Kolea is amazing. Our condo was fantastic and so close to the pool and beach. A-bay has everything you need. Waikoloa village shopping center is within walking distance and has shopping, restaurants and grocery stores all in one place. I would definitely stay there again.
Family birthday trip with 11 people (adults and kids). Grandparents rented a condo in the complex and adult kids with their families rented house 16. Beautiful!!! Great pool, great kitchen, great bedrooms...just great. Full access to the Hilton resort next door (including ability to "room charge" to the house). Neighborhood also has its own beach (very unusual on the Big Island). Complex close to restaurants, grocery stores, shopping. Waikoloa Vacation Rentals concierge super helpful in booking restaurants/activities and rental company very easy to work with. If you are going to the Big Island, I highly recommend this complex and this house!
This resort has all the amenities and is in close walking distance to the shopping center. The Hilton passes for the pool with parking is an added plus. Restaurants are nearby but bring your wallet. If you are good with cooking in this is a great place do do that with full kitchen and BBQ on the spacious Lanai.
We had two small families totaling 5 people stay at Kolea 1E. Other than the decorations being "different", the condo was just gorgeous. We had breakfast on the lanai every morning (where there is plenty of furniture - even a pull out bed) to sit on. The kitchen is very well stocked with anything you need. The only down thing was that the thermostat could only be set to 72 and after showers, the rooms got very hot and it was hard to cool down. The pool and club house is just steps away. We used the outdoor gym as well. It consisted of two treadmills and a stationary bike so get there early. It was very well maintained and supplied towels. The place is QUIET! No tourist here. I wished we could have spent more time here but we are very active and took off on excursions most of the time. The owner left a fresh bowl of fruit and other goodies as a welcome gift. Very nice. Also, you have your own elevator directly to your room and parking is just outside your door. This is a huge bonus! You also have your own washer and dryer - this is great. The beach is about two football fields away and has great sidewalks. The beach is "A"Bay beach with lots of activities and walking paths.
Kolea what a peaceful tranquil experience from the time we arrived to the time we left we were in total meditation mode the property is extraordinary and the setting is so peaceful as far as the furnishings for the condominium there is nothing more to ask for everything you could need is provided the views are outstanding and the pool and Beach Club are nothing more than total relaxation I will carry it with me back in New York City until we return next year
These Condos are amazing!! I have travelled to Hawaii several times to Maui and Oahu but these are my favorite for couples retreats, adventure, golf, and good times. I have actually stayed in these properties 3 times and plan on going again next year. My wife and friends enjoy every minute. I personally would recommend renting a unit on the third floor where you can see the ocean and not blocked by other buildings. The property area has some nice restaurants, shops, as well as grocery store so we like to mix up staying in and cooking as well as going out. This is a special place - would highly recommend!!!
I am not exaggerating when I say Kolea (we stayed 1F) would have to be one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. 1F is a top floor 3 bedroom unit and while on the map it looks like it sits back away from the ocean this isn't actually accurate, you still get a very good ocean view and amazing sunsets but the apartment is still a lot cheaper than the proper sea front. We booked through Waikoloa Vacation Rentals and they were extremely good and easy to deal with. Straight after booking we got confirmation and details for our stay. As we booked probably 8-10 months in advance the payment was not due for a few months and they kept us updated the entire time. Upon arrival check in instructions were extremely clear and the next morning a representative from WVR came to check on us and answer any questions. She also said that anything we ran out of, paper towels, toilet paper, shampoo, bags etc could be replaced if we just called. The apartment was very well stocked. You had everything you needed for a long stay, and like I said, a lot of it was provided by WVR so could be replaced. They provided boogie boards, beach chairs and a beach umbrella. There was also a fair amount of food in the fridge and pantry which saved us buying staples other than eggs and milk. The kitchen is extremely large and there is a lanai with an outdoor grill. Most evenings and mornings we sat out on the lanai. Being a corner unit you got a slight breeze which we were grateful for as it was very hot. The beds were very comfortable! And the lounge area was lovely. Also as we booked through WVR we got access to the Hilton facilities which we used a few times. Normally when you stay somewhere, even if you enjoy it you can think of at least one improvement. But for Kolea I honestly can't. It was that good!!
DISCLAIMER: I am not in any way affiliated with Waikoloa Vacation Rentals, nor received any compensation for this review! OK, with that out of the way, I will say that the Kolea condos and Waikoloa Vacation Rentals are first-rate. My family and I had a great stay and could not be more pleased. WVR sent information shortly after confirming my stay, and also sent a copy of Hawaii Revealed to help plan our vacation. Check-in instructions were clear and easy. Communication was great -- the first morning after arrival, a WVR rep paid a personal visit to ensure that everything was all right and to answer any questions. During our stay, we called for more paper towels, which were delivered very quickly. By booking my stay through WVR, we were provided an amenity card to use the pool and facilities at the adjacent Hilton Waikoloa (about a 10 min walk). We only went once, but it was nice to have. Following my stay, I received a questionnaire to follow up on my visit. The entire transaction with WVR was seamless and trouble-free. I would definitely book through WVR again. The unit was very large and well-appointed (better than my home). It came with everything one would need for a long stay. There were boogie boards, beach chairs and a cooler in one of the closets. WVR also provided a complimentary bag of Kona blend coffee. There is a great grill on the lanai, but we never had the opportunity to grill. The Kolea itself is a relatively newer development and well-situated. From 16J, it is a 5 min. walk to A-Bay, a relatively long beach good for swimming and water activities. Queen's Market and King's Shops are a 10 min walk away. Hapuna Beach (beautiful) is about a 15 min drive. The pool and fitness center (no weights) are modest, but who really needs that with A-Bay and running paths so close by? My only quibble about 16J is that the carpeting could use a good cleaning. There are little signs in the unit which ask that guests not eat in the living area, but clearly there are scofflaws. A very minor issue. Otherwise, I would unhesitatingly stay here during my next visit to the Big Island.
We loved staying at the three bedroom top floor condo. The beds were very comfortable and lived the soft pillows. The washer dryer was a wonderful perk too, The kitchen fit all our needs and the balcony was a great gathering place. We had 12 people fit in three bedrooms. The only downside was how the air conditioning was super cold in the master, but warm in the adjoining bedroom. At night, if warm, bugs swarm the outside. It's a place of paradise otherwise!
Kolea Condo complex is one of the nicest accommodations with beach access on the Big Island. We have stayed at Kolea before on another visit. We truly like 9L over the other units. This is a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom corner unit therefore it has more light than other units. We like the hotel look and feel when it comes to beds. They have white duvet covers on all the beds unlike the other units. We want to make sure our bedding is clean. The 2nd bedroom has two queen beds which are perfect for our kids. The unit has wood blinds throughout. In the 2nd room, they have floor to ceiling and wall to wall black out curtains to block out the sun so that our kids could sleep in. The unit furnishings are covered in indoor/outdoor Sunbrella fabric therefore they wash their cushions on a regular basis. The artwork is modern with a beach feel. This is a great unit since it is close to the beach club and beach! We had a great time with our family.
