I stayed here overnight with 10 other people for one night while the rooms were good the bathrooms looked ok but a little run down and needed better cleaning and maintaining. Drunks at the bar very expensive and they had run out of a choice of lager and had something I had never heard of. Not the best but was ok, breakfast was ok not to greasy but had to wait for coffee and toast and had nearly completed my breakfast . Overall not to bad a visit.

Stay there for wedding, the hotel itself is lovely, Great sized swimming pool, sauna and steam room, the gym was also great. Great food and service. Phone signal was pretty dyer as was their wifi which would definitely benefit a better system. Would go again and happily recommend it to anyone for a peaceful time away

Very few words are needed when writing about this hotel. If you have stayed in a Macdonald Hotel before you will be aware the service and standards are pretty great. This hotel doesn't differ and has been brilliant from the quick polite check in to the spa and pool and bar. The rooms are spacious clean tidy and offer all you need. The grounds are lovely with loads of parking. Wifi works throughout. All in all 5* review

We were exceptionally disappointed with our stay. Kept waiting 45 minutes before checking in as a problem with keys and rooms, checked in for swimming only to be told to sit on the steps until swimming lessons had finished, which waiting an hour with a toddler was impossible. No towels in our room, after an hour's wait we were offered one hand towel between the three of us, found myself in reception waiting 25 minutes for a second towel which meant we still had to share?? Dinner was awful, the service, quality of food & value just horrendous. Kept waiting 1 hour 45 minutes for one of the starter's to arrive then a further hour ten minutes for the mains to arrive with the missing starter... took mains back whilst I ate my starter... a further hour and our mains finally arrived, a lovely dried out cold steak.. (picture attached) Complained 3 times and nothing was done food just sat on table?? Certainly not worth £56 Breakfast was just chaos, order for toast and coffee taken but advised there was a 45 minute wait for a table due to staff shortages... after half an hour we were taken to our table where our toast and coffee awaited us stone cold!! We were then advised they were out of Fried eggs, Bacon, sausages, hash browns & mushrooms.. but there were plenty of beans and scrambled egg!!! Not really what I would expect for a full English nor the additional price that is charged for breakfast plus it is advertised that breakfast is served until 09.30 and we arrived at 08.15?? Staff seemed to not really care, or it was too much trouble even checking out was hard work. Telephoned to speak to manager promised to ring me back 3 times, not heard from him, emailed twice still no acknowledgement which leaves me to conclude they don't care, they have been paid and not interested how appalling our experience was. I can't not express just how disgusting our meal was and at £56 a very expensive meal to find ourselves eating a packet of crisps that we had taken with us!! 1 star is the minimum I can award but it really doesn't even deserve that.

All staff welcoming, grounds impressive but quit a lot of building works/ road works close by. Room was large & airy, very clean. The sports bar & spa lacked attention to detail in regards to cleaning. Food debris, dust & fluff on the lower floor level sills. Cobwebs inside the window, with a large spider resting in the web! Lunch Steak burger was meaty & very tasty. The spa also had cleanliness issues. But the treatments & treatment rooms were outstanding. All the therapists were excellent, professional & welcoming. If the hotel could up its game on basic cleaning it would be fabulous.

The Reception staff and welcome were first class. The rooms were very good, spacious, clean and well equipped. The downside of this hotel is the food and drink. Nothing wrong with the quality of the food but the portions at dinner were minute. I had the crumbed hake which was piece measuring about 75x75x25mm with one small potato cut into six tiny pieces, a single shoot of watercress lying on a spoonful of caper sauce. All very well cooked but hardly enough to feed a child. I thought I would fill up with the cheeseboard, (2.70 supplement) but this was four small pieces of different cheese a few crackers and bits of apple. I eventually managed to attract the attention of the waiter and asked for some more cheese and he just walked off without saying anything! After about 10 minutes he returned saying that this chef was very tight with the portions and I couldn't have any more but they would waive the supplement charge! We waited to be asked for coffee but were just ignored and eventually walked out to the bar at which point we drew some attention and I told the waiter to bring us the bill at the bar and we would take coffee there. There was no waitress at the bar and we waited 10 minutes before a waitress arrived and when I tried to order coffee sneered at me. I asked her what was wrong and she said we should be drinking beer not coffee!! We paid £25 for 2 courses and £28 for a £6 bottle of Sauvingon Blanc and the whole experience was unpleasant and stressful. We had a similar experience at lunch and waited ages for our food and the whole impression was of inadequate levels of staff who could hardly speak English and couldn't have cared less. I must say this did not apply to the Reception staff who were first class. We enquired about breakfast and were told this would be £ 19.50 without pre-booking or £ 15.50 if we pre-booked. We went to a nearby Sainsburys superstore and had an excellent full English for £ 4.90 served quickly and with top quality staff. I have experienced very similar service and extortionate prices at Macdonald Hotels before. By all means stay there but I would advise dining elsewhere.

We checked-out today after a one night stay. The check-in was good and welcoming. Our room was a very good size, with nice extras; robes, fruit, water, coffee pod machine. The room was clean, in a quiet location towards the end of a corridor and well presented, if perhaps a little beige and bland (room 507). We booked a dinner, bed and breakfast package, without knowing the hotel would be bursting with guests from a wedding being held in the function room. In the evening the dining room was quite well occupied, about half full, but the atmosphere and ambience was very lacking. It was rather dated and there was no background music, just a distant base beat coming from the function room disco. The service was very slow, but the food was tasty. However, there was an extra charge for bread and veg, etc. on top of the set menu. When we asked for a jug of water to be left on our table, we were told no, as there were not sufficient jugs due to the function, making us feel like second rate guests. We would usually have ordered a coffee and a drink to follow our meal, but didn't feel inclined to stay any longer than necessary. Next morning the buffet breakfast was overwhelming due to the number of guests. The staff were working very hard to keep the food topped up, but it felt like an old-fashioned holiday camp diner, so we did not hang around. We were also surprised to see a £3 charge for using our credit card - we thought that practice was only relevant to cut price hotels and flights, etc. This was intended as a relaxing couples night away, but didn't feel very chilled. Our conclusion is we would use this hotel again as a quick stop over location, but not for relaxing break.

Booked through SpaSeekers indulgent spa day package. It was my wife's birthday treat. 21st June 2017. On arrival asked in reception for the light lunch upgrade which had been previously agreed with agent. I was then told it wasn't possible unless I had afternoon tea package. After I got changed and not happy with that I asked again so the spa receptionist told me to go to the Sports bar and ask them about it. I asked him (Shawn-Manager) about it and he told me he would have to check that out with his colleague-came back few minutes later and told me I could upgrade to afternoon tea for extra £10 which would include sandwiches but not to light lunch. As I was here to relax I didn't want to be upset with these simple things so walked away and told him to let it be as it was. After speaking with my wife we agreed that we were going to try the inclusive cream tea and maybe share a club sandwich-which we had and thoroughly enjoyed-comps to the chef sent. Dirty ashtrays full of cigarette buts on all the tables so moved this one to the table next to us! Cups were dirty so asked for clean ones,no coffee offered, but served after I asked for it, otherwise only a pot of tea. No prossecco served on arrival, had to ask for it and was told it wasn't inclusive so they had to charge for it. He then served the prossecco just before we finished-no apologies, no enjoy your meals, no thank yous... Did not get my £5 voucher. Treatments were amazing-thanks to Natalie and Robyne. Sauna, steam room and swimming pool a bit smal

We stayed because out flight home was cancelled. Staff were friendly and well organised in spite of having 30 late arrivals. Hotel clean and well presented, just disappointed we could not use pool and spa as we had a very early start next day. Excellent breakfast. Want to come back and use the facilities again under different circumstances?

Choose as a convenient location and used Macdonald hotels before. Very pleasant building and well kept. Booked a classic room and from experience at check-in asked if they had a king-size bedroom in this class and they did. Pool a little dark but fine but not suitable to lounge and read. Dinner really good, breakfast below usual Macdonald standard. Smooth check-out. Would use again. Room a good size, a new housing development being constructed around hotel site, made no difference to our stay.
