Stayed here with my partner to visit Harry Potter, room was spacious if basic. The bed was a decent size as even for a 6''2 man! Only thing I could say was we weren't told what time check out was and prior to the stay didn't receive anything saying what time we could check in. In the end we just turned up and hoped for the best. We got there at 1pm and check in turned out to be 2pm but the room was ready so that was good. Hotel itself is a bit old looking but our room was fine and just what we needed.
Booked here to stay night before to go to the Harry Potter studio tour. Arrived late so literally just used the room to sleep. Extremely spacious bed and comfy. Room clean and tidy. Friendly staff. Right next door to McDonalds which came in handy as we arrived after the hotel restaurant had closed.
We normally stay at this hotel on our fairly frequent trips to Watford to visit our grandchildren, and especially at Christmas. This was a 4 night stay, arrriving on 23 Dec. Checked into our room and dropped off our luggage, not returning until later that night from our daughter's house. No hot water available and moved to another room. Next morning, water run for some time (in sink, bath and shower) before eventually running hot. Another full day out of hotel on Christmas Eve to find on return that breakfast/dining area was transformed for Christmas Day functions. Early breakfast on Christmas day - to see grandchildren opening their presents - in a function room in another part of the hotel. Although very early, the "hot" food was at best lukewarm. For the remaining 2 days, the same running water scenario was repeated in our room. Very disappointing, and in my subsequent comments to Mercure, I suggested that our next trip to Watford will be to a Premier Inn.
Great check in and check out, staff were friendly and attentive. There were plenty of parking places available. The room was nicely decorated and very functional with only minor aspects needing revamping like the carpet and some chipped paint.
Stay at this hotel for wedding nearby. The check in and out was efficient. The room / bed comfortable and clean, no problem with noise. The decor is a bit tired and need updating as it was more noticeable in the bathroom.
Arrived when dark and place looked like a 1970's school building. Looked a little run down and car park not well lit, felt intimidating with people hanging around at rear due to five a side pitch. Staff nice and polite. Room okay but felt dark and dingy, mould on bathroom ceiling and curtain rail. Bar shut at 1100 bang on, no atmosphere. Hallway smelt musty as well and smell of cannabis near back of building. All in all did the job, slept well but didn't enjoy stay.
As a family party of 8 we had 3 rooms in total. Traveling from Yorkshire we arrived earlier then check in but this was not a problem the staff checked our rooms were available and let us check straight in. We were in a family room which was clean, Basic tea coffee and kettle were available as well as toiletries plus they were replenished on our 2nd day. Staff were all very helpful and friendly some staff went above and beyond especially with the snow on Sunday morning. Breakfast was included in our package. Buffet style options of full English toast pastries cereals and fruit so plenty of choice. We found this hotel a good base for shopping in Watford sight seeing in London and close to harry potter.
On a recent business trip to Watford, I decided to use the Mercure hotel as my chosen hotel for this trip, on arrival the hotel seemed dated and staff check in service wasn't any where near as helpful or friendly as i have become used to from other hotel brands. But thought things would be get better, on first inspection of my room thought reasonable but again very dated, not in the best state of repair either the decor was in great need of some attention, but even worse the room was so noisy, you could hear other guests voices and TV's from above and along corridor, so stayed in room least as possible, used the gym which was OK, but the pool was more of a puddle so avoided that despite coming prepared for a swim. As I had booked an evening meal I ventured to the restaurant, to sum up food was very poor and service was equally catastrophic, didn't finish my meal as it was horrid and extremely overpriced. Needless to say I didn't use the restaurant for breakfast or my evening meal the following night. When I attempted to use the kettle in room found this with damaged electrical lead and should have been replaced. Couldn't wait to check out and will never return to another hotel from this chain.
Everything went to plan and the hotel was good but couldn’t give it more ratings as it was ready for a little TLC in parts and staff at times especially at the bar went missing and led to people waiting quite a while for a drink, luckily this didn’t happen to us we just observed it
This is insane I have phoned 3 times to complain only to be told that they will be having a disco until 2 in the morning it’s a weeknight! I am staying here as I have work tomorrow! What if I had young children with me! This is completely wrong when people stay here for business and have to work the next day absolutely no sound proofing in the room- I have done a video and I can hear every word of the songs! I may as well join in and tell the people I have to business tomorrow why I have 0 energy!!! Do not stay here unless you want an 18-30 style evening without the sun!!! The room is also very run down but I would overlook that if I could just get some sleep! If I had been warned they were having all night discos mid week i would NOT have stayed here!!
