This is an older style hotel but our room was clean, comfortable and relatively modern. I liked the old-school charm of breezeways, a ceiling fan, a balcony and a lobby with comfortable furniture and reading material. We had no problems with parking or security. There's a beach next door and several restaurants and a convenience store within a few minutes walk. I would definitely stay here again.

The staff were so nice, with so much aloha! We have never met nicer staff. But the property is definitely older, and apparently scheduled to be torn down, something to do with the land lease not being renewed & plans for a marina in this location. Our room on 1st floor was spotlessly clean, with many nice little touches by caring staff, pretty folded towels, and our room included a small fridge with a freezer. The room is older — painted cement blocks — think college dorm room. The sliding glass door on first floor to our lanai did not lock or even latch. And — there was no AC. There was a ceiling fan, & a nice big room fan. But no window except the sliding glass door, which we kept shut all night, & put things in front of, for security, with many homeless in the nearby park. It was hot & humid & miserable all night. I think if we could have had an open window, it might have helped. If you know what you are getting — painted cement block walls like a college dorm room, & no AC, only fans, & no way to leave a window open on first floor, & no elevator & no ramp even to wheel up luggage — but absolutely wonderful staff & spotlessly clean — including a tiny kitchenette — you can make a better decision. Perhaps 2nd floor rooms would be better. It wasn’t for us. But Aloha, to the wonderful staff …

It’s in a good location. Lily the receptionist is nice and accommodating. The room is clean but needs some renovation. The beds are just right. There is no elevator for the 3 story building. The shower head is obviously broken for a while.

Although there is no elevator (which could be a problem if you are on third floor), no air conditioning, which isn't much of a problem in the winter as there are ceiling fans, I found that lower room rates compared to most hotels in the city and having a full kitchen in the room and free parking kakes this hotel a great deal.

The room was spotless, the staff was kind and courteous. While it may not be the premiere hotel in the area, we slept very well, felt safe, and everything was extremely clean and well taken care of, For a short stay in Hilo, I recommend the Bay Reed.

The room was more than expexcted. Airy a big ceiling fan and 2 additional if needed!!. I wish we could have stayed longer then 1 night. The beds were cozy and the amenities that were available, wow a small kitchen!!!. Bright, clean tidy and the staff were exceptional, friendly and helpful especially Fred🌝. Big mahalo for your hospitality. We'll be back and stay longer.
