I wish I could say more about the property, but my stay was extremely short. I would use again.
Good value for the money. Facility is older and very plain, but clean and safe and right on the ocean. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Staff's attitude toward customer need an overhaul
They have in place a discriminatory vaccine mandate that we were not informed about until after booking. We had already been tested for COVID prior to visiting the island, but the hotel would not accept the test results because we were tested more than 72 hours before check-in, even though it was within 72 hours of our flight. To their credit, they did let us cancel at no charge, but we will not be supporting businesses who cave to this hysteria by implementing arbitrary, invasive, and discriminatory requirements on customers. We were happy to take our money elsewhere.
Safe
The hotel was very old and they dont have an elevetor event they have someone helping you if you ask for. The windows are not very good closing so you ear everything outside. The pool is very small and even worse it was not open when we stayed there. The only thing we appreciate it was that they are close to the sea and to the airport. But I really don't recommand this hotel except if it is for 1 night before flying...
The view is spectacular. We knew there was no elevator, but were extremely disappointed to learn there was no AC.
I've stayed at Hilo Reeds bay in the past. I am satisfied for what I need. Looks like they have updated some of the rooms. However they need to do something with the WIFI and and available cable channels. WIFI is not reliable
The location is great and everything we hoped for. The walk of fame of Hawaii was a gorgeous touch to the beautiful bay. Just know there’s displaced persons hanging out in their cars on the street outside the hotel. Not too many. We never felt unsafe. There’s were female joggers and people walking their dogs etc… but yes there was some rough characters. We were trying to take a picture at the Amelia Earheart tree in front of the hotel and a man was
The building was a little run down, But overall it wasn’t bad
I really appreciated the safety
Run down property, no air conditioning / not working, poor quality facilities, definitely not worth the price paid (overall about $145/night)
Employees was amazing just the room over all need to be in proved for a two hundred dollar deposit should be a lot more up dated for that kind deposed.
Kitchen and the beach front of the hotel were the best of staying this hotel.
Room was dated but clean. All seemed in order until i took a cup down from the cabinet to rinse out and when I looked down there were several bugs running around in the sink. Must've been in the cup. Really grossed me out. We checked out at 630AM A lot of your riffraff hanging about the lobby. No one at the desk that early.
The location of this hotel is wonderful. I highly recommend the area if you are visiting Hilo. Parks, beaches, and golf course nearby. The staff do an excellent job of keeping the premises and rooms clean even though the building is older and in need of an update. We originally booked a non ocean view room but upgraded upon check in and we were glad that we did. Definitely worth the extra money. Not sure I would be so happy with the place had we not upgraded. The sound of the waves and the ocean breezes made sleeping much easier!
The Ladies at the office are very polite. And answered all my questions.
No elevator. I am crippled and I use a walker. Given a room on second floor! Total 3 flights of stairs to navigate!

"You are free to make choices about vaccination, but all our choices have consequences. It simply means you won't be able to go places or do things that will require you to show you've been vaccinated. If you think that's freedom, have at it."
