We stayed here following a day at the Ageas Bowl. The staff were aware that there was a cricket match on so they got as many rooms ready in the morning as they could so we checked in at 12. We only popped in to say we were leaving our car and to get a number for a cab so checking in was a big bonus. Pleasant and helpful lady on reception. It's a nice hotel. We didn't try the spa but I got the impression it's good. We had dinner in the Winchester Restaurant. It was a good meal, not cheap but again good staff. Not too far to the Ageas.
It might be that MacDonald hotels are all just perfect. Even so, sometimes the team focus is so connected that everything gels. Everything works and minute attention to detail leave you in now hurry to leave. This hotel raises their own benchmark for service. Utterly brilliant with exceptional food and wonderful rooms. We stayed in 403. A bit dated and probably could do with a face lift but spotless with an amazing bed and all is forgiven.
Is a good location but the rooms are starting to look a bit tired , I arrived quite late in evening and after a bit of a journey from reception to room only to discover the room hadn’t been made up that day since last occupant They gave me an upgrade but then discovered a cleaning rag left in the bathroom sink But overall good value for money
Very well maintained and cared for property, Comfortable beds, excellent restaurant I would definitely return. We had Prosecco in the bar and the afternoon tea looked lovely. Staff are efficient and friendly.
My daughter and I did a spa deal which was very good value for money. This was an overnight stay including a full body massage. The spa experience seemed ok although the steam room and sauna were out of action the first day but it didn’t impact on us too much. The massage was excellent, the therapist first class. The hotel room was clean and very functional/and on that basis we would have stayed again until we went down for dinner. I still cannot believe just how bad this was. Over cooked cod grey and rubbery, unattractive presentation, dessert was a pie of some description which was so hard it shot across the table as I tried to cut into it. Breakfast sadly was tasteless, full English frozen hash browns, croissants that tasted less than fresh -I’m still reeling at just how bad this food was. We had a good spa experience and liked the hotel and would go back but not to eat!!!!!
We chose to stay at this hotel during a two day break to Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World on the basis that in the descriptions of the hotels this one appeared to be the most geared up towards children which sadly wasn't really the case. The description mentions kids will have their own check-in with their own room key but in fact its just a colouring kit given as an after thought. The hotel is clearly having to open to a wider customer base at the weekends and although it wasn't very busy during our stay the staff always appeared to be struggling to cope. Room was fine for the price but the food in the restaurant was extortionate for the quality of food. Main issues we had were: 1. The restaurant in the evening had a very limited set of choices. My partner is Vegetarian and she only had one choice. The prices are approximately £23 for one course or a few pounds more for two suggesting something quite special was due to arrive. My starter for example was 4 pound coin sized scallops on a cold bit of bland pork belly. 2. Although children clearly have to be able to eat in the restaurant if packages are being sold to tailor towards them its not ideal at all. We had to ask if there was a childrens menu and then the high chair that we received was caked in dirt and chocolate. Even when I spent 5 minutes cleaning it no one suggested helping. 3. Breakfast the next morning was, again, not too bust but everyone was running around as if the place was at capacity. The hot buffet food may have been tasty but opening up the serving dishes normally revealed empty trays as food was not replenished quickly enough. There is an option to order food from the menu but the kitchen was struggling and the table next to us had finished breakfast when their boiled egg came out after numerous reminders and an hour wait. Overall fine for a business trip mid week if its going on expenses but was the one disappointment of what was a lovely weekend at Paultons Park.
We had a fantastic day at the spa celebrating a friend's 40th birthday. We were very well looked after by all the staff and all agreed that out treatments were amazing! Great value for money, i will definitely return and recommend to family and friends
This is a pretty basic hotel. We didn't have huge exceptions as we pretty much booked it in the morning and arrived in the afternoon as a cheap last minute deal. The staff are friendly enough and the room had what you would imagine. Negatives would be the the pool area, it is very small and was full of children, so not like the relaxing image you get. Any photos seem quite different to what you actually see. Also, there is building works going on around the hotel.
We stayed with friends 29th to 31st October 2017 on a Secret Escapes Package. First impressions on arrival at reception and when in our room suggested we we had chosen well. On the whole it was a good break but it could have been excellent if the staff were more attentive to customer service. Staff at the spa area were more concerned with eating large cooked breakfast at their desk or being on the computer. The new towels were heaped in a corner, not folded. We had a meal the first night as part of our deal. The choice of food and service did not persuade us to eat there a second night. The rooms were big in size with a bath and decent separate shower. Includèd a Nespresso coffee machine and a fridge plus plate of fruit on arrival. Noisy room from water tank filling up continuously so didnt get as mhch sleep as we hoped. Also, limited access to swimming pool/ spa area- enquire zbout times before booking if this is important to you.
Poor stay Ok room Double charged by a trainee at reception Told wrong times for breakfast Trainee on her own with no supervision Took 2 weeks of emails for them to acknowledge the issue. Dreadful customer service. Be warned
