This is very basic hotel and I did not expect golden facilities for the price we paid, however I got used to accor standard and was very disappointed with Mercure Watford. I could not bare the noise from the sink and the toilet. Someone did very poop pluming job. This hotel is in need of proper refurbishment.
This is the hotel that me and two members of my family stayed at for a coach trip over this weekend I still have one day and night to go from writing this. Where do I start the rooms are dirty, one of my relatives went to make a cup a tea and there was a lipstick stain on the cup in our room. No one has had a hot drink or touched them until that point. After the first night I came back from some time in the town to find my bed.had not been properly made (how hard is it to make a bed) the food is set up buffet style as we are on a coach and the selection is apauling, tonight was the second night for food out of three main meal options I had a spoonful of peas and carrots (mixed) (carrots were undercooked and I don't mean nicley undercooked i mean undercooked) and a boiled egg. Then for dessert I have three small thin tinny slices.of fruit (watermelon, honeydu melon and pineapple) pineapple was under ripe but the other melons where nice then the night before.i have fruit salad so as you can guess I'm sick of fruit. Back to the beds. They are uncomfortable and lumpy just not comfy to sleep in. Rooms are like sauna which I imagine would be nice if it was winter but we are in summer so windows are constantly open. Breakfast is okay I've had a thousand times better I can't say I've ever had worse but you can eat it and there is selction (not much but some). Shower is too low the wall and I'm not very tall (I'd feel sorry for anyone who is above average height). Some of the waiting staff aren't very polite. I could go on but I think I'll stop here. Will never come here again and will never use the coach company that we used again.
We stayed here for one night for a social function. The hotel is beside the A41 just outside Watford and has lots of parking, the building has that 1970s school look. Booking in took ages as receptionist not that fast. Room was quite large with lots of storage and bathroom was okay. The public areas weren't that clean and quite tired with torn carpets and bits of tape on floor. Drinks were very expensive and the meal was unpalatable especially the Eton Mess. Breakfast was very good, lots of space in the restaurant and lots of food choices.
The company I work here, put me up in this Hotel for 2 nights. The location isn't great being on a by-pass, so going for a stroll in the evening was out of the question.. Room was ok, if a little depressing, but the bed was massive and I slept very well. I've read a number of reviews and lots complained about not having a door to the bathroom, my room had a door, thank the Lord. Simple tea and coffee but no digestive biscuit. The walls must be paper thin, my next doors phone was ringing earlier and I thought it was mine! My evening meal last night was ok, but I really enjoyed my Chicken Ceaser Salad tonight, a bit too much sauce mind, but the lettuce was fresh and crisp, the chicken tender and anchovies very tasty. With a side portion of sweet potato fries, I feel very full and very satisfied. The hotel is tired, all the communal areas need refreshing and some maintenance is required to the building, but let's face it, this probably hasn't cost too much and for sure, the staff are trying to improve the place. There were lots of people in the restaurant last night and tonight, so they must be doing something right.
We booked for me and my partner and son for 3 nights. After a few issues with our booking and room allocation. On 3rd attempt we got our room. Nice and spacious family room with step in shower as a wheelchair user with limited mobility this was a must. The pool was lovely and warm and our son loved every minute. Hotel is really close to harry potter tour which we did on our 2nd day. The whole team were amazing and the restaurant team under the guidance if Patrick were fantastic. The service was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. After reading reviews on here were not expecting much but were very pleasantly surprised. Food was amazing and breakfast had a great choice and even if it was available they would prepare anything on request. Will definitely be returning to this hotel if we go back to Watford. Thanks for making our stay better.
Not one to moan but this hotel is horrible, arrived at 13:57 ready for check in at 2pm met by a receptionist that didn’t seem to know what she was doing, given the furthest room possible from the lobby area/pool. Room is very basic and very outdated, no door on toilet/shower area so if you are sharing with someone you aren’t comfortable being naked around don’t go. Toilet is very tight to get into and when sat on toilet the privacy part of the glass doesn’t go low enough to cover you doing your business, wall mirror in completely wrong place can see everything from bathroom when laying on bed. Mould spots and cobwebs on roof and cupboard door hanging on for dear life. Very weird noise going on all night from the corridor area. Breakfast was the only good point, not a big selection but enough to fill you. Waitresses left a lot to be desired though, not even a smile from them. Was going to stay and use pool facilities up until check out time but decided to check out early and get away from the place. Use your money wisely and pick somewhere much better. Hilton just up road and not that much price difference.
It's not the most prepossessing hotel from the outside, although I was well-received at reception. In fact, Reception was by far the best part of it. The room was a good size, but didn't seem to have been refurbished since the late 1980s. The restaurant offer was very confusing. I'd booked DBB but it didn't seem possible to construct a three-course meal from the menu. After a lot of questioning, it then transpired you could have anything from the menu. Apart from cheese to finish, which I quite fancied. I had a pint of Bass ale from the bar before I went in. Dreadful - sour taste and couldn't finish it. Breakfast was okay the following morning. For the money I paid, the price was reasonably fair for what I got.
Tired, no privacy doors on the toilet or shower and the wall mirror placing means anyone sitting on the bed can see you in all your glory. No bed side tables which means book, glass, phone all on the floor. We were just in time for breakfast and told to hurry, hurry, hurry as they needed to clear up. Like an earlier reviewer, will not be returning for the Only Fools and Horses tribute night. Chips not bad. One member of the staff seemed jolly. Not a great advocate for the brand but the handy location means they don’t have to try too hard. There’s a Hilton along the road a bit.
Where to start ! I stay in hotels a lot with my work and I can't recall a worst hotel than this. Was expecting would be good as stayed at Bristol Mercure previous night which was great but got a shock in Watford! Check in : waited 20 mins in queue at 7pm to check in but the staff were pleasant although insisted I pay for room that had been prepaid and took a while to sort. Then we embarked on the 8 min walk to the room ! Know that doesn't seem that long but for a walk from reception to a room it seems endless in this elongated hotel . ROOM : hasn't seen a decorator since 1980, it has had a replacement loo though as the new one is smaller and the old decor exposed. Toilet is so small you have to remove bin to close door ! And that is only door and is only partly concealed so if your after privacy and staying with someone else forget it! TV didn't work and rang reception 3 times with no reply until eventually gave up and settled for a book. Shower has a supposed Japanese shower which didn't work. Anything placed on bedside shelf just rolled off ! Lamps didn't work room was dirty as was bathroom the list goes on and on. The room pictures on website bare no relation to what we got I am sure there are some nice rooms but ours was certainly not one of them! The reception had a advert for an only fools and horses night and it certainly is appropriate if your after a 80's Del Boy experience it's perfect if you want a decent room with cleanliness and working equipment than look elsewhere. I usually do not write such reviews but this hotel really was absolutely awful avoid like the plague wish I had gone for Premier inn least you know there is a minimum standard that is fine
Stayed for just one night while doing a couple of days of interview, so needed a quiet relaxing peaceful hotel and this one did not disappoint. Staff, room, restaurant and pool all good and I was able to get up for second day feeling refreshed and relaxed which was important for me. Good location for the area, easy to find, very convenient.
