Let me start by saying how wonderful the staff is - friendly, helpful and welcoming. The setting is beautiful. The lodge itself is unrealized, too expensive, and has an air of deferred maintenance about it. There are random items scattered about, a pile of tiles here, items that need fixing there. Our room was dark and oppressive, decorated in Asian glamour with a shiny bedspread heavy enough to suffocate a small child. The promised view of the waterfall was more a glimpse available only while standing. The communal areas do have lovely views of the waterfall and the setting is a special treat, however the furniture in the communal living room is a heavy "stylish" natural wood that is neither inviting nor comfortable. For the price I expected a lot more luxury, at the very least some robes. The grounds have a lot of potential, but the waterfall was difficult to get down to, with trails that were washed out and not maintained. Once down at the water, there is no easy way to get in. We did swim and it was refreshing, but getting out over boulders wasn't fun. It appears there used to be some kind of ramp, which was washed out. There isn't anywhere to comfortable sit and enjoy the waterfall. There is a terrace a little downstream which seems not to have been used for years. The lodge seems to be owned by someone with a lot of "good" ideas which are either unrealized or impractical. The latest addition of the Icelandic ponies offered for riding excursions seems the best example of folly. During our short stay, we saw no one abseiling down the waterfall or taking them up on any of the other activities. And not because they didn't know about them. Every morning I received an extremely annoying extensive 20 part text about all they had to offer. I didn't think was effective marketing. My suggestion is for the owner to concentrate on providing comfortable and attractive places for the guests to simply enjoy the surroundings.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The accommodations were very nice, the staff was great, and being able to swim in the waterfall was awesome. Jasmine went out of her way to provide and excellent stay. Also the Farm to Table dinner was an added bonus. And breakfast was provided; which was excellent. They also had a little happy hour with wine. It was very quiet and peaceful there.
Our family had an all-to-brief say here. Unfortunately, because of the volume of rain, it was not safe to to swim at the waterfall, but it was still beautiful to walk to. The grounds were just beautiful and they provided umbrellas, walking sticks, bicycles, water socks, etc. Our rooms were spacious and the bed was VERY comfortable—I’m sensitive to that because I have arthritis in my spine. Breakfast included a variety of items. I would definitely return to this lovely inn!
Just wrapping up 4 days in the Pagoda House for Spring Break and I honestly can’t imagine us staying anywhere else in Hilo. Don’t come here expecting the Ritz. The location and experience is what is priceless and the falls were the highlight of our 9 days on the Island. It lights up purple at night which was magical! I will agree with some of the previous comments regarding breakfast. I dont eat carbs so some kind of eggs, even just hard boiled would be good. And they really need to get some chairs for outside of the house. If we had some beach chairs with us that would have sufficed but at least you can see and hear the falls from downstairs and upstairs. The Chef’s dinner was amazing and the best meal we had on our trip. We loved the Inn and will definitely be back!
Absolutely gorgeous setting. Beautiful grounds to explore. We stayed in the Pagoda House with a bed that overlooked the beautiful waterfall. So much to do at the inn, the entire staff was so friendly and kind. The inn’s cat Alice came along with us as a tour guide of the hike to the waterfall and she did an excellent job. On our last night we enjoyed a truly mouth-watering 5 course farm-to-table meal with their private chef - by far the best meal of our trip. Would highly highly recommend!!
Located just outside of Hilo on the Big Island. Situated on farm/plantation. Very "isolated" in the rain forest setting. Comfortable rooms but the real reason to stay there are the falls and the trails.
This hotel is in an beautiful and quiet location, you can have a nice hike next to the river and the waterfalls. The sky at night was beautiful, since there is not much light around, you can see a lot of stars. The staff are friendly and the breakfast is really nice. I highly recommend this place.
the hotel is located in a private property outside of Hilo, it takes about 15 min to get there. Getting there was beautiful , but the place itself cannot be described in words the location - near the waterfall and the jungle is fabulous , the small houses are extremely well designed and well equiped the porch where breakfast is served sits on the falls - there is nothing of the kind
I would like to start with good things: 1) Great location. Beautiful waterfall. Very isolated. 2) Very friendly staff. 3) Fresh fruit. And now I have to talk about things can be improved: 1) Please update your WiFi. I read some comments about how slow it is. The owner replied as long as you don't download big file. However, the truth is I can't even browse website, not to mention FaceTime with my family. 2) Please make sure everyone know that this is NOT a hotel. In other words, you don't have your own space beside a tiny tiny tiny restroom and a tiny tiny bedroom. The shower area is so small that I can't even turn around. And also please please put a CURTAIN for the restroom!! 3) Please hire some professional housekeeper to clean the room. The shower curtain smells like a pee pee. The bedding smells like a cheap detergent. The curtain smells like dirt. It feels like a lazy host's Airbnb place.
The place is situated in a private prioperty, just next to a huge Waterfall which can be seen or at least heard from all the rooms. The place looks just kõige out of the movie. The staff is very welcoming and helpful and if you have a chance to take the dinner with the chef, it's very much worth it. Highly recommended!
