Hotel is great. Neat, compact, free wifi, good range of food for breakfast, and comfortable bed. When we were about to go out for some exploring, the bloke in reception warned us it was going to rain, so we went and put on our wet gear and off we went. No rain, just light snow. Of course My wife in these situations has no self restraint at all. Yes, throwing a snowball at her husband. Of course being Sunday pretty much everything is closed, but it was fun walking around in the snow. I have to say that even with our special snow boots we were both very cautious about slipping over, but we didn’t. Found a few tourist shops ready to sell us stuff so we did our bit for the local economy. Some shops had signs saying Closed For The Season. They clearly don’t rely on silly Australian tourists during winter. Still, it’s a very pretty place. We had coffee at Starbucks, then wandered back to our hotel where the bloke in reception said, “How was that?” “Cold and wet,” I replied. “That’s Bergen in a nutshell,” we were told.
I really enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is old as would be expected but beautifully maintained and obviously upgraded. It was very modern European with old European charm. While the rooms are small they are very comfortable and accommodating. My room was perfectly quiet and I enjoyed three very good nights sleep. I loved the heated bathroom floors. The staff was friendly and always willing to help. Kim checked me in, but all other staff members are equally deserving of praise including the chef. On the morning I left he invited me to have breakfast even though it was early and not set up. By the way~ an excellent breakfast is served daily. The location is perfect, on the harbor. Many attractions, restaurants, clubs and shops are just a short walk away. Great price, great place, great stay! No doubt I'd stay there on my next visit to Bergen.
VERY LITTLE HEAT. CANNOT MOVE IN ROOM BECAUSE SO SMALL. awful awful room. I arrived late and was extremely tired. There was very little heat in the room. I was too tired so I slept dressed since I only had one blanket. Its not a room but a closet. Could not shower, just too small and too cold.
My wife and I took a quick vacation flight from Providence, RI (USA) to Bergen, Norway. We stayed at the Best Western. We found the location of the Hotel to be excellent, walking distance to everything a visitor might want to do in Bergen. Our room accommodations were very comfortable and accommodating. The best part of the hotel was it's Norwegian Breakfast, I never had three varieties of herring for breakfast before. The food was excellent, the service provided by "Ann Karin" the breakfast hostess was just perfect. Their bread is freshly baked and delicious. My wife loved the home made yogurt and the wild berry toppings. The front desk was also very accommodating, ask for help from Olaug or Mikkel and they will go out of their way to help. We would stay here again.
This wasn’t the cheapest hotel available, so I was expecting better. The hotel looked tired, despite the rooms having been decorated, it still had a shabby feel. I had a double room. The bed was a small double, the room was very small. Tea & coffee making facilities were basic. No teaspoon to stir the drinks. Water already in the kettle on arrival. I had to pull out the TV socket to be able to plug in the kettle. When I went down to breakfast, there was not enough seating for everyone. I will not be staying here again & don’t recommend it.
The location is very convenient since it is close to the downtown area as well as train terminal and ferries. It is also quite quiet. Room was neat and staff were very fast. However, we requested a double bed but had to singles that were pushed together. Not very nice.
After having stayed in a Best Western in Oslo, this hotel was a better surprised as the rooms are refurbished and include a modern touch with coffee/team making facilities and better amenities. The location is 5 min by foot far from a bus stop where you can be connected to any place in the city, also there you can take the bus to Bergen Central station which is only 10 min away. The rooms were clean and breakfast was traditionally continental. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
when we booked I asked for a high floor with good view not to small as I walk with a walking stick just a basic room overlooking offices and roof tops Then the problem started the shower sorry hose pipe not a shower and the bathroom flooded every day so DANGEREST I ASKED THE ROOM MAID SHE SAID ALL THE ROOMS ON THAT FLOOR WERE THE SAME The hotel is situated on streets Graffiti as well it is a good walk from the bus station and a longer walk to the train station 200 nok taxi fare as there are no public service buses or trams near the hotel they seem to concentrate on there coach parties and not individuals breakfast average only bacon if you have a fried egg then you have to avoid the time the coach parties are having breakfast or no room
I was a bit worried about this hotel after reading the reviews but I got a great deal in an expensive city so went for it. We were very happy with the hotel. It is not 5 star but is clean and central to everything bergen has to offer. The airport bus stops at the fish market and the hotel is a few blocks back along the water. The town shops are 5 min walk and the train 10 mins walk. We were given a good sized room on the 6th floor with views of the mountains over the rooftops. I loved that we could open the windows. There was a safe in room but no fridge. For the price we payed we couldn't have been happier. Wished they had a few more English channels on to as we could only watch the depressing news.
If your answer to finding an hotel in Bergen is to walk back from the waterfront to the graffiti strewn side streets, complete with dumped electric ovens then this hotel is, literally, right up your street. Trip hazards are the order of the day in the corridors, akin to a ship's bulkhead. A panoramic view from our bedroom of the neighbouring roofs and overlooking dormer windows was complimented by meals being taken in the hotel lobby, complete with the automatic open front door to ensure you didn't overheat as you consumed the set culinary delight, and the reception desk at your elbow. At least it was clean, if basic.
