It is an amazingly beautiful villa, well maintained, tranquil and spacious, offering amazing view of the mountain. Mr Stelios and Mrs Stela, who are owners of the villa, are extremely welcoming and respectful. We had email correspondence before our arrival, and the responses are always prompt and helpful. The villa is located in a mountain village about 25 mins driving distance from Heraklion city center and from the airport. You do need a car to get around and in our case, we took taxi everywhere. My family went on holiday during high season in July, as we wanted to avoid the touristic crowd to have quality family time yet have good access to city center, the location was perfect for us and we were happy about the choice. In the morning the villa would offer great breakfast with organic home made food prepared by the hostess and during the evening, Mr Stelios would drive us to nice restaurants in the village and pick us up after the dinner. We stayed in the villa for 5 nights, and even went to Santorini for 2 days. We had such a wonderful and pleasant stay at the Villa. Many thanks to Mr. Stelios and Mrs. Stella make our stay unforgettable. We absolutely loved the place and would love to go back. See you soon! xxxx
This is a beautiful villa hospting 4 luxury suits. We stayed at the magnificent Rafcos balcony suite. It is well maintained, clean and spacious offering amazing view of Crete. Stelios and Stela, the owners went out of their way to host us. Great breakfast with fresh . organic food. the only reason I gave this beautiful villa only " very good" was becuase of its location. The villa is quite isolated, it is about 25 minutes from Heraklion or at least 30 minutes from the nearest beach. It is located on a mountain outside the nice village. You need a car to get anywhere . For us this was an issue but if you want to relax by the pool and enjoy the magnificent view than this is simply a great place.
My husband has already left our review right after our trip. But I need to add this: please, go. Do not hesitate. If you're looking for a place to stay in Heraklion, search no more. Mr. Stelios and Mrs. Stella will make your stay unforgettable. And a piece of your heart will stay there, when it's time to leave.
We spent two nights and a full day at Vergis Epavlis in Nov 2016 and had a wonderful and pleasant stay. It was off season when we made our visit but Stelios was kind enough to let us stay since we (plus another couple) were the last customers before he closed for the season. The villa is on top of a mountain so the neighboring view is breathtaking! We arrived late in the evening and since the drive up the mountain had a lot of hairpin curves, we missed the villa sign board and missed the turn. For first timers, this may be a drawback as its easy to miss the sign if arriving late at night. We stopped at the village restaurant and asked for directions to get to the villa and the guy was kind enough to drive and lead the way for us to get to the villa. Stella and Stelios are remarkably extraordinary people who took very good care of us and made our stay truly memorable. We were first time visitors to Heraklion and knew very little about the place and Stella was very kind enough to explain to us what to see in a short time frame. We even took a day trip to Chania and Rethymno and absolutely enjoyed the drive. The suite we stayed was on the ground floor and was fabulously decorated and had a royal and luxury interior look, with a kitchen, dinning room and family room combined. They have a restaurant at the back of the villa and Stella cooked breakfast for us and tried to make the menu different each day. She taught me how the greeks eat yogurt by adding honey to it and it was delicious when you top it with nuts or cereals or fruits, I tried all and loved it! We absolutely had a great time and would love to go back. Hopefully we will make a visit with our whole family. Thank you Stella and Stelios for making our stay memorable and hope to see you again.
We stayed for one night in the Angels Suite in September 2016 and were so incredibly impressed by the hospitality and quality at Vergis Epavlis. We arrived quite late into the little village because our ferry from Santorini was over an hour late. Even though I called Stelios twice on his mobile (because I was so worried that our GPS was wrong) he was wonderful and patient and met us in the little square in the village at 9pm and guided us to the property. He offered us to either have dinner at Stella's fish night in the dining room at Vergis Epavlis or we could have gone to the little taverna in the village. I'm so glad that we choose to have the fish dinner done by Stella because it was absolutely excellent - and so wonderful that we were able to do this when we arrived so late at night. The hospitality here is first class and our beautiful suite was so roomy, luxurious and comfortable. We only stayed one night on our Sept 2016 trip because we were spending most of our time in Chania. We are already planning our trip for Sept 2017 and will definitely be spending a longer stay at Vergis Epavlis this time. This place was so memorable it was top of our list to re-visit.
We just spent 5 nights at Vergis Epavlis as well as 2 other destinations in Crete. The Vergis's was by far the best hotel we've stayed at in 20 years of mostly 5 star lodging in Caribbean, Portugal and Greece. The owners Stellios and Stella were not only welcoming and friendly but they actually made us feel like we were part of their family! They went far beyond our expectations by inviting us out with them due to our anniversary. This is exceptionally rare service. The food, grounds, facilties and views were well worth the price. If only we had known how warm the welcome had been... I would have requested Stellios to pick us up at the airport and book our car at his hotel! By the way.... there was not a single refugee on the entire island and we travelled extensively throughout! We would heartily recommend this place to anyone. ...it was simply incredible... can't say enough!!
We booked direct for 4 days to start our holiday in the mountains and ended up staying another 6 days for the remainder of our holiday. Getting to north and south is easy ... popping into Heraklion is 20-25 mins. The location of Vergis Epavlis is exceptionally beautiful. I stayed with my wife and 3 kids (who are veggies) and Stella made some great food options. Stelios and Stella are amazing hosts. One of the most relaxing holidays I have ever had,
Not only is this hotel beautiful, but it may be the best place to eat in Crete, and Stella and Stelios, the owners of this hotel, will treat you like family. We spent the first two nights of our honeymoon here and after missing our flight and arriving late, we were exhausted when we arrived. Stella had breakfast waiting for us - which my husband still says is "the best breakfast we ever had!" Then they arranged a beautiful, private and romantic 6 course seafood dinner for us - everything was fresh, delicious and cooked to perfection! This is a small, honest, family run business -- the views here are beautiful, everything is fairly priced, but above all, the care and service that Stella and Stelios put into this hotel makes it a cut above the best. We were constantly being fed delicious fresh, healthy organic food and felt so welcome in this perfect oasis. It was heaven!! Whenever we come back to Crete we will stay here. Nothing else compares!!! Thank you for making our honeymoon so memorable!
We booked direct with a phone call and an email. It was all very last minute and we put our faith in owner Stelios who promised to organise a hire car at the airport for us and to find us alternative accommodation for the one night during our week stay that he couldn't accommodate us. It all sounded too good to be true but for once it wasn't. Stelios and his lovely wife Stella lived up to their promises and so much more besides. A man with car keys was waiting at the airport for us and we set off into the mountains to discover the beautiful, peaceful haven that is the Vergis Epavlis. Our suite was huge as was the warm welcome that awaited us and indeed continued throughout the whole week. This is great central location from which to visit all corners of the island. It has to be said that the Greek service and generosity blew us away, none more so than when we were each given a bunch of grapes as we filled up at the local petrol station! Food in general was very reasonably priced and good quality and a special mention here for both the Taverna up the hill from the Vergis Epavlis where we enjoyed plentiful high quality evening meals and also to Stella and co who treated us to a variety of home cooked breakfast dishes and a delicious evening dinner in the company of our fellow guests. All in all, a terrific holiday, this is a gem of a place run by two absolute diamonds!
We spend our honeymoon on this lovely location. The view is fantastic and the suites are so beautiful and clean. The food was excellent and Stella and Stelios (owners of the place) did everything to help us out. Top service! Have them cook a fish for you for a romantic dinner if you want to try something extraordinary. We rented a car since Heraklion is about 14 km away(30 mins to the center) and the nearest beach app. a 35 mins drive. The local restaurant in the nearby village has excellent local Greek food and is very cheap and high quality. We had 3 dinners there. Regards Marie & Jonas
