Perfect location, close to a lot of restaurants, small shops , Older hotel , but kept clean and rooms are quiet, hotel staff speaks perfect English, Breakfast was good , Grand lounge on the 20th floor looks over the river, fantastic night views
I should have loved this hotel. A grand French colonial building that would not look out of place in Paris. Beautiful period furnishings decorating large rooms and perhaps the best location of any of the major hotels in HCMC. However, be forewarned. If you have a room in the historic wing of the hotel, expect really loud street noise at all hours of the night. Also, unlike every other hotel and resort that we visited in SE Asia during our almost 3 week vacation, the service from the hotel employees was only fair at best. Perhaps it is the fact that this is a government owned hotel has something to do with it. Positives: 1) Location in District 1 on Dong Khoi Street is terrific. 2) Beautiful architecture and furnishings. 3) Large rooms with large bathrooms. 4) Huge breakfast buffet with extensive Asian and Western choices. Negatives: 1) Really loud street noise permeated our room at night in the Historic Wing. 2) Indifferent employees. 3) Weak Wifi in our section of the hotel.
This is a no smoking hotel however when the front desk found out that I smoke offered to put me in room 619 which has a open garden for me to have my puff. Pleasantly comfortable room however it was a twin bed and not a king bed due to the limited availability of the rooms on 6 floor. Good check in experience however unfortunately I was hardly in the room to enjoy it.
I love this hotel. First, the location could not be better. It is located on a historic street and close to many restaurants, sights and shops. Being a lover of history, I adore that this is also one of the oldest hotels in Ho Chi Minh City, yet, it has all the contemporary amenities. Built during the French colonial period, the hotel itself is beautiful, very aesthetic. Our room was spacious and comfortable and both Wi-Fi and air-conditioning worked well. The breakfast was notably good, among the best we have had in southeast Asia. There were endless tables of both eastern and western cuisine and the food was delicious. The staff was stellar, very friendly and helpful, outstanding overall. And on top of all this, the price is very reasonable. I am genuinely glad I chose this wonderful hotel. I highly recommend Grand Hotel Saigon.
Good service. Nicely decorated room and lovely pool view. A bit small thou. One minus thing: the room wasn't soundproof. I can clearly hear a very loud noise of something dropping in early morning. It was so loud that my heart was beating like crazy.
This French-built hotel is comfortable, with large, comfortable rooms. Efforts to restore hotel to make it a period piece largely succeed. It was especially nice to stay in a place where the chair height and room proportions were in keeping with non-Vietnamese. Not everything worked, however. WiFi on sixth floor was really bad. To the staff's credit, they sent someone immediately and tried to set up a wireless router in the room, but it didn't work out. We relied on our phones for Internet. Electrical outlets were a little tricky to deal with even with adapters. Suspect they're a little old (renovation was back in 1995, I think.) Staff is a little formal/stuffy but spoke the best English of any hotel we visited in Vietnam. Breakfast is extraordinary; huge selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, omlette bar, European-style and Japanese options, all in a gorgeous room on the second floor. Very well located, too.
We recently stayed here on our last night in vietnam. The rooms were comfortable but for the price we expected a little more. The pool closes at 9pm which in summer is not helpful as most people like to walk around and get dinner etc in the evening and then come back to hotel which is perfect time to swim but the pool is closed by then. its good walking distance from most things and a good location to base yourself.
The first impression you feel is its classic design. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Strong wifi connection and beautiful breakfast. Just one step out, you'll find a lot of restaurants and coffee shops. L'usine just few mins walk away, a beautiful lunch place. Thanks Grand! would recommend friends!
Excellent service from very polite and professional staff, very spacious comfortable room with all amenities, lovely rooftop restaurant and bar, with reasonable to good music depending on who was playing. Breakfast was the largest buffet I have ever seen, we could have spent the whole morning eating!
A classic style hotel in HCMC, in a good neighborhood, close to almost everything. The staff is helpful, There are a number of restaurants, cafes around although they are expensive by Vietnamese standards. (This is a neighborhood where foreigners live mostly, hence prices are for them) Breakfast in this hotel is surprisingly good. I would not trust the taxi services in front of the hotel, they are not punctual and/or unaccountable. You may just step onto Dong Khoi Street and find a green taxi. Nice and comfy stay.
