurious, spacious (like the hotel) and fitted with all amenities.
My jaw dropped when I first entered to this Resort, it definitely does not match the standard of the 5 stars international brand at all. Very disappointing. 1) Poor directions with complex floor plan There are 6 joint buildings and the lifts do not access to each level and you have to find the right lift to get to the floor you stay. There are very little directions signs and we always wasted a lot of time on finding the correct lift and we have to took the long way to walk from a building to another building. There were little maps and they were confusing to read. 2) Poor maintenance The Resort is a very beautiful building! BUT it resembles me of an abandoned castle after a chaos. The paints are peeling off and water dropped from the ceiling on the corridor. Wasted constructions materials were just discarded around the corner without cover. The roofs are broken. 3) Poor in-room facilities The room is poorly maintained. The cleaner did not fold the towels properly. The slippers were not brand new. The were stain on the water tap, and around the tank. The toilet seat is uncomfortable to sit on. Good things about this hotel are that the surroundings of the hotel is very natural, but the garden is poorly maintained and the staffs are polite and friendly. However, I would not recommend my friends and families to stay at this Resort.
