Holiday Inn Hohhot4.0 out of 5.0

Two night stay on a business trip. I had room service food on one night, trained in the gym, all very good and up to the same standards for Holiday Inn anywhere. A special mention to the reception staff who I found extremely helpful and accommodating and continued to make an effort to ensure I was being looked after. The customer service and attention to detail was exceptional.
I spent 3 days here during my business trip. I have never been to this part of China before (usually just Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhan, Hebei & Shandong). Honestly, I had a very nice stay. They have shuttle service from/to the airport (Hohhot Baita). Getting around was not too difficult for me because I had my Chinese colleague to show me around. The breakfast was alright, I have no problem. Location-wise, it is quite central. You can find a lot of restaurants out on the streets, they also have some mini malls nearby. The staff was helpful but if they could improve their english communication, it would be a good improvement. Luckily I have my colleague to help me translate. One good thing is that the room was spacious and the room rate is quite cheap (for me). Because I would to pay double or even triple the amount for the same room size in Beijing or Shanghai.
We spent only one night at the hotel. Thanks to the excellent central location, however, we managed to walk to a mosque one block away and two major sightseeing spots: Five-Pagoda Temple (Wutasi, ~25 minutes on foot, open until 6 pm) and Dazhao Temple (another ~10 minutes on foot, open till 7 pm). Next to the Dazhao Temple is the ancient-style streets with various shops. The hotel is about 30 minutes by taxi from the airport (~40 RMB). It has a complimentary shuttle service (1 pm and 5 pm from the airport). The staff are friendly. The room is spacious, and it has a large safe, big enough for a laptop, and provides two complimentary bottles of water. The hotel has a small fitness center, which I did not have time to use.
Hohhot has a common problem no matter which hotel you go to, the toilet cleanliness is bad. I suspect they use the same cloth to clean urine off the toilet bowls to clean the entire toilet. This must be from the same trainer who taught everyone... In my previous visits to this hotel over the last 3 years, this problem did not surface. However in my last visit the toilet stank of urine. The toilet seat was soiled with some brown stick substance. The air conditioning of this hotel is very poor. The hotel is very old and in need of upgrading. The towels are very worn and torn at the edges. As a result of poor air conditioning, the pillows all smell of sweat. Imagine lying on a pillow smelling of someone else's sweat. The rest of the staff (save for the room keeping staff), have been most helpful, but they can only do so much with debilitated hardware.
The service was beautiful, everyone was so kind and helpful and some even spoke good English! Rooms are lovely, comfy, spacious and clean! Breakfast buffet was from 6:30-10!! And had much variety for westerners and locals and very very delicious! Location was incredibly convenient, over our 3 nights we only needed a taxi once, there was a beautiful park near by, incredible restaurants near by that are open late and you can get an amazing meal for less than $7! Highly recommend Holiday Inn hotel! And look out for Ryan, he is a legend!
I arrived late at night from a delayed flight; the front desk manager went out of his way to help me find food delivery. The place is - clean - friendly - efficient - has all amenities to accommodate a busy traveller I strongly recommend staying here, for a third of the price of the nearby Sheraton or Shangri-La.
Drove here from Beijing and had free parking. She hotel was very nice, the room was clean and spacious, with complimentary water and even an air humidifier. It is definitely a great hotel in Hohhot. The breakfast buffet was not bad at all, but the dinner buffet was really bad. I would recommend to just go out and eat outside for dinner, at least. I tried asking the staff if they could help me book a night in a yurt in the grassland and they just said that they didn't know how to do that. I asked about which grassland would be better to visit and they had no idea. So don't rely on staff for tourism questions. But the hotel is really convenient and great for what we paid.
We stayed two nights at the Holiday Inn. Our 11:15 arrival didn't cause reception any problems. Reception were very helpful to us during our two night stay. Room was enormous. Excellent bathroom. Everything very clean. Breakfasts were fantastic - probably the best we had whilst in China. Good location. Would return.
This Holiday Inn is not bristling with bars, restuarants and spas but it offers great value at about $50 a night. The buffet including drinks (beer and wine) at 100 RMB was very good. Service was also really good and the free limo to the airport a bonus.
Thanks to the hotel for allowing us early check-in as we arrive from overnight train rides from Beijing. The best thing after a long long train ride, to find the rooms clean, sizey and real comfortable bed. Strategically located, within walking distance to a mall with lots of choice for eateries and karaoke. Though not all will like the taste of the Mongolian food, but it's edible.
