This is not a budget hotel is just broken down. I've had much better rooms in Vietnam for less money and in much better condition. I booked on hotels.com came in to a few guys watching a movie on the computer, they had to stop the movie to see my reservation and get me a room. Checked into a musty old room that is really falling down, mold on doors, mirrors missing 1/2 the silver background, the shower drains on the floor yet there is no drain in the floor, furniture is falling apart, night stand lamp not working as well as the 22" TV mounted on the wall. Bath towel is cheap and small. Went back down to go out for dinner and ask directions, at that time there were four employees all on their phones. I would stay at a hostel instead of this room. I've waited till morning to have breakfast before sending in my review on this hotel. I woke last night to my bathroom smelling so bad i got up from a deep sleep at 5:30am to shut the door. This is room 204 not sure about other rooms. So back to breakfast, they had a nice selection of food, noodles, pork, vegetables, toast and coffee. So with that said ...... I'm moving to a new place on a full stomach. 😀
This hotel is a very good budget hotel. Hang Bac street is very close to the lake and local attractions in the old quarter. It is a quieter street over night for sleeping with the party areas close by. The breakfast is good and the staff are happy to organise buses, tours & transfers for your holiday. It is clean and tidy with everything you need including AC and TV ,free WIFI. .
This hotel does not come across as it says. We booked executive suites (2 couples). Not available. Maybe one would be available at four o'clock. Also put the filter of "pool" on when booking and this hotel showed up. No pool. We decided between the four of us to look for another hotel. We did. We could not stay at this musty smelly hotel room. They did compensate five US dollars per night per room. Whatever!! After not staying there we contacted agoda for some refund. We had receipts for other hotels. Agoda called this hotel and management told agoda we had stayed there!! Liars. I would not recommend this hotel. We r not that fussy on rooms but this was definitely below our standard.
We always pick this hotel for every year's Hanoi trip. Room always clean and comfortable even thought the hotel was a bit old. The location is great, just in the middle of the Old Quarter, only a few minute from Ta Hien street - the most crowded street for night activities.
First and foremost, this is a budget hotel. The two rooms I stayed in both have ensuites. It's not fancy, or even new, but it is clean and comfortable and the staff are beyond helpful. I walked in having been turned away at 4 other hotels in the area - I lost my booking at another place due to travel delays and was unable to book in advance. The staff checked me in at 9pm, recommended a pho place (cheap and cheerful) around the corner. Within 1 hr of arriving, I was fed, booked on a tour to Ha Long Bay the next day, showered and in bed. I checked out for my overnight tour and left laundry with the staff, when I returned from my tour, my laundry was done, carefully folded and a nicer room was waiting for me. The hotel offers taxi service to the airport, I recommend taking them up on this. The rate was comparable to the metered fare I took on arrival. Note: my rooms were interior rooms, no windows or windows facing walls. This was not an issue as I generally crawled into bed exhausted from the days excitement. For those booking a tour: the hotel will do this for you and at reasonable rates. One thing to note is that the tours appear to be modular, you may be combined with people from different packages for certain legs of your journey - and it is possible to choose your own adventure if you don't book and join in later on different legs, be aware this is touch and go as it requires timing.
We've been traveling Southeast Asia on a budget and decided to spend our last night on a better hotel. We booked an executive room with balcony through Expedia and paid around 37 USD. What a big mistake. There was no balcony in the room and wifi signal was so poor we had to get out of the room to get some slow connection. The bathroom's roof was mouldy, the bedroom's walls and doors had peeling paint, and the layout was terrible: the TV was on the wall on the right side of the bed. Very far from an executive room. We complained and they told us they got a message from the site where we book the room(I'm not telling which site it was) saying we paid 24 USD for a Standard room without balcony. Everything very strange. I also booked a transfer to the airport at 7 am. They called me 5:30 am saying my taxi was waiting. I said I booked it for 7 am and he said it was too late to cancel it. He insisted twice until my wife took the phone talked firmly: we are taking the taxi at 7!! This hotel shouldn't be an option in Trip Advisor, please travellers be careful, I've been a victim of their scam, avoid this hotel!!
We had paid for our deluxe room online but on arrival we where offered the superior room with balcony but declined as we are on budget. We stayed here 2 nights- wifi works fine no issues. Bathroom and toilet does get smelly just keep the bathroom door shut. Slept in and ran down for breakky at 9:40 but they told us all finished.. Sad. But again great location and would most likely come back. Air Con always a great relief after insane summer heat!
So once again in the space of 5 days and 2 different hotels me and my partner was moved to the sister hotels again! Must be a common thing in Hanoi !! So I can't comment on this hotel only their apparently sister hotel - silver legend hotel! Complete joke don't recommend - the rooms all stink of rubbish you can't get rid of it - your window view will be the inside of the hotel ie the lift ! The beds hard and not clean! Disappointed !
This hotel is well located and staff are friendly. We decided to stay here only because this hotel has balcony rooms available at USD40 per night. So we paid for 2 nights in advance before checking in for their balcony room. However we were told the room is not available when we checked in, only because the then existing guest didn't want to leave. We put up with their alternative suggestion to stay in a much smaller room with no view whatsoever with pee smell all over the room for a night, knowing that the staff promised us to change back to balcony room the next day. Well, that did not happen neither as that existing guest was still there. This is a huge violation of terms we signed up for in the first place, and we did pay for what we expect. It does not matter when they refunded us the balance of cost, it's but a matter of principle that they failed to deliver what they had promised. It's a waste of our time, our energy, our cost to travel all the way there to stay in a smelly tiny room. It is highly unacceptable for any guest for this matter. So, my advice is, do not be tricked by the friendly staff (especially the girl who speaks English and French at concierge) how great the hotel is, because they simply do not understand the importance of delivering their service and they just assumed it'd be just fine to throw a room that they deemed fit. I'm not asking great quality here as I'm fully aware it's not a high end hotel for the price we paid, but it's a very simple rule - you paid for the price of an apple and you don't expect the fruit stall owner to give you a tiny, rotten orange! Worst of all, the fruit stall owner doesn't think there's any problem of that! We have no complaints to the room itself and in fact we had no problems of living there, it's just a matter of principle that left us no choice but to leave the hotel and picked another place to stay. Please beware of the risk of not having the room type you wanted when you book, and ideally avoid staying here if you could.
We go to Hanoi most years & we always stay at the Silver Legend Hotel. This year was no different, we were welcomed like old friends by the staff, caught up with all the news & checked out the photos of the new babies, born since we were last there. The hotel is very well situated, close to the market, lake & food stalls. There is a selection of rooms to suit most people, we normally take a room at the back but as Hang Bac st is pretty quiet at night I don't think there would be too much trouble with noise. We are normally last down for breakfast & there is always plenty of food available so I'm very surprised by the previous review. We have no hesitation in recommending the Silver Legend Hotel to anyone heading to Hanoi
