We were enchanted by this idyllic small inn. We had a charming, authentic, second floor room (stairs) that was bright and airy and had great bay views. While it was a bit small, it suited us fine for our first full day and night in Nova Scotia. The room was clean and quiet, and the sleep was great for us. Enjoyed the small restaurant for dinner and breakfast; the seafood on the deck at dinner was great. The staff was down-to-earth, friendly, helpful, and had info on any topic. We hiked in Taylor Head Provincial Park the next day, then fled north as Hurricane Dorian was incoming. With hindsight, from 3 weeks travel in Nova Scotia, this was probably our favorite stay!
our arrival was a little chaotic as they at first said we did not have a reservation but eventually found it then undercharged us but it was sorted ok. the room was comfortable and clean and the bed very good. the breakfast was just about ok nothing special we ate at the restaurant and my wifes seafood pasta was ordinary and not very tasty and i had the wiener schnitzel which strangely seemed deep fried in batter rather than a light coating so was very heavy--not what i expected in a german run place.
Our room was large as was the bathroom. The decor was cabin cosy. The Mermaid Eatery is part of the hotel. You can get seafood and regular as well as the special German selections. Very good. We lucked out and arrived on an evening with live music. Very enjoyable. Breakfast was included and was very good with a selection of cheeses meats and breads as well as cereals fruits etc.
My wife and I really liked this little Inn. It was a great introduction to the province on our first night in Nova Scotia. The room was small but cozy and clean. The food was good and the staff friendly. altogether a very nice atmosphere.
We stayed at the Salmon River Country Inn for four nights during our recent trip to Nova Scotia. As its name implies, the inn is situated by the river (beautiful view) and includes the restaurant downstairs. We didn’t eat there as we usually returned late. We did have the Bavarian beer, which was great! The room was small, clean with the comfortable bed. In addition, our room was overseeing the river. The European breakfast was delicious and plentiful; coffee was always freshly brewed. The host was very friendly, warm, and accommodating. Despite being located on the side of the highway, the area and inn were very quiet at night. We slept very well. I would definitely recommend this place to other vacationers and travelers.
We enjoyed our short stay here. The rooms were on the small side but very comfortable. The Inn is very well cared for and the hostess was friendly, helpful and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. The location was beautiful and sitting outside watching the sun set was a fitting end to a busy day. The breakfast was substantial and just the right start for another busy day.
We were driving north on Hwy 7, were hungry and as we came over a hill we were welcomed with a beautiful view which included the Salmon River Country Inn. We pulled into their parking lot and went in to find a quaint old “halfway” house. It had been an Inn for many years and the halfway meant it was the only Inn roughly halfway between two larger locations. It has a restaurant and rooms for travelers to use while exploring this region Northeast of Dartmouth. This Inn is about 55km / 40min. Northeast of Dartmouth. We used the indoor dining area…there is a nice dining area on a deck overlooking the water. The food was excellent!! The menu had a German flavor to it, was large and had enough items to please any appetite. A few of our party shared a piece of Black Forest Cake…it was moist and really delicious! Our waitress was excellent!! She knew the menu well, was quick to a take care of our needs and very friendly. There are numerous comfortable areas with soft chairs and views, as well as places outside in the shade, also with views, where it would be easy to lose oneself in a book while relaxing. We can certainly recommend your stopping in for a meal when you are in vicinity. Friendly people, relaxing Inn, excellent food and great views!!
Amazing food. The hotel room was very clean. The hotel and restaurant service was excellent. Got there on a Friday night and the live music was wicked good and fun. Breakfast was also very good and the owner asked me what time I wanted breakfast to be ready the night before and even allowed me to pack a lunch. Incredible!
The location on the bank of the Salmon River is wonderful for outdoor dining and sunset-viewing. The large, two-level deck accommodates quite a few folks, and a path beyond it leads to a small gazebo that could be really a great spot with some TLC. The same is true of the Inn’s interior, which is pretty dated (in an uncharming sense). Our room was small but comfortable, with a utilitarian bathroom. The German menu provided a welcome break from the ubiquitous seafood, and we enjoyed our chat with the German owner/chef, both at dinner and at the very generous continental breakfast the next morning. The staff was accommodating and very friendly throughout. In the end, we just kept thinking that the place had great potential but needed work. We were told that there are plans to do some remodeling over the winter, so things may improve soon.
Like all great Inns, there is a restaurant and a pub downstairs and a nice breakfast room. Rusty and Friends were playing their last Friday night gig of the season so the place was mobbed and there was hilarity. So if you are an early to sleeper on Friday nites (huh?), this is not the place to stay. The room was clean, tidy with great views but you should know that Rm#2 is small. There are other rooms down the hall, say Rm#7, that are palatial. This place is run by Germans so alles is in ordnung!
