I booked a room via expedia before starting a 4 hour drive, to arrive late and catch a couple hours sleep before an early morning flight, with my wife and daughter. Upon arriving at 1:30 am, the front desk staff told me that someone had called me and spoken to me and I had agreed to cancel our booking. There wasn't even a missed call on my phone.
The night manager tried to find alternate accommodation for over an hour, while I also called over 20 other hotels in and around Halifax, with no luck in finding another room.
My family sat in the car outside the main entrance with Halifax nightlife wandering the streets around them. Only after about 1.5 hours of me standing in the lobby was another room that was "out of service" mentioned. It was a room with a leaking air conditioning unit, but it had 2 beds. I agreed to take it and it took another 30 minutes to finally get access to the room.
We caught maybe 1.5 hours of sleep before having to depart for the airport. The charges were refunded, but I don't feel that enough compensation for what we had to endure, wondering if my family was going to have to sleep in a car for almost 2 hours before finding out we had an undesirable option, but an option nonetheless.
