This place is amazing! Stella and Stelios are what you might call the perfect hosts. If you read all of the other reviews you will find that these people only want you to enjoy your time with them. The knowledge they have about the island, the places to visit etc is shared with their obvious passion for helping you enjoy what the Island has to offer, Stella generally takes time on your first morning to explain what the Island has to offer, her knowledge is second to none and she makes her suggestions based on what you want from your holiday. The hotel suites are very comfortable and have all you need to feel at home. The village is remote and a short drive from Heraklion but it is in the perfect position for exploring what this lovely Island has to offer. Whether you want to enjoy the remoteness of the Hotel or to use it as a base for daily jaunts to the various resorts we guarantee you will have a great time. Many people assume that the Island is blighted with unwanted refugees on their way to mainland Europe, this is not the case, having visited a variety of resorts We can tell you we did not see one sign of any 'crisis'. The villagers in Agios Myronas were very friendly and took the time to speak and make us feel part of their village. The village has a small selection of shops including a couple of small supermarkets, a bakers , a couple of Tavernas and bars. The village is very quiet and the scenery from anywhere within is spectacular. Take some time to have a good walk around the area, it is safe, scenic and has a great climate. Stelios helped us numerous occasions and for that we truly thank him, his generosity knows no bounds and he went above and beyond his role to make sure we had everything we wanted. If we ever visit the Island again we will be sure to stop here.
We stayed here just for one night last year and wanted to come back and stay again, so we did! This year we stayed four nights in September so that we could visit some of the sites that we missed out on last time we visited. Stelios and Stella treat you like family and Stella's home cooked breakfasts are delicious and cooked with care and love. The Greek Yoghurt is sensational but the cooked surprises that she makes each day are wonderful too. The gleaming pool is a welcome relief to return home to after a hot day out. The pool is a bit cool to get into but once you're in it's great. The location is excellent - it is only 25 minutes from Heraklion by car and an easy drive should you wish to visit. If you do want to visit Heraklion to see what is offers, parking is cheap and very easy at the Port in Heraklion (and only a 5 minute walk from the main action). Heraklion is not a pretty city but it does have some nice restaurants (try Peskesi), cafes (Phyllosophies on Lion's Square for Bougatsa) and the Archeological Museum is world class if you are interested in the history of Greece. If you are not interested in history or going to the city, there are plenty of little villages or day trips to beaches that you can do from the property. We are Greek history enthusiasts so we did day trips to Gortyn, Knossos and Phaistos, which were all easy day trips. We also went to Ayios Nicolas for a day. It is very easy to see lots of things from the location. It is also very tranquil to return to the gorgeous view and peacefulness at the end of the day. We were very saddened to hear that bookings for Greece are down because people outside of Europe are afraid of the refugee crisis. People, you will not see any impact on this on your travels. We have travelled to five Greek Islands over the last two years and have seen no impact of the situation at all. If we would have seen it, we would have expected to see it in Samos which is considerably closer to Turkey (which we visited this year). There is no evidence of any issue. Please do not let this stop you visiting Greece. I feel much safer in Greece than I do in Paris or London. Thank you Stelios and Stella for a great stay again - and thanks Stella for our sandwiches that you sent us off with when we left.
What can be said that hasn't been already said? Everything was perfect, exceptional room, wonderful plentiful food, superb hosts and staff................if you're thinking about booking, don't hesitate just book, you'll have an amazing experience. A huge thank you to Stelios and Stella for making our stay so wonderful.
Stelios and Stella Vergis take hospitality to a new level in this beautiful and spacious Suites Hotel 1300 feet up in the mountains. The views are spectacular and there is a sense of tranquility throughout. A fantastic swimming pool overlooks their olive grove from which they produce their own home grown oil. Breakfasts are a real treat with spectacular home prepared local dishes. Stella treats her guests as family and nothing is too difficult when it comes to the comfort of her visitors. The house is situated about 5 minutes drive from the local village of Agios Mironas with it's few tavernas, patisserie and local shops. A small hamlet with an impressive history. Stelios met us in town when we arrived to make it easier to find the hotel. But there's a walking path through the trees and it's only 500m to the centre of the village. Our room was the Presidential Suite which is an accurate description. It is a total of 115 square metres divided into four areas including two bedrooms and 2 bathrooms a study and a walk in Closet. It is very lavishly furnished and luxurious in every way. A complimentary bottle of wine made from grapes in the next valley and bowl of fruit greeted us on arrival. Everything is locally produced and mostly organic. There is nothing like a bowl of thick Greek yoghurt and honey and fruit to start the day. They even use crushed dried olive seeds industrially produced as a fuel to heat their boiler. Tomatoes, courgette and cucumbers all grow in the garden and combine with locally produced feta cheese to create an exquisite Greek salad. Stella brought out delicious vanilla and chocolate desserts while we were at the pool and she has been incredibly helpful pointing out local places to visit and appreciate the rich history, culture and beauty of Crete. Vergis Epavlis is located about 15 kilometres from Heraklion and easily accessible by car for those who want to visit the world class museum of Minoan and Mycenaean history. The Palace of Knossos, wonder of the ancient world, is a similar distance away. And these is no shortage of beaches 25minutes away by car. We would thoroughly recommend staying here for anyone who wants a relaxing and interesting holiday away from heaving tourist beaches. Our hosts were delightful and we could not have asked for more. The season continues to the middle or end of October. We stayed in Mid September and it was about 85 degrees with sunny blue skies every day. Can't think of a single thing we are not absolutely delighted about. And can't wait to come back again in the future.
Vergis Epavlis surpassed all our expectations. The location is idyllic and only 25 mins from Heraklion. The proprietors Stella and Stelios , welcomed us with heartfelt hospitality and made our stay unforgettable. As vegans we were catered for impeccably by the lovely Stella who was given a bit of a challenge but one that she rose to brilliantly. Freshly cooked breakfast each day with delicious local produce. The facilities enhanced our stay-our suite "The House of Angels" was stunning with amazing views from our private balcony. We loved the pool, again with amazing views and a perfect place to cool off and relax after a day of exploring. We will definitely return to this piece of paradise in a stunning mountain location in a beautiful and friendly village. The grounds contain so many different types of fruit trees also. Figs, Pommegrante, Plums, Lime, Lemon and Pear..all of which we were encouraged to take as much of as we want. My personal favourite was the Fig tree near the back of the swimming pool. All and all, a fantastic holiday in Crete. No hesitation in recommending this place. My first time in Crete but certainly not my last...
This is our 3rd year in Crete and again we stayed here at Vergis Epavlis. We actually feel like it's our home! That's how welcoming Stelios and Stella are. The place is so clean and beautifully decorated. Lovely kitchen inside the villa too so can cook too. Gorgeous pool and Stella serves delicious food throughout the day. Nothing is too much for them.. .... looking forward to next time
This is a beautiful villa located in a village approximately half an hour from the center of Heraklion, Crete. The service and hospitality are exceptional. Mr. Stelios and Mrs. Stella at the villa made us feel welcome and very comfortable. Prior to our arrival, I emailed and asked about taxi information to the villa and Mr. Stelios offered to pick us up at the Heraklion port since it was late in the afternoon. At the villa, the room is clean and spacious with beautiful scenery. The breakfasts are delicious and are freshly prepared every morning. This is the first time we visited Crete Island so Stella took her time to tell us popular destinations on the island. She also arranged all of our transportation to and from the villa. On the day of our departure, we had to leave very early in the morning, Stella made us breakfast ahead of time and delivered to our room. We appreciated it very much. We really enjoyed the stay and had a wonderful time!!
It is an amazingly beautiful villa, well maintained, tranquil and spacious, offering amazing view of the mountain. Mr Stelios and Mrs Stela, who are owners of the villa, are extremely welcoming and respectful. We had email correspondence before our arrival, and the responses are always prompt and helpful. The villa is located in a mountain village about 25 mins driving distance from Heraklion city center and from the airport. You do need a car to get around and in our case, we took taxi everywhere. My family went on holiday during high season in July, as we wanted to avoid the touristic crowd to have quality family time yet have good access to city center, the location was perfect for us and we were happy about the choice. In the morning the villa would offer great breakfast with organic home made food prepared by the hostess and during the evening, Mr Stelios would drive us to nice restaurants in the village and pick us up after the dinner. We stayed in the villa for 5 nights, and even went to Santorini for 2 days. We had such a wonderful and pleasant stay at the Villa. Many thanks to Mr. Stelios and Mrs. Stella make our stay unforgettable. We absolutely loved the place and would love to go back. See you soon! xxxx
This is a beautiful villa hospting 4 luxury suits. We stayed at the magnificent Rafcos balcony suite. It is well maintained, clean and spacious offering amazing view of Crete. Stelios and Stela, the owners went out of their way to host us. Great breakfast with fresh . organic food. the only reason I gave this beautiful villa only " very good" was becuase of its location. The villa is quite isolated, it is about 25 minutes from Heraklion or at least 30 minutes from the nearest beach. It is located on a mountain outside the nice village. You need a car to get anywhere . For us this was an issue but if you want to relax by the pool and enjoy the magnificent view than this is simply a great place.
My husband has already left our review right after our trip. But I need to add this: please, go. Do not hesitate. If you're looking for a place to stay in Heraklion, search no more. Mr. Stelios and Mrs. Stella will make your stay unforgettable. And a piece of your heart will stay there, when it's time to leave.
